The Salvador Dalí Museum is an art museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, United States, dedicated to the work of Salvador Dalí. It houses the largest collection of Dalí's works outside Europe. It is located on the downtown St. Petersburg waterfront by 5th Avenue Southeast, Bay Shore Drive, and Dan Wheldon Way. On April 18, 2012, the AIA's Florida Chapter placed the building on its list of Florida Architecture: 100 Years. 100 PlacesShortly before marrying in 1942, A. Reynolds Morse & Eleanor R. Morse attended a Dalí retrospective at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Intrigued by the artist's subject matter, and impressed by his draftsmanship, they bought their first painting a year later. The purchase began a 40-year relationship as patrons and friends of Dalí that resulted in a comprehensive collection of original Dalí work.
Until 1971, the Morses displayed their collection in their Cleveland, Ohio, home. When they loaned over 200 pieces to a Dalí retrospective in 1965, they realized that 25 years of collecting produced a mini-retrospective that needed a permanent home.
In March 1971, with Dalí presiding over the opening, the Morses opened a museum adjacent to their office building in Beachwood, Ohio.[2] By the end of the decade with an overwhelming number of visitors, the Morses decided to again move their collection, More Info

It’s one of the most significant collections.
Do you know that Dali was born in 1904 in Figuere Spain.
1926 first trip to Paris, he meets Picasso
1929 Second trip to Paris, he meets André Breton and his future wife Gala;
1938 he meets Freud in London
1940 he escapes from Europe and seek refuge in United States
1982 This museum opened in St Petersburg Florida
1989 Dali Dies of heart failure in Spain

N°6 Eggs on the plate without the plate 1932
In this painting the unusual still life object pulls the viewer’s eye to the unnaturally glowing sky.
Dali made also an unexpected homage to his beloved Gala. He chose to depict the two egg yolks on the plate with a passion that suggested two staring eyes.
N°5 Portrait of My sister 1923
First he painted, his 15 years old sister Ana Maria in a realistic style. Then later Dali added the second upside down figure in a style radically different from the first giving the whole composition the appearance of a playing card.
Another interpretation of the over-painting is that it reveals the tension growing between the artist and his sister.
N°4 The Weaning of Furniture Nutrition, 1934
This is one of most successful surrealist works.
With precise realism inspired by one of his greatest influences, the Dutch artist Jan Vermeer, Dali creates a painting that looks like a hand-tinted photograph of something impossible.

Dali gave the following description: The absence of a beloved person leaves a sentimental void in us.
N°3 The disintegration of the persistence of Memory 1952
This painting features one of Dali’s most popular images: The Melting Watch.
In 1931 Dali painted his first melting watch.
He said he was inspired one hot day while working in his studio.
To Dali, the oozing cheese resembled a melting watch, so immediately he painted 3 melting watches.
N°2 Archeological Reminiscence of Millet's Angelus, 1933
WhenDali was young, Jean Francois Millet’s painting, the angelus was one of the most popular images in the world.
Dali wrote that this daydreaming began when he was in elementary school. Where The Angleus hung on the wall. He stared at the couple, iventing stories about them
I surrendered myself to a brief fantasy during which I imagined sculptures of the two figures in Millet’s angelus carved out of the highest rocks.
In the museum, there are a 3D room, where you can wear glasses and travel inside this paintng.
It’s absolutely great.

Dali's paintings Gala Contemplating the Mediterranean Sea which at a distance of 20 meters is transformed into the portrait of Abraham Lincoln
Dali said: this double image painting provides a meditation on the dual nature of things.
