Trondheim, Norway City Guide! Complete firsthand travel guide - everything you need to see!
Norway is an incredible country filled with natural beauty at every turn. But for most visitors, they stay further south in some of the well-known places like Oslo. Today I'll tell you about a fantastic city located up in Central Norway - Trondheim. It may not be as big as some of the other cities, but it has a lot packed in!
It's downtown area is nearly surrounded by water, with Trondheim Fjord on one side and the Nidelva River snaking around the other sides. You can see some amazing tourist sites like Nidaros Cathedral (and it's central tower), the Archbishop's Palace (and it's museum), the Norwegian Crown Regalia, Stiftsgården (Trondheim Royal Palace), the Church of Our Lady, Kristiansten Fortress, the Old Town Bridge (Gamle Bybro), the Gate of Happiness, the Historic Wharves, Bakklandet, Nordre Gate, the King Olav Tryggvason statue, and more! There are also so many fantastic ways to experience the natural beauty, like taking a boat tour in the fjord or taking a hike along Lade trail. And guess what? Because it is so far north, in summer it almost never gets fully dark! So much great stuff to do, and even some great traditional Central Norwegian foods, like Sodd.
Check out this video to learn about all of the great things I saw and did in beautiful Trondheim, Norway!

The Queen is reunited with St Edward's Crown for the first time since her Coronation 65 years ago
Sixty five years ago, it was placed on the head of a 27-year-old Princess Elizabeth, signalling the moment she became Queen. Now, for the first time since her Coronation in 1953, Her Majesty has been reunited with the glittering – but little seen – St Edward’s Crown.

The World's Most Valuable Crown Jewels
Austria
The Austrian crown jewels, pictured above, consist of royal robes, holy relics, crosses, rings, swords, orbs, sceptres and this crown. These date back to the 10th century and were worn by the Holy Roman Emperor and the Austrian Emperor. They are kept at the Imperial Treasury at Schatzkammer and are estimated to be worth over £12 million.
Denmark
The elegant Danish crown jewels include an ampulla, or flask, sword of state, orb and sceptre and three crowns. Danes refer to the crown jewels in terms of new regalia and old regalia to distinguish between the gems that existed before and after the creation of absolute monarchy in the year 1660. The oldest item in the set is the sword, which dates back to 1551.
Czech Republic
The crown jewels of the Czech Republic, seen above being inspected by Prince Charles, comprise St. Wenceslas' sword, a gold reliquary cross, coronation vestments of the Bohemian kings, a sceptre, a royal orb and the Crown of Saint Wenceslas. From the Norwegian Royal Collection: Queen Maud's small paradise (1/10)
Little treasures and unique objects from the magazines that are kept on the Royal Palace in Oslo are the things that we see in this series. From the needle bag full of jewels Crown Princess Märtha always carried in the United States during the Second world war to rare watercolor paintings of the romantic haven Appleton House in England that Queen Maud called her own paradise. We also get to see King Olaf's very first Christmas gift and hear about the royal wooden skis and sleds. In addition, we get glimpses from Queen Maud's private photo albums. The series consists of 10 parts.
On a small paradise.
Queen Maud's own sketchbooks, materials, and watercolors from the time when she was a young princess of Wales is still in good conditions in The royal collection at the Royal Palace in Oslo. Photography became a new hobby that took over paintings, but many of the subjects are still the same as in her watercolors: Flowers, dogs, and horses on the beautiful Appleton House in England. The site was a wedding gift to Princess Maud and Prince Carl when they got married in 1896, and it was there where the future king Olav was born. We get to see many photos from Queen Maud's album and some of the watercolors she painted. We also get some excerpts from the letter in which Queen Maud tells about how happy she was at Appleton, in her own little paradise.
