Globe Trekker Series 12 - Las Vegas City Guide Trailer
Interested in more information? Follow this link to find out everything you need to know!
Situated in the middle of the Mojave Desert, Las Vegas was founded just over 100 years ago in 1905. From its humble beginnings as a small desert outpost, the city has grown to become the self-styled entertainment capital of the world, attracting over 20 million visitors a year from all over the world.
Globe Trekker Ian Wright spends a week in this non-stop, party city, exploring the fantastical hotels and neon casinos of “The Strip”. He gains a bird’s eye view of the city from atop The Stratosphere twer and takes his chances on the world’s highest thrill ride, before undertaking some alternative sightseeing at Vegas’ famously kitsch wedding chapels.
Having over-indulged on one of Las Vegas’ famous “all-you-can eat” breakfast buffets – Ian gets a lesson in gambling at the local Hilton. Tuxedo-clad he hits the casino and trys his hand at craps roulette, and blackjack, picking up some top-tips from the experts along the way.
Next, Ian attends the Ms. Senior USA Pageant which was founded in 1972 and requires all entrants to be aged 60 years young and above. The event was created in response to the growing lack of respect for the elderly in the U.S. – little did they imagine it would become quite so popular with scores of wannabe beauty queens pouring in from all over the States.
Ian takes to the skys with the Flying ElviThen, Ian gets up close and personal with a performing Bengal tiger, enjoys the sparkling sequined showmanship of Liberace –“my clothes may look funny, but they make me the money” – and even gets a lesson in the fine art of pole dancing.
Deciding to take a break from the whirlwind excesses of the city he travels to the Nevada Test Site where the atomic bomb was detonated.
His journey ends with an epic hike into the Grand Canyon for stunning views of this incredible natural wonder. Then for a final adrenalin boost, he can’t resist taking to the skies with the amazing Flying Elvi.

U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron “Thunderbirds”
Meet Lieutenant Colonel Eric Gorney our 2019 United States Air Force Operations Officer.
TAGS,formation,Thunderbirds,pilot,air show,flying,Nellis,Air Force,Operations Officer,F-17,Eric Gorney,Gorney
- I'm Major Eric Gorney, Thunderbird 7, the team's operations officer. I am from Saginaw, Michigan. Well, at first I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do, so for me the Air Force was all about options and opportunity. Selfishly, I kinda started off 'cause I was excited about the educational benefits and didn't really know what I was getting into. After the Air Force Academy and being commissioned in the Air Force and getting to know this great team and this great group of people and the mission, I'm super excited to have gone that way, and very happy to continue to serve. Air Force Academy is one of the three commissioning sources along with ROTC and OTS. So it provides a four-year military college experience in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Beautiful place up there. It's not just the college experience. You have the whole academic part, you have the physical part and you have the military part. The challenge is doing that all together at one time. Again, initially I was kind of looking to see what I wanted to do in life, and in the Air Force and looking at a bunch of different opportunities. And that's the cool thing that the military gives you. An opportunity to check out a lot of different career fields. To take a lot of different career paths, and figure out the one that's right for you. So, for me, I went on one of our operations Air Force trips there and got to go out into the field and spend a couple of weeks at an Air Force base and that's where I got some good mentorship and learn that if you're able to do the mission, if you're able to be part of the mission, then try to be part of the mission. And, certainly, everyone in the Air Force plays a vital role in that, but I was looking forward to flying and certainly happy to have gone that way. When you're flying fast everything comes after you a little bit faster, so certainly the challenge aspect of it. But it's also the aspects of that mission and being part of an integral team that really drew me to that. I don't think it's unlike any other team-based group out there, whether it's a sports group or NASCAR or any other group that really has a close-knit, shared, common culture. Maybe even police officers, or firefighters. You just get drawn in by a common goal, and in this case it's taking care of the bad guys when we have to, supporting ground troops when we can, and then making sure that we protect the freedoms that we fight for every day. As the operations officer, I don't fly in the demonstration, and I don't fix the airplanes, but basically everything else is my responsibility. Whether that's logistics, coordination, scheduling, just making sure all the bits and pieces come together so that every weekend we have a successful trip and successful demonstrations. I serve as the primary evaluator and safety observer on the ground, so I don't necessarily tell the pilots, A little more this, a little more left, a little more right. I just tell them, Here's what I think the crowd saw, and I try to pick out things that we can improve on for next time, all trying to get towards our goal of putting on the very best demonstration that we can. And then, of course, safety being our number one priority, that's where I get to help, making sure we meet our minimum parameters, that we keep the crowd safe and our pilots safe. I think, first of all, I would say just to jump in. I think finding the inspiration to start and the motivation to continue doing things gets a lot easier once you've committed to taking the first step. So whether that's finding your passion, finding what motivates you, just getting after your daily work, just start doing it, and then that's the best way to learn, and I think in the end it's gonna get you the farthest. It might be a little bit cheesy, but I have to go with my mom. Probably the strongest, most resilient person, always able to just take everything in stride and keep going, and then just starts every day fresh, with the best optimistic attitude that I've ever seen out of anyone. Definitely wanna say thanks, Mom, and looking forward to trying to be like her. It's just making a priority, spending time and getting to the gym that's 90% of the battle, and then lifting up heavy things and putting them down also helps. I think it's walking in and feeling that sense of pride of being part of this team that's dedicated themselves to telling
