Exploring Domain of the Caves of Han - Han-Sur-Lesse, Rochefort - Visit Belgium #29/589
I accepted the challenge to visit all 589 Belgian municipalities.
In this video I visit Han-Sur-Lesse, part of the municipality of Rochefort.
We spent the day at the Domain of the Caves of Han. You can easily spend a whole day here because there is so much to see.
We started the day with a 5km walk in the Wildlife Park (you can also take the safaritrain).
After our walk we visited the caves, in my opinion the most beautiful caves I have seen in my life.

I took scenery train there, and had to choose between German and French group, so i didn´t understand anything, thats why i dragged far from others and explored on my own. Tour took little under 3 hours.

About Atomium:
The Atomium ( /əˈtoʊmiːəm/ ə-TOH-mee-əm) is a building in Brussels originally constructed for Expo 58, the 1958 Brussels World's Fair. Designed by the engineer André Waterkeyn and architects André and Jean Polak, it stands 102 m (335 ft) tall. It's nine 18 m (60 ft) diameter stainless steel clad spheres are connected so that the whole forms the shape of a unit cell of an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times. It is now a museum.
Tubes of 3 m (10 ft) diameter connect the spheres along the 12 edges of the cube and all eight vertices to the center. They enclose stairs, escalators and a lift (in the central, vertical tube) to allow access to the five habitable spheres which contain exhibit halls and other public spaces. The top sphere includes a restaurant which has a panoramic view of Brussels. In 2013 CNN named it Europe's most bizarre building.
In the 1950s, faith in scientific progress was great, and a structure depicting atoms was chosen to embody this. The Atomium depicts nine iron atoms in the shape of the body-centered cubic unit cell of an iron crystal, magnified 165 billion times.
Though the Atomium depicts an iron unit cell, the balls were originally clad with aluminum. Following the 2004-2007 renovations, however, the aluminum was replaced with stainless steel, which is primarily iron. Likewise, while the subject of Atomium was chosen to depict the enthusiasm of the Atomic Age, iron is not and cannot be used as fuel in nuclear reactions.
About the cave:
The Caves of Han-sur-Lesse (in French: Grottes de Han-sur-Lesse or simply Grottes de Han) is a major Belgian tourist attraction (around half a million visitors per year) located on the outskirts of the village of Han-sur-Lesse.
The caves are the result of the underground erosion of a limestone hill by the river Lesse. For most of its length, it is a meandering river. Not far from Han-sur-Lesse, it abruptly plunges into a sinkhole known as the gouffre de Belvaux (English: Belvaux abyss), forcing its way under the hill over a distance of over 1 kilometer (1⁄2 mi) as the crow flies before streaming through the cave complex known as the Grottes de Han.
The caves have a constant temperature of 13 °C (55 °F) and a high level of humidity. The largest room in the complex is called La Salle du Dôme (English: the Hall of the Dome); it is 150 meters (490 ft) across with a vaulted ceiling that reaches 127 meters (417 ft).
Although modern exploration of the complex began in 1771, the cave has been known to locals for much longer. Bronze Age relics have been found inside, indicating use from at least the 5th century BC.
Access is only possible via a vintage streetcar, a remnant of the country's once extensive vicinal tramway system, which departs from the center of Han-sur-Lesse. The entry to the caves is about 2 km (1 1⁄4 mi) from the village. The guided tour takes about an hour to an hour and a half and includes a sound and light show in one of the largest chambers of the cave and an ending with a simulated cannon shot to demonstrate the cave's acoustic properties. Visitors exit the cave by way of a short boat ride at the point where the Lesse emerges on the surface. This has been replaced by a bridge.

[Géologie UNamur] Essai de traçage dans les Grottes de Han-sur-Lesse
Réalisation d'un essai de traçage par le département de Géologie de l'Université de Namur. L'objectif est d'étudier le déplacement de l'eau au travers du massif karstique des Grottes de Han. L'utilisation de plusieurs fluorimètres permettra de préciser la dispersion du traceur sur une section de la rivière. Le traceur a été injecté dans le Gouffre Belvaux et est mesuré peu avant la résurgence du Trou de Han.
