Take over this Ottawa-area farm -- for free.
Stephen Overbury is looking for someone to take over his farm as he prepares to return to Japan.
Stu Mills visited him near Smiths Falls, Ontario to learn more.
But instead of selling it or renting it out, the 62-year-old is offering it up to the right person, in perpetuity — and it won't cost a dime to take it over.
Earlier this week, Overbury posted an ad titled HARD WORKING POSITION WITHOUT PAY (honest!) on online classified ad site Kijiji.
His ad offers permanent use of a wonderful waterfront historical farm, four barns, a paved driveway, some equipment and a vehicle and, if necessary, free training to run a hobby farm, along with a picturesque 1830 stone home in good condition.
But he has high standards for who will take over his picturesque farm on the shores of the Rideau River.
For one, Overbury wants tenants who have realistic goals for the farm and would genuinely make use of it.
They also have to be tried-and-true, compassionate animal lovers, which means not killing raccoons or any other unwanted creatures that show up on the farm.
Ottawa Farmers' Market (Lansdown)
The Ottawa Farmers’ Market in the Glebe is a producer-run organization that features vendors from an area up to 100 kilometers from Ottawa. Providing an opportunity to buy the freshest, local products the season has to offer direct from the people who produce it, the market is also a great place to meet friends, have lunch and enjoy the market musicians, buskers, chef demonstrations and tastings.
It provides environments where local farmers, specialty food processors, and artisans can flourish by delivering premium quality self-produced goods from within the Ottawa region through vibrant community markets.

CX OCup #4 - Baseball Cross - E4/M3 Race (with commentary)
Baseball Cross is an awesome flowy course with a good mix of corners and straightaways. There are 3 or 4 dismounts per lap so technical skill is important. It rained the whole day before, a little in the morning, and a little in the later races, but somehow the E4/M3 race was clear. Still, the ground was soft and wet in some parts so you had to be comfortable with a little bit of slippiness.
I felt really great in the pre-ride. I arrived early, made sure I ate a little extra food, and did around 4 laps before the start of the race with the last one being just a little under race pace. A good warmup set me up for a good race. I maintained some calmness in the first lap instead of burning myself out and just focused on being smooth.
Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast.
I finished the race in 4th place in E4, 8th overall, in a race with 82 starters. Really stoked. An Ontario Cup podium is not too far away...

Ontario Announces Next Excellence in Agriculture Award Recipient: Dairy Distillery
Known as 'Vodkow', Dairy Distillery uses innovation to produce a new spirit from milk sugar by applying a specific process to convert the milk byproduct into alcohol, with anything not being bottled put safely back into the environment. Dairy Distillery will also help Ontario dairy farmers by purchasing milk permeate, most of which would normally go to waste at a cost to the farmer.
