Quando una famiglia benestante del posto rifiutò l'ospitalità a una povera donna e a suo figlio,Dio si offese e seppellì l'intera famiglia sotto cumuli di sabbia in una località chiamata ERG CHEBBI:
Merzouga è una località turistica situata in un' oasi nel deserto del Marocco, nella provincia di Al-Rashidiyya.
Un tempo era un punto di sosta lungo le piste che attraversavano il deserto,ora è luogo di partenza e di arrivo dei turisti che visitano il deserto sabbioso (erg) poichè a breva distanza si trovano le enormi dune dell' erg Chebbi.La città più vicina è Erfoud.
Talvolta in primavera a nord-ovest di Merzouga si forma un lago dalle acque basse che attira stormi di fenicoteri e di altri uccelli acquatici (lago Dayet Srij).
Nell'oasi di Merzouga è ambientato il finale della Pellicola Marrakech Express di Gabriele Salvatores.

After leaving our tent and rode the camels back to Merzouga, our guide Hassan takes us off road to start day 3 of our Morocco Desert Tour. First we visited Tifart Lake which is a seasonal lake in the area. Then a viewpoint overlooking the Erg Chebbi sand dunes, and finally a mine known for its minerals specifically ones used for Mascara.
