Debra Rushfeldt - Solo Art Exhibition
Visit our Website
Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is very pleased to announce that Debra Rushfeldt has been selected as one of the four artists of the gallery’s fifth “Solo Art Series” Art Competition. Debra will now have a month long solo art exhibition and she will be featured on the gallery’s front page, in the Gallery’s YouTube Channel, as well as in the “Solo Art Series” archive.
Debra Rushfeldt lives in British Columbia, Canada, where she is an award-winning assemblage artist. Debra will be promoted by the gallery with an extensive public relations campaign, as well through the gallery’s broad social media network. In addition, she will be featured on the gallery’s YouTube channel and with an event postcard.
The “Solo Art Series” is a series of monthly solo art exhibitions for established artists who have a body of work to present to the public. Artist participants were asked to submit the following 3 components for the “Solo Art Series” competition; 1. Their art. 2. Their artist biography. 3. Their artist statement. These elements were evaluated and judged, which resulted in the selection of the artists who will be featured in individual month long solo art exhibitions. This is the fifth “Solo Art Series” Art Competition the gallery has conducted.
Below is Debra’s Artist Biography, her Artist Statement, along with 25 pieces of her art. We hope that you will take the time to read Debra’s information and to take a look at her fascinating assemblage art.
Artist Biography:
Debra Rushfeldt is a Calgary born artist who received her art education at the Alberta College of Art and Design, and Banff Center, as well as summer studies with Parson's School of Art and Design in Japan.
She has been exhibiting locally and nationally, teaching mixed media assemblage workshops, and volunteering with art organizations since the 1980's.
In 2010 Debra was granted a Major Project Award from Columbia Basin Trust to develop a series of artworks that would highlight life in the West Kootenays, B.C. thus beginning her interest in drawing with charcoal.
Debra's mixed media assemblage work is subjective and informed by her found object collection and her attraction to rich and sensual surfaces. Her realism based charcoal drawings are inspired by her emotional connection to her surroundings.
All her painted and drawn artworks are linked by an interest in the found object, and she strives to transform the ordinary and discarded into images that speak to the viewer. She is represented in numerous private and corporate collections throughout Canada.
Currently, she resides in the small mountain village of Nakusp B.C. where she owns and operates Debra Rushfeldt Studio Gallery, and finds inspiration every day in the pristine beauty of the area.
Artist Statement:
Assemblage as an art form is the art of metaphor, of juxtaposition, of setting one thing beside another without obvious connection, and I enjoy exploring this lyrical and poetic visual world. My Construction Series is a synthesis of color texture, and materials combined in an imaginative manner that reflects my interest in primitive forms and my attraction to rich and sensual surfaces.
These works are not based on intellectual concepts but rather flow from a desire to create an art form with spirit. Some works are quiet and reflective, others are whimsical, but all are expressions of transformation.
My environment and activities in my life show up as part of the assemblages, and the finished work reflect a time and place for me. Studio work involves shifting and editing of materials, and manipulation of painted surfaces until the formal concerns of balance and unity are satisfactory to me. The completed works invite the viewer to make connections between seemingly unrelated materials and objects to arrive at their own understanding of the piece.
A lifelong interest in textiles and the decorative arts has also informed this series, as well as past travel experiences.

Boca Raton & Delray Beach | On The Town in The Palm Beaches
We explore a tale of two cities. These neighboring coastal towns are full of charm and creativity. In Boca Raton, we’ll take a nostalgic train ride through the city’s history… and bust a move, as we take on a ballroom dance challenge…. And no wonder Delray Beach was voted the most fun small town in America -- we’ll visit a spot for vintage arcade games and indulge in the ultimate comfort food…. I’m Frank Licari, join me as we go On the Town in the Palm Beaches.
Warehouse Arts Enclave Capital Campaign
Our goal is to create affordable working artist studios of every medium by purchasing 50,000 sq.ft. of warehouse space.
Learn about our Indiegogo perks here - or donate directly here:
Typically, artists get priced out of their workplaces again and again after they have redeveloped a rundown, inexpensive area. In St. Petersburg, FL we have an opportunity to solve that problem by providing sustainable, affordable studios within a complex for 50+ artists working and selling their art. The nonprofit Warehouse Arts District Association can acquire 50,000 sq. ft. of easily renovated warehouse space. To acquire it, we must raise funds for the down-payment by mid-December, 2014. That's where you come in. Become a part of this life-changing opportunity for artists, and help create a model for cities across the country!

The Town of Palm Beach | On The Town in The Palm Beaches
Frank Licari is exploring the Town of Palm Beach – now although it’s home to some of the most exclusive addresses in the world, this island is surprisingly accessible and fun. We’ll play the back nine at a place where the golf course is just as spectacular as the view, we’ll ride through a scenic bike trail on a bicycle built for two and we’ll visit a pharmacy that houses an 82-seat classic soda fountain – that’s all on this episode of On the Town in The Palm Beaches.
Chicago Art Movement from May 19 2007 Habatat Galleries Vid3
I believe there is an art movement in Chicago that is occurring in some Chicago galleries. They are interacting in an inspiring way, I'm capturing it to share with people. Go to ChicagoArtMovement.com for more than 70 videos. I will slowly be uploading the videos on YouTube. This is the walk video where our guide, Michael John Hofer from Habatat Galleries Chicago takes us to his gallery. If you are an art collector or art investor, you should take notice of the Chicago galleries which are part of this movement. If you are a parent, you must take your kids to the galleries, even if you are not buying. Good artistic, creative images stick to the minds of children, like sports and other activities, you should enrich your children by going to the galleries and museums. Galleries usually feature living artists who have series works, it's a different experience compared to the huge museums. If you are an artist or want to open a gallery or want to understand how galleries operate, check out the videos. This is the 3rd video from Habatat galleries of that day's walk.

Augusta Savage: A Woman of Her Word
Jeffreen M. Hayes, executive director, Threewalls
An outstanding sculptor associated with the intellectual and cultural awakening known as the Harlem Renaissance, Augusta Savage (1892-1962) overcame poverty, racism, and sexual discrimination in pursuit of her goals. Creating new visions of black identity in her work, she was also an activist, campaigning for equal rights for African Americans in the arts. The traveling exhibition Augusta Savage: Renaissance Woman and its accompanying catalog is the first to reassess Savage’s contributions to art and cultural history in light of 21st-century attention to the concept of the artist-activist. The exhibition viewing dates are as follows: the Cummer Museum of Art, October 12, 2018-April 7, 2019; the New York Historical Society, May 3–July 28, 2019; the Palmer Museum of Art, Pennsylvania State University, August 24–December 8, 2019; and the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, January 19–March 22, 2020. The groundbreaking catalog features illustrations of more than 40 works by Savage, her students, and her contemporaries, archival letters, rarely seen photographs, and an extensive bibliography and essays by Kirsten Pai Buick, Bridget R. Cooks, and Howard Dodson. In celebration of the Washington, DC, book launch on June 23, 2019, exhibition organizer Jeffreen M. Hayes discusses the life, work, and lasting legacy of Savage as an artist and a community builder. This program was proposed and made possible by Darryl Atwell.
