Historic Maryland: Chesapeake Beach RY Station
The next in our Historic Maryland Series takes us to a turn-of the-(last) century train station of a line build mainly to serve beach goers: the Chesapeake Beach Railway station in the bayside town by the same name.
The line operated from June 1900 till tax day 1935. It ran from Washington DC to this point with numerous stops along the way, but the only mandatory stop was Upper Marlboro MD. The rest were flag stops; trains only stopped when ticketed passengers requested. Folks from Baltimore reached here either by taking PRR (either NEC to DC or the Pope's Creek line to Upper Marlboro) trains then transferring to the CBRY, or by bay steamer to a mile-long pier east of the station.
The railroad was knocked out by-you guessed it-the automobile and improved roads, mainly US 50 and 301. Many MD resorts had railroads that abandoned in the 1930s, the most famous of which being Ocean City.
Most of the line's right-of-way is still intact, oddly enough. Portions were converted to a bike trail, and part of MD 260 sits right on the ROW.
Touring this station is definitely a learning experience, as you'll find out. Yer' bullfrog even learned a few things! And it's fun.
A BIG Thanx to the couple who showed us around-and didn't mind appearing in the video! I regret not having gotten their names.
These are the kinds of videos I really enjoy making, and bringing to my viewers. I love interviewing people, and having them explain the goings on. To me, the human aspect really adds to the experience. I hope my viewers enjoy watching as much as I enjoyed making!

Chesapeake Beach - Maryland
Décimo oitavo vídeo do canal, fomos conhecer a praia de água doce, chamada Chesapeake Beach.

Chesapeake Treasure - Railway Company Map
This week on #ChesapeakeTreasure we're taking a closer look at our Exploring the Chesapeake: Mapping the Bay exhibition! Join us as CBMM's Chief Curator Pete Lesher explores D.P Barnett's map showing an extensive number of steamboat routes leaving Baltimore for rural wharves along the Bay's winding tributaries. The routes shown were owned by the Baltimore, Chesapeake and Atlantic Railway Company and the Maryland, Delaware and Virginia Railway Company.
Keep watching for more interesting stuff and stories on our Facebook page, and let us know what you think in the comments section!

The beach resort town of Ocean City along the Atlantic Ocean is a popular tourist destination in Maryland
See also: List of National Historic Landmarks in Maryland
Tourism is popular in Maryland, with tourists visiting the city of Baltimore, the beaches of the Eastern Shore, and the nature of western Maryland, as well as many passing through en route to Washington, D.C. Baltimore attractions include the Harborplace, the Baltimore Aquarium, Fort McHenry, as well as the Camden Yards baseball stadium. Ocean City on the Atlantic Coast has been a popular beach destination in summer, particularly since the Chesapeake Bay Bridge was built in 1952 connecting the Eastern Shore to the more populated Maryland cities.[80] The state capital of Annapolis offers sites such as the state capitol building, the historic district, and the waterfront. Maryland also has several sites of interest to military history, given Maryland's role in the American Civil War and in the War of 1812. Other attractions include the historic and picturesque towns along the Chesapeake Bay, such as Saint Mary's, Maryland's first colonial settlement and original capital.[143]

Time-Lapse of Traditional Marine Railway Restoration Project, Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum
The Traditional Marine Railway Restoration Project was completed on August 11, 2014 at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Maryland. Funding and installation was provided by Chesapeake Shipbuilding with matching funds from the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority Grant Program.
After years of hard service, the metal carriages on CBMM's marine railway needed to be replaced. The carriages haul historic wooden vessels out of the water to be maintained and preserved by Museum shipwrights and apprentices.
For more information about CBMM, visit cbmm.org or call 410-745-2916.
