Randazzo (Italy) Travel
Take a tour of Sicilian Town of Randazzo in Randazzo, Italy - part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
In the hills of the beautiful Italian island of Sicily is the small medieval town of Randazzo.
The town has a varied history, having been the home of the Greeks, the Romans, the Arabs, and the Normans.
The Black plague of the 16th century left this once thriving city all but deserted, fortunately its was repopulated and restored in later years.
This wealth of history gives the town such buildings as an ancient Castle, which now houses a museum.
There is also the Church of Santa Maria, which is built largely out of black lava stone.
Though the town suffered heavy property damage during World War Two, the city was promptly rebuilt to once again showcase its medieval origins.

Places to see in ( Acireale - Italy )
Places to see in ( Acireale - Italy )
Acireale is a coastal city and comune in the north-east of the Metropolitan City of Catania, Sicily, southern Italy, at the foot of Mount Etna, on the coast facing the Ionian Sea. It is home to numerous churches, including the Neo-Gothic St. Peter's Basilica, St. Sebastian's Basilica in the Sicilian Baroque style, and the 17th century Acireale Cathedral, and a seminary, for the training of priests. Acireale is also noted for its art and paintings: the oldest academy in Sicily, the Accademia dei Dafnici e degli Zelanti, is located here.
In the 16th century, Emperor Charles V freed the city from feudal ties, creating it as a Crown commune. In the late 16th century, the town had between 6,000 and 7,000 inhabitants. The most ancient document mentioning the Carnival of Acireale dates to 1594. The town expanded its role as a trade center (it was granted the right to hold a Free Market or Fiera Franca) and received numerous new edifices.
Acireale was nearly destroyed by an earthquake in 1693, which substantially halted its economic growth. During the Expedition of the Thousand (1861), which freed Sicily from the Kingdom of Naples, Acireale was the first town to rebel against the Bourbons. In 1941, it was bombed by the Allies, resulting in many civilian casualties.
The church of San Biagio in Acireale contains some of the relics of the Venerable Gabriele Allegra, who had entered the Franciscan seminary in 1918. Villa Belvedere and Parco delle Terme, two large public parks and La Timpa, a beautiful natural reserve overlooking the Ionian Sea, offer great nature sights. Piazza Duomo, with its St. Peter's Basilica, is in the main square of the city. There are many beautiful historic Baroque buildings in town, such as Palazzo Pennisi and Palazzo Modò, which date from the 17th century, and Palazzo Musmeci dating from the 18th century. The commercial city center is primarily located in the streets including and adjacent to Corso Umberto and Corso Italia, which are the city's principal thoroughfares. The Fortezza del Tocco, a 16th-century fort, has been converted to a nature reserve.
( Acireale - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Acireale . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Acireale - Italy

A TOUR OF SICILY IN 2012
VISITING HISTORICAL SITES IN AGRIGENTO, TOARMINA ,SYRACUSE, PALERMO (MONREALE), VILLA PIAZZA ARMERINA AND MOUNT ETNA.
Sicily:Almalfi Coast 09
We flew into Palermo, picked up a car, and headed out to Erice. Erice is an unforgettable medieval hilltown that sits atop of Mt Erice with ancient origins in Sicily, close to the port city of Trapani on the island's western coast. We stayed there as we traveled the Western part of Sicily visiting surrounding sites including Trapani Sergesta and the Palermo Market. Then we headed across to Cefalu where we spent some time before driving through central Sicily. It's wild and empty interior is a beautiful, uncompromising land with hilltop towns overlooking this spectacular valleys, hills and vineyards. We made our way up and down a few of these including Gangi, Nicosia, Troina and Randazzo. Then we settled in my favorite Sicilian town of Taormina. Taormina sits on the eastern coast of Sicily with a beautiful view of Mt Etna, Sicily's most active volcano. A wonderful place for those wanting a taste of Sicilian dolce vita. It houses Sicily's most stunning ancient theaters. From there we took the ferry from Messina over to Calabria, which sits in southern Italy's toe region where we made our way up to the Amalfi Coast spending a couple days in the beautiful town of Positano. The Amalfi Coast drive is a must do to any visit to Italy. We visited Pompeii as well before heading to the island of Sardinia for some rest and fun before heading to Rome overnight to catch our flight home. It was another spectacular trip.

MANIACE CASTLE
There must have been fortifications at this narrow headland on Ortigia ever since the island was occupied, as it overlooks the entrance to Siracusa's sheltered bay, and is an obvious defensive site. The castle standing here now, however, dates back 'only' to the thirteenth century, when it was built on the orders of the great Frederick II, known as 'Wonder of the World' (who also built Puglia´Cs castel del Monte and other fortresses). It takes its name from George Maniakes, a Byzantine general who commanded an earlier fort on the site. The castle is open in the mornings, and it is worth visiting as there is a great deal more to it than you would guess from the entrance. Visitors enter through rings of defences, until reaching the castle at the heart of the complex; a stern square with round corner towers. The central portal is a grand pointed archway decorated with many different marbles. Until recently the castle was a military site and off-limits. italianshopdoc.com

Giovanni Battista Vaccarini,Catania (Italy) - Travel Guide
Take a tour of Giovanni Battista Vaccarini in Catania, Italy - part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Catania, Italy is home to a vast array of beautiful architecture in classical, Roman, and Baroque styles.
Among all these buildings is the great Duomo, a building with bold outlines and striking shades of grey.
It is considered to be the best work of the Italian architect Giovanni Battista Vaccarini.
He built many churches and other buildings in the distinctive Sicilian Baroque style, most of them in and around Catania.
The Duomo was completed in 1736 and has one of the most beautiful facades in the city.
While wandering through the streets of Catania, it is not at all uncommon to pass by several of Vaccarini's buildings in the same day.
