Bedford is the county town of Bedfordshire, England. Bedford was founded at a ford on the River Great Ouse, and is thought to have been the burial place of Offa of Mercia. Bedford Castle was built by Henry I, although it was destroyed in 1224.
Bedford was granted borough status in 1165 and has been represented in Parliament since 1265. It is well known for its large population of Italian descent. Bedford is on the Midland Main Line, with stopping services to London and Brighton operated by Thameslink, and express services to London and the East Midlands operated by East Midlands Trains.
The town of Kempston is adjacent to Bedford, as are the villages of Elstow, Renhold and Ravensden. Wixams is a new town which is being developed to the south of Bedford. Villages in the Borough of Bedford with populations of more than 2,000 as of 2005 were Biddenham, Bromham, Clapham, Elstow, Oakley, Sharnbrook, Shortstown, Wilstead, and Wootton. There are also many smaller villages in the borough. The villages in the borough are popular with commuters to Bedford, and also with people who commute to Milton Keynes, London and towns in Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire.
Transport in Bedford provides links between the town and other parts of England. Road access to the town is provided by the A6 road. Bedford bus station serves the town of Bedford, The bus station is part owned by the Stagecoach in Bedford and Bedford Borough Council and is situated in the town centre on All Hallows just off Greyfriars.

The Higgins Bedford asked to produce a video for their entry into the Art Fund 2014 Museum of the Year competition.
The competition champions museums throughout the UK, encouraging more people to visit as a result of the huge publicity gained even if only shortlisted.
From conception to completion we made the video in just 7 days! Burning the midnight oil in order to meet the submission deadline.

The Cecil Higgins Museum, as it was formerly known, opened its doors to the public on 25th July 1949, housed in the former Higgins family home. The Museum was founded by the philanthropic brewer, Cecil Higgins (1856-1941) to house his collection of ceramics, glass and objets d’art for the benefit, interest and education of the inhabitants of, and visitors to, Bedford. Cecil Higgins left a complex will to protect his collection which stipulated how the museum was to be organised. He also left a trust fund, to be used for museum purposes, but principally for acquiring works of art.
Over the years collecting policies shifted focus, moving from decorative arts to watercolours, furniture and prints. The period between 1952 and 1964, under the curatorship of Margaret Greenshields, were the most productive in terms of collecting watercolours. Over 500 were acquired in twelve years. In 1971, following the appointment of Helina Graham as curator, the collecting policy switched back to the decorative arts, with the purchase of over 200 pieces from the Handley-Read Collection including the William Burges furniture.
From 1988, the focus returned to collecting prints, this time concentrating on the 20th century. The print collection now numbers over 400 pieces, including works by some of the finest British artists as well as internationally renowned figures such as Picasso, Lichtenstein and Dürer. The collection charts styles as well as print processes, from Whistler’s delicate etchings to Edward Bawden’s magnificent linocuts. The last major addition to the print collection was a generous donation in 2004 from the Scottish artist Alan Davie (1920 – present) of over 70 prints, as well as five works in gouache.
In the 1970s the former Higgins & Sons Castle Brewery buildings became available. John Turner was appointed Curator in 1974 and he led the transformation of the brewery buildings into the new town museum, which opened its doors to the public in 1981. The museum was merged with the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery in 2005, but both buildings remained essentially separate until the museum closed for redevelopment in October 2010 and then The Higgins Bedford reopened on June 21st 2013.

Kempston is a modern village on the western outskirts of Bedford. Many villagers here swear they will always come back to Kempston. It has parks, and traditional pubs, and more than its fair share of churches. Kempston also has business... which is my video here so people know it is not the boonies. 2 minutes of the main buildings between the Sainsburys and Addison Park.

MYID: Poland in Bedford! - An Exhibition of Polish Heritage in Bedford.
We are pleased to announce that PBIC had launched the MYID Project funded by Young Roots Lottery Heritage Fund.
The project has provided training workshops for young people to collect and record the stories of the ‘history keepers’ that settled in Bedfordshire following World War II. Young participants collected many unique artefacts and photographs that are presented in a final exhibition. The Higgins Bedford museum has worked very closely with PBIC to prepare this incredible exhibition.
We would like to encourage you to visit The Higgins Bedford museum to view a full film showing the ‘history keepers’ from the Polish community highlighting their shared stories and to see other historical artefacts.

Z przyjemnością informujemy, iż PBIC wdrożyło projekt 'MYID' finansowany przez Young Roots Lottery Heritage Fund.
W ramach projektu zostały zorganizowane liczne warsztaty szkoleniowe dla młodych ludzi, uczestnicy projektu przeprowadzili wywiady z Polakami którzy przeprowadzili się do Bedford w wyniku II Wojny Światowej. Młodzi uczestnicy zebrali wiele unikalnych artefaktów oraz zdjęć, które zostały przedstawione w ostatecznej wystawie.
Muzeum 'The Higgins Bedford' ściśle współpracował z PBIC, aby przygotować tę niesamowitą wystawę.

Caterpillars hang from a thread in Bedford
Alfonse Taishauser was taking his Tibetan Terrier, Poppy, for a walk behind the Higgins Museum when he spotted twenty tiny caterpillars hanging from a thread.
Miracles of nature like this don't last long, so I wanted someone else to share it too, he said.
