Ulysses S. Grant Home On High St. In Galena, Illinois
This brick house is where the Grant's were living when the Civil War broke out. The following is from the Galena visitor's website...
Grant in Galena
Grant and his family arrived in Galena in the spring of 1860 and rented a small Federal style brick house on High Street. He had ended a fifteen year military career six years earlier, but had enjoyed little business success as a civilian. He hoped to reverse his economic misfortune by moving to northwestern Illinois, where he would work in the Galena store owned by his father and managed by his younger brothers, Simpson and Orvil. Grant was a clerk in name only; he spent considerable time away from the store, travelling through the Northwest considerably during the winter of 1860-61. They had customers in all the little towns in south-west Wisconsin, south-east Minnesota, and northeast. Iowa. Until he left Galena in the spring of 1861 to serve in the Civil War, Grant and his wife, Julia, rented (this) modest brick home on the west side of the river for approximately $100.00 a year.

Illinois Adventure #1403 Dwight Historical Society Museum
The Dwight Historical Society was organized in September 1964 to bring together those interested in Dwight's rich history and to collect, preserve and display objects and items which exhibit that history.
In 1983, the Village of Dwight provided space to the Dwight Historical Society for a museum in the Old Village Hall at 120 E. Chippewa Street. In 1999, the Village offered the restored Alton Railroad Depot, built in 1891 by Henry Ives Cobb, to the Historical Society for its use. The Museum was moved and opened in 2000 at 119 West Main Street. The Depot is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Dwight Historical Society and its Museum is a self-supporting organization which relies on support and funding from its membership and from donations. Membership in the Society is open to all.

ABANDONED NUCLEAR BUNKERS!:
Today on Strange Places, I explore a mysterious abandoned baseball field in a forest, that was in use until a few years ago. In fact, I used to play baseball games here when I was a kid! Now I must tour the field that I once loved, for it has fallen into disrepair. I found evidence that people have created a chill spot at the old shed that used to house baseball equipment. People hauled furniture out onto the field!

About Max Power: Max Power is the host of the web series, Strange Places. Max was interested in exploring abandoned places since he was four, however, his parents kept him on a short leash. Max's senior year of high school, he made several expeditions to a tunnel in Hinsdale, IL. In 2015, Max decided to begin the web series, Strange Places, to practice his filmmaking skills. Illinois Adventure #1203 The history of the river town of Beardstown
Beardstown is one of Illinois' older towns, first settled in 1819. The City's founder, Thomas Beard, was from Ohio, and with his friend General Murray McConnel of Edwardsville, arrived at an Indian Mound Village in 1819, located just below Mascouten Bay. French explorers had named the site Beautiful Mound Village because the Indian camp was at the base of large Indian burial mounds. Beard erected a log cabin at the river's edge and began trading with the Indians.

Pekin ILLINOIS at NRG Energy Corp, Midwest Generation, Warm Water Discharge
I’m one of the few Chicagoans (born & raised, but currently & permanently abandoned) that absolutely love Coal Fired Power Plants!
No sarcasm here!
Thank you for everything you do to stimulate the Economy of Illinois.
Without NRG Energy’s Megawatt electric plant Caterpillar Inc. in Peoria, Illinois would have no electricity, with Caterpillar Mossville / Peoria IL being one of the largest manufacturing plants & being one of the highest gross revenue companies in the state.
So many people in IL are dependent upon their careers and income from Cat, despite any manufacturing being done out of state or overseas.
Also, so many anglers like myself need a warm water discharge effluent in winter time to target big fish, in areas where the main forage of the apex predators (Blue Catfish & Striped Bass) is Asian carp & Bighead carp.
