Comic Strip walk in Brussels
The Brussels' Comic strip walk, is a path composed by several comic strip murals which deck the walls of several buildings throughout the inner City of Brussels as well as the neighborhoods of Laeken and Auderghem. The large comic strip murals show motifs of the most famous and popular Belgian comics, for instance The Adventures of Tintin, Lucky Luke, Gaston, Marsupilami and Gil Jourdan.
Comic strip walk, traveling around Brussels.
We are off to Brussels. This is one of the cities on our trip that Emma has not been to , but neither had I.
There was a lot that we didn't know about this city so it was going to be a fun time trying to work it all out. We only booked in for two days there but after spending just a day we realised that we needed longer.
It was so fun and there was so much to see and do we could have spent a few more days there. I think we will have to go back.
Thanks for watching.

19. SOUNDBITE (English), Tin Antony, spokesperson of the Belgian Comic Strip Centre :
Thanks to Herge and Tintin, there is a whole tradition of comic strips artists. We were the first to have a comic strip academy, here in Brussels, Saint Luc, out of which came a lot of famous artists. We have a large network of publishers, and that is why we still have the highest density of comic strip authors in the world. They are about 650 comic strip authors in Belgium
20. Various Tintin's Mural
21. SOUNDBITE (English), Tin Antony, spokesperson of the Belgian Comic Strip Centre :
The idea was to re-promote some of the remote neighbourhoods that were a bit forlorn, a little bit poor, less popular with the touristical public (tourists), so that's why the city started looking for some blank walls to put up these murals.

It is all the Belgian spirit that is there (in the murals). On one hand we put some colour in the city with those comic strip murals, we remind the inhabitants of their heritage, and on the other hand we let the tourists discover some other neighbourhoods.

Comic Strip in Brussels
Brussels is where Tintin, Spirou and the Smurfs grew up, and they now pervade the city. They are everywhere: on walls, building façades and museums. They are exhibited and sold in galleries and boutiques. They decorate restaurants and hotel rooms. They are celebrated and paraded in the streets. Comic book speech bubbles are on every corner. Blistering barnacles!

BALLOONS DAY PARADE 2019 ( Place des Palais ) Brussels - Fete / Folklore
Balloons Day Parade: A unique parade in Europe
The Balloons’ Day Parade, taking place during the Comic Strip Festival, will run for the 17th consecutive year across the major Brussels streets on September 15, 2019. Composed of famous characters of Belgian comic strip and rhythmed by Belgian fanfares, the Balloons’ Day Parade will have the pleasure to make discover to young and old its gargantuesque balloons.
Sunday, September 15, during 1 hour and 30 minutes, a parade of giant balloons in the form of comic characters, will cross the city center of the capital. The aim of the Balloons’ Day Parade and the Comic Strip Festival is to immerse fans and enthusiasts in the fantastic world of Belgian comics.
This year it is not one but two new balloons that will integrate the parade, Toto, the most famous kid for classic jokes of French culture and Dooly the Little Dinosaur. It is also with pleasure that the penguins of Madagascar will make their comeback for this 2019 edition.
The impressive inflating balloon show will start around 10:00 am on the Place des Palais where more than 200 volunteers will be needed to give life to these giants. Most of the balloons will cross the Atlantic to participate at this event. From 15:00, Billy, Spirou, Tintin, The Cat and their new friends will walk in the city center to finally return to the Place des Palais around 16:30.
This year, the parade will welcome new fanfares from all over Belgium, the fanfares are placed between the balloons to give a rhythm and animate the parade.
The comic strip lovers will also find satisfaction in the Royal Park in the Comic Strip Village where new and used comic books will be put on sale by publishers and booksellers. More than hundred authors will give signing sessions and there are many other surprises and animations during three days.
