Mississippi Delta: Blues Trail road trip
Louisiana may be the birthplace of Jazz, but Mississippi Delta, is where the Blues were born! Music, comfort food and southern hospitality run deep in the Delta. My journey followed Highway 61, which is also known as the “Blues Trail.” One could argue that Highway 61 rivals Route 66, certainly for its musical significance.
I found the Mississippi Delta to exude charm and hospitality, while its music permeated my soul and found a place in my heart.

Riding The Delta Blues - Part Two - Natchez north to Clarksdale, Ms
Photographs taken on an 11 Day, 3000 Mile, 10 State Motorcycle Tour of the Delta Blues Trail and Mississippi River from Natchez to Cairo, Il. at the confluence of the Miss. and Ohio rivers. The trip started and end just south of Washington DC and included parts of the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains. This part is from Natchez north along the river and into Clarksdale Ms. which I discovered after finding it that it is known as the Crossroads of the Delta Blues and birth place of such greats as Ike Turner and where Robert Johnson sold his soul to the Devil to play the Blues.

'Nowhere on Earth is more American than the Mississippi delta', according to journalist and author Richard Grant, which is why he decided to make it his home. In search of the spirit of the Deep South, he takes us on a road trip exploring the eccentricities of the region, from the lobby of the famous Peabody Hotel in Memphis to the crossroads in Clarksdale, where legendary guitarist Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil. On the way he takes in a gospel service and blues session on a porch, and meets a Chinese store owner with a deep Mississippi drawl.

Clarksdale: Looking For Change
This is Clarksdale, Mississippi, also known as the “Birthplace of the Blues,” a place where renowned artists, musicians and writers call their home and inspiration. Despite the vibrant culture, approximately half of Clarksdale households live outside the financial mainstream*, meaning they don’t have a bank account to manage their money and instead often rely on alternative financial services, such as check cashers or payday lenders.

Clarksdale, Mississippi - Around Town with Shout to Australia
CLARKSDALE, It Is What It Is and The Sun Never Sets On Cool. See this unique place through the eyes of legend Charlie Musselwhite.
This is a documentary about Clarksdale, Mississippi, heart of the Mississippi Delta and home of the birthplace of the blues. This video compilation was done for John Henshall of Essential Economics in Melbourne, Australia. John loves our town and we love John.
A big thank you to our dear friends Charlie and Henrietta Musselwhite and Charles Evans for letting us follow them around their beloved Clarksdale on November 2, 2015.
We especially appreciate our very good friend Red Paden for all he does to keep the blues alive in Clarksdale. He and Mayor Luckett are an integral part of our blues music scene along with many, many others....too many to mention. We are grateful to our local friends who tolerate us and allow us to film and photograph in their establishments and while they perform.
We consider ourselves very blessed to be natives of Clarksdale. We hope you will come visit soon. If you do, please give Magical Madge and Poor William a shout. Visit for more information. AND BY ALL MEANS, TAKE A DELTA BOHEMIAN TOUR WITH POOR WILLIAM.
Need a place to stay during your visit to Clarksdale? Check out the DELTA BOHEMIAN GUEST HOUSE or the CLARK HOUSE
