Covered Bridge in Lovech | A Romantic Hideway in Bulgaria
The Covered Bridge in the town of Lovech, Bulgaria. The name comes from an old Bulgarian word meaning River City. The bridge crosses the Osam River, connecting the old Varosha and new town parts of Lovech, being possibly the most recognisable symbol of the town. After the bridge that then served the town was almost completely destroyed by a flood in 1872, the local police chief ordered the famous Bulgarian master builder Kolyu Ficheto to construct a new one. Ficheto personally chose the material for the wooden bridge. Each citizen of Lovech contributed to the building process, the poorer ones working themselves and the wealthier donating money and paying other workers. Building completed in 1874.
The initial bridge had a length of 84 m and 6 vents and accommodated 64 shops. It was, however, wholly destroyed by fire on the night of 2 to 3 August 1925. A more modern bridge was constructed at its place in 1931 only to be replaced by a reconstruction of Kolyu Ficheto's design in 1981-1982. The current bridge is 106 m long and has 14 shops, the architect being Zlatev. The covered bridge is a popular place among tourists, and souvenirs from Lovech can be bought from its shops. The bridge above the Osam river is also the only covered bridge on the Balkan Peninsula. In terms of natural landmarks Lovech has to offer much as well.

Lovech is a town located in northwestern Bulgaria.
Lovech consists of two parts, old and new part. Osam River divides the old and new part of the town. Covered Bridge, which was built by Kolyu Ficheto connects the old and the new town of Lovech. Lovech covered bridge is the most famous sight in the City.
In Lovech also there is museum of Vasil Levski, Lovech ethnographic museum and fortress called Hisar.
The town has a long history leading back to the time of the Thracians. Their mark here left Romans, Byzantines, Bulgarians and Turks.

Roadtrip to Lovech, Bulgaria with my friend from Holland
My best friend from the Netherlands came to visit. We took the car to Lovech and did some exploring. Although the weather was misty, we saw a lot and enjoyed our adventure.
Lovech - a town with traditions! / Ловеч - град с традиции!
Lovech is a city in north-central Bulgaria, located about 150 kilometres northeast from the capital city of Sofia. The city is situated on the both sides of the Osam river. The main points of interest in Lovech are:
- The Covered Bridge;
- The monument of Vasil Levski
- The monuments to Russian soldiers killed in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78
- The Varosha old town part
- Stratesh Park with Lovech Zoo, the biggest zoo in the province
- The Varosha architectural and historical reserve.
During the Christianity feast Tsvetnitsa (The Palm Sunday in English) a large number of craftsmen and artificers are coming to the city. It's a tradition from many years ago. Also, during this feast, there are many celebrations in the city with the participation of dance ensembles and singers who perform traditional Bulgarian folk dances and songs. Because of this I recommend to visit the city during Tsvetnitsa feast. But if you don't prefer the big crowds and the noisy celebrations, don't worry the city will always be open for newcomers.

Ловеч е град в централната част на северна България, разположен на около 150 км североизточно от столицата София. Градът е разположен от двете страни на река Осъм. Основните забележителности в Ловеч, които заслужава да бъдат посетени са:
- Покрития мост;
- Паметникът на Васил Левски;
- Паметниците на руските войници, убити в Руско-турската война от 1877-78;
- Старинният квартал Вароша;
- Парк Стратеш със зоологическата градина Ловеч, най-големият зоопарк в областта;
- Архитектурен и исторически резерват Вароша.
По време на християнския празник Цветница в града идват голям брой занаятчии и майстори. Това е традиция за Ловеч от много години. Освен тях, града събира и множество танцови ансамбли и певци, които изпълняват традиционни български народни танци и песни. Ето защо силно препоръчвам да посетите града по време на Цветница, не само защото в разгара на пролетта люляковия град е изключително красив, ами и за да може да погледате и послушате, а защо не и да опитате някои типично български обичаи. Все пак, ако не сте привърженици на големите тълпи и шумните тържества, не се притеснявайте, градът винаги ще бъде отворен за неговите гости и е достатъчно красив по всяко друго време на годината.

Loveshka fortress located in the old quarter of Lovech Varosha. The fortress has a very good location and in ancient times it was virtually impregnable.
The first fortress was built in the ninth century of A.D. It was part of the Bulgarian fortifications.
The town of Lovech was located between fortress Lovech and the river Osam. And in the fortress was a military garrison.
In case of attack, residents were hiding in the fortress.
The Lovech Fortress at night is very nicely illuminated.
In Lovech can also see The Covered Bridge of Lovech, the Ethnographic Museum and the Museum of Vasil Levski.

Loveshka Festung ist in der Altstadt von Lovech Varosha entfernt. Es war Teil der bulgarischen Befestigungen.Die Stadt Lovech wurde zwischen Festung Lovech und dem Fluss Osam entfernt. Und in der Festung war eine militärische Besatzung.Im Falle eines Angriffs wurden versteckt Bewohner in der Festung.Die Lovech Festung in der Nacht ist sehr schön beleuchtet.In Lovech können auch die überdachte Brücke von Lovech, das ethnographische Museum und das Museum der Vasil Levski sehen.
