The Plymouth Morris Men outside Prince Maurice Dearist Dickie
On Wednesday 21st May the Plymouth Morris Men with their guests The Cornish Wreckers and the New Plymouth team Old Town Twelves danced at the Prince Maurice pub in Egbuckland. one of the dances we performed was one of the Cotswold dances, Dearest Dickie from Feildtown. Afterwards we had a Music and song session inside.
A discussion between some of our members and a younger member of the public touched on the subject of getting younger members of the public, i.e. 16 to 30 + years old involved with our traditional English Dance. It was suggested that may be they, the younger ones, might like to adapt some of their dance steps and music to traditional Morris style.
It was pointed out that there are Steam Punk Morris sides and that the students at Callington Community College, they do 'Street' and have already adapted a May Pole dance, are considering giving it a try. Any one out there want to take up the challenge, not only in Plymouth but elsewhere?
