The former Dun Cow at Stretton on Dunsmore - destroyed by fire in 2011
From ourwarwickshire.org.uk:
The Dun Cow was a coaching inn on the London to Holyhead Road, now the A45. It was first recorded in 1731 at Knightlow Hill (near the Knightlow Cross where the Wroth Silver ceremony is held). In the 19th century it moved along the A45 to the current site opposite School Lane in Stretton on Dunsmore. For many years this inn was the site of local inquests and the annual Wroth Silver breakfast.
In the 1930s a new Dun Cow was built alongside the old one and the old building then demolished. The new Dun Cow later became a restaurant (Stretton Place) and a club (Oasis, then Crazy Daisy’s) and finally a Chinese restaurant called Goji with plastic palm trees and a Roman chariot outside – presumably because of the Fosse Way nearby.
Sadly the restaurant failed, was vandalised and set on fire in 2011. The ruin has stood for some years but there is now an application to build on the site so it may soon disappear completely.

2ND HEADLESS SEAL found on the Same Beach in a Week! Satanic sacrifice?! (Odd prints nearby!!)
On Sept. 3, 2016 at low tide around noon, I came upon this mutilated seal with its head surgically removed, an unusual hole under one of its flippers, its anus cored out and strange ‘clawed’ prints next to it in the sand (as well as a set of strange bites or claw marks in the carcass).
I learned that this is the SECOND exact same seal mutilation at the same beach within a week and the Canadian Ministry of Fisheries and Oceans is currently investigating groups of mutilated seals and sea lions in the area dating back to 2012. To date, WORLDWIDE, authorities don't have a single shred of evidence nor a single suspect or even a plausible theory of who or what is responsible for these many thousands of mysterious mutilations.
Link to the video of a headless and mutilated bird I discovered on December 22, 2016 @ 7:30 am:

International Guitar Duo Slide 'n' Pickit Rock & Blues Showcase
International Guitar Duo Slide 'n' Pickit
Available for European and International Engagements
'Slide 'n' Pickit' are an outstanding International Guitar Duo with a difference, consisting of:
Dave 'Music Man' Ward and Chris 'Slide Guitar' Watkins
Dave 'Music Man' Ward
South African Dave Ward has, over the past 30 years performed all over the world and has supported Artistes such as Percy Sledge in South Africa and toured America with Alexbo. He has also played in Singapore, Australia and extensively throughout the UK. He has vast experience of entertaining in Hotels such as Holiday Inns, Southern Sun, Hyatt, Sun City Casino Lounges and many other prestigious establishments.
In 1998 Dave Ward relocated to England. A chance meeting with Chris Watkins at a show led to an immediate friendship. Dave was fascinated by Chris's exceptional slide guitar playing skills and Chris was intrigued by this colourful character from South Africa with a passion for music.
A short while later, International Guitar Duo 'Slide 'n' Pickit was born!
Chris, has a very keen sense of humour and is fascinated with Dave's South African ancestry. He never misses an opportunity to try and imitate Dave's accent and try to be 'South African' at shows with hilarious consequences. Although Dave and Chris do include a little gentle ad lib type humour in their act they do take their musical performance very seriously indeed.
The chemistry of the friendship, mutual respect and superb guitar playing skills as well as the humorous banter and passion for the performance is apparent during every Slide 'n' Pickit show.
Chris Watkins Slide - Guitar
Top English slide guitar player Chris Watkins musical skills come from a passion for playing slide guitar in both electric and acoustic settings extremely inventively and with great skill.
He has performed throughout the UK and USA developing his style playing in Blues Clubs and Roots Music venues most notably in John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom Bar in San Francisco. Since beginning his slide guitar journey, Chris has played at many Blues festivals including Colne (UK) and Darlington (UK). He has played several times at the annual CAMRA real ale festival and has supported such well known professional folk players as The John Wright Band, Maurice Dixon and Kieron Halpin. He has performed at The Studio Hartlepool and The Ropery Sunderland. He has even been seen on the streets of Edinburgh (during the world famous Festival) busking! In 2001 Chris attended Blues week at Exeter University and met many slide players and other Blues artistes. He was delighted to receive their approval, which included that of Britains number one acoustic slide player Michael Messer and the European Blues Associations Michael Roach.
Since meeting Dave Ward, Chris has adapted his slide guitar playing to cover virtually any genre of music whether it originally includes slide guitar or not. He has invested heavily in instruments including National resonator guitars, Fender guitars, a Duesenberg lap steel and a Carter pro pedal steel (he also plays harmonica!).
All in all Chris is only truly happy doing what he loves most.........Playing Slide Guitar!

State Video: The Futureheads – The Old Dun Cow
September 2012 saw The Futureheads bring their acapella and acoustic tour to Dublin and, as such, State took the opportunity to put them in a room with Andrew Jordan and his video camera. The result is a spirited version of ‘Old Dun Cow’, a traditional folk song from their native North East England and a highlight of their 'Rant' album.
Thanks to The Futureheads and Andrew.
