***Folks watching this: Release the Lake Trout you catch over 18. Fish over 30 can be over 25 years old!!! Let the Trophies swim***
On January 11th, 2014 me, Clint, and Darv headed west to target some Lakers. We spent most of the day marking fish in deep water but we couldn't get them to commit. After a few hours of this behavior something changed - all of these lookers turned into biters. We wound up catching 30+ in an hour or two. The highlight was definitely when Clint pulled up a 9lb Lake Trout and then on the very next drop hooked up with a 36 17.25lb Laker.
2 Trophy Fish in 24 Hours Ice Fishing in Colorado
Tried a new lake after work one day to fish for Perch and Walleye and was surprised by a trophy catfish biting my jig. I caught a small Walleye on a 1/16th oz Dinner Bell spoon a little later. I decided to come back the next day and got my jumbo Perch that I was after.

Ice Fishing Wolford Mountain Reservoir
We venture out to a known kokanee and Pike lake and tried to fish for some, unfortunately we couldn't locate either, but the Rainbow Trout were plentiful. Still a very fun day on the ice catching fish.

Colorado State Record Tiger Trout
Fly Fishing for Tiger Trout- We were recently asked by our good friend David Macumber to take a trip to what some refer to as the Disneyland of Big fish. Our number one goal was to find out more about fish genetics, how water can be captured/ distributed, and fisheries can be managed more effectively. We were really wanting to see what others have done to create habitat and capture water. We made the leap not knowing what to expect with really overcast conditions and a very high probability of precipitation. The morning was good but cloudy and we saw some light rain. When the sun started shining the big fish went crazy. Little did we know that Guide Nick Oliver would not only land a fish of a lifetime, but he'd also be holding what could have easily been the Colorado State Record for Tiger Trout. As many of you know Tiger Trout are mostly genetically engineered fish often only found in Private waters in the State of Colorado so just catching one can prove to be tough venture. Hooking and landing one this big well it goes without saying. Congrats Nick! Here's a little video of that trip and that 29 x 20 Tiger trout (which put it in the 13- 15 lb range.)

Ice Fishing Beaver Creek Reservoir with Dad, South Fork Colorado
Hello everyone,
In this video I visit my Dad and we fish at Beaver Creek Reservoir, near South Fork Colorado.
My Dad lives in Southern Colorado, and over ten years ago he took me ice fishing at Beaver Creek Reservoir. We had a tough time then, but I have more experience now and everything just seemed perfect. We caught a bunch of really nice rainbow trout and one brown trout. All the fish we kept were 12 inches or over. I tried a “Dick Nite Spoon” and it worked really well, but it was hard to set the single hook and I lost quite a few fish. I also broke my line lifting a fish out of the hole, so I learned the limitations of my ultralight setup.
Overall I am extremely impressed with the ice fishing at Beaver Creek Reservoir. It is one of the most convenient lakes for fishing in the San Luis Valley, within an hour from Alamosa. Supposedly the reservoir was completely drained a few years ago, so I don't know if there are any monster trout in there, but the quantity of 12-14 trout was very good.
Thanks for watching and please subscribe if you are interested to see my progress in the “Colorado Master Angler Challenge”
Thanks,
C.J.
