The Cave of Swallows , also called Cave of the Swallows (Spanish: Sótano de las Golondrinas), is an open air pit cave in the Municipality of Aquismón, San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
The elliptical mouth, on a slope of karst, is 49 by 62 m wide and is undercut around all its perimeter, further widening to a room approximately 303 by 135 meters wide. The floor of the cave is a 333 meter.

Known as a pit cave, it is a vertical shaft, essentially a 160- to 205-foot gaping hole in the forest floor which drops straight down 1,220 feet – 1,904 from the higher edge – before reaching the cave floor. It is deep enough to fit the Statue of Liberty standing on her own shoulders, the Eiffel tower, or the Chrysler building.
Called the Basement of the Swallows in Spanish and the Cave of Swallows in English, it is the largest known cave shaft in the world and the second deepest pit in Mexico. The cave gets its name from the green parakeets and white-collared swifts that live along its walls. Each day the birds fly in concentric circles up the cave shaft before the flocks come spilling out of the of the hole into the jungle.

The floor of the cave is a 333-meter (1092 ft) freefall drop from the lowest side of the opening, with a 370-meter (1,214 ft) drop from the highest side,[2] making it the largest known cave shaft in the world, the second deepest pit in Mexico and perhaps the 11th deepest in the world.[3]
Dünyadaki En Derin Mağaralardan Biri Cave Of Swallows - Aquismon / Mexico
372 metre ile bilinen en derin mağaralardan biri olmasının yanı sıra diğer bir özelliği de sabah 6 da onbinlerce kuşun dışarı çıkıp, akşam geri gelmesi. Mağarada iki tip kuş türü yaşıyor. Biri yeşil papağanlar diğeri ise siyah kırlangıç gibi kuşlar. Ve bu kuşlar içeriden sırayla girip sırayla çıkıyor. Aynı anda hareket ettikleri pek yok. Çok derin olduğu için kuşlar dipten çıkarken 1-2 dakika yukarıya doğru döne döne yükselmeleri gerekiyor. İçeri girmeleri ise çok daha atraksiyonlu. Son sürat dibe dalıp öyle giriyorlar. O kadar hızlı dalıyorlarki inişleri rüzgar sesi yapıyor. Gördüğüm en fantastik doğa olaylarından biriydi.

Located deep in a Mexican rain forest, nestled high atop a majestic mountain slope, sleeps the eighth wonder of the world, Sótano de las Golandrinas, (Cave of the Swallows), which is a 1,400 foot subterranean cave. Come along on a true adventure that takes you on a journey with world-class BASE jumpers as they investigate this enormous cave. Their ultimate goal is to jump from the cave’s small 160 foot opening and freefall several seconds before opening their parachutes and landing safely on the cave floor. Amazing video captures jumpers from every possible position including belly cams and head cams.
