Hole of Horcum - North York Moors National Park
The shots were taken 23 January 2013 between the snowfalling. The Hole of Horcum is some 400ft deep, that's about 135 metres, created during the ice age on the northern boundary of Pickering, with the Levisham Beck meandering its way through. The hills surrounding the valley are known as the Tabular Hills of the North York Moors - so named because of their flat tabular summits - known locally as 'Nabs'.
In years gone by, I recall hang gliders being launched here.
Not without a mythical giant: Legend has it that the giant 'Wade' - a heroic Saxon chief and fighter, is said to have formed the Hole of Horcum when he grabbed a handful of earth to throw at his wife. His heroics apparently being that he travelled and conquered his fighting adversaries.

Hole of Horcum | North York Moors National Park | England | UK【SCENIC WALK】
【Hole of Horcum】is one of the most emotional views in North York Moors National Park. We arrived there at 3pm, we didn't have plenty of time to explore the hollow. Therefore, we took a walk along a trail on an edge. The moment we started to walk, the sun was setting. Everything soaked up the glow of the sunset and was shining. I'm sure that nobody dislikes that absolute beautiful view.
I suggest that you should go there more than 2 hours before the sunset. Firstly, you should go to the hollow before the sun goes down. You can discover something interesting in the hollow. And then you can see the perfect sunset from the edge.

The elevation gain is about 200m, some kids are there, so I mean if you don’t get used to hike, that’s the best place to start hiking!

【North York Moors National Park】is located in north east coast in England. It shows us many faces such as moors, abbeys, coasts, hills, mountains... There are some parking space beside some roads. If you park there and go for a walk, you may see a view which is far beyond your imaginations.
I would recommend you to go to Whitby Abbey in the night(Actually it is a bit outside of National Park). It's closed in the night but you can see it from the car park nearby abbey. It is illuminated and appears in front of you.

Hole of Horcum - Places to Visit in North Yorkshire. We arrive at the Hole of Horcum and commit to a 5 mile circuit walk around the Hole of Horcum before arriving back to Saltergate Car Park for an ice-cream! Some of the footage from the Hole of Horcum is slightly shaky owing to extremely strong winds. This is a fantastic walk to do as you will see from the video footage. Newtondale & The Hole of Horcum, North York Moors - 20 August 2017
A 13.5 mile circular walk, starting at Eller Beck Bridge on the A169, the route crosses the North York Moors Railway line and then follows the ridge of the Northdale Scar before descending to the valley bottom, crossing the line again at Pifelhead Wood, the route then heads south to the Hole of Horcum. Crossing Levisham Moor to Dundale Pond the route then turns north west and bears towards Skelton Tower above Newtondale. Returning through Levisham Bottoms, hugging the ridge the route descends to Pifelhead Wood before climbing back up to the eastern side of the valley and returning to Eller Beck Bridge.

WILD CAMPING ON THE NORTH YORKSHIRE MOORS
Wild Camping trip to the North Yorkshire Moors UK with Mick. It was a wet and windy night but well worth the 9 mile round trip to visit Skelton Tower, where we wild camped for the night, and then on to the Hole of Horcum the next day.
Skelton Tower
The tower, which has two stories was constructed around 1830 as a shooting lodge by the Rev. Robert Skelton, a former rector of Levisham. The headland it sits on is known as Corn Hill Point due to the surrounding pastures being ploughed up and used for growing crops during the Napoleonic wars.
The views from Skelton Tower provide superb views encompassing Goathland Moor to the north, Pickering to the south, and down Newtondale and over the track of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. We were lucky enough to see the Steam Train passing
Hole of Horcum
The Hole of Horcum is one of the most spectacular features in the National Park, it stretches 400 feet deep and is more than half a mile across. Legends hang easily upon a place known as the 'Devil's Punchbowl' – the best-known says that it was formed when Wade the Giant scooped up a handful of earth to throw at his wife during an argument.
Another great wild camping adventure and thanks to Mick for inviting me along.
