The Man with Two Hats De man met de twee hoeden
In the City of Apeldoorn, The Man With Two Hats monument symbolizes many dualities. The two hats in and of themselves represent a time when to come through the war with one hat was something of a feat. It represents the end of the horrors of war but in the same vein the peace and freedom that continue to elude many countries today. It symbolizes the two countries of Canada and the Netherlands. The outstretched arms symbolize the liberation of the Netherlands and also the reaching out of country to country, people to people. The visage, one of sadness and deep meditation and also one of serenity and peace. With the donation of this monument, the Netherlands pays a lasting tribute to Canada. A statue identical to this one stands in Ottawa, Ontario. The twin monuments symbolically link Canada and the Netherlands, forever close friends.
The monument, which was sculpted by Dutch artist Henk Visch, is made of bronze and measures 4.6 metres. Entitled The Man with Two Hats (De man met de twee hoeden), it symbolizes the historic bonds between Canada and the Netherlands.

STORYLINE:
Ahead of the investiture of the Netherlands' new king Amsterdam has turned and red, white, blue- and orange.
The colours of the Dutch royal coat of arms and the orange of the country's House of Orange-Nassau royal family adorn the city's buildings and walkways.
Around a million people are expected to pack into the city's narrow streets and canal side roads as Queen Beatrix abdicates after a 33-year reign and is replaced as monarch by her eldest son, Willem-Alexander.
Tourist Ellen Biel from the Dutch city of Bergen believes the Orange-Nassau royal family is important to Dutch people.
They keep all of the Dutch together. Everybody is orange. There is no religion or anything else. The orange is one belief.
Queen's day is a huge national holiday every April 30th in the Netherlands.
But following his crowning on Tuesday, King's day will be celebrated on 27th April to mark Willem-Alexander's birthday.
A coin featuring the new king will be available for collectors to buy from 1 May, the day after he ascends the throne in Amsterdam.
Willem-Alexander, who is Beatrix's eldest son, will become the first Dutch male monarch since the 19th century.

Dropping

UCI 2012 Track Cycling World Championships -- The revenge of Sir Chris Hoy
CHRIS HOY WINS THE KEIRIN
At Apeldoorn, a year ago, he was beaten by the Australian Shane Perkins. To take his revenge, however, he really had to surpass himself on the track of the Hisense Arena in Melbourne.
In fact, his chances seemed very poor when -- less than a circuit from the end -- the race was still led by the German rider Maximilian Levy. But as he entered the last curve, Hoy pulled the rabbit out of the hat by finding an opening that allowed him to launch his attack.
ANNA MEARES LEAVES WITH 2 GOLD MEDALS
Anna Meares was also determined to take her leave from the event with a second exploit, after her win the day before in the Keirin. The Australian rider was therefore not content with just winning the 500 meters, but also established a new world record at that distance in 33''010.
Someone had told me that I could have come in under 32 seconds, but I'm perfectly happy with this time. I've finished these championships in style, and my progress during the event shows that it's not always easy to hit top form at the beginning of a week of intense competition, declared Meares before announcing that she was looking forward to the London games. Right now, the Olympics are my priority -- for the future, frankly. I don't know yet. What's clear is that I'm going to take some time out for myself.
SECOND TITLE FOR ALISON SHANKS
The Women's Individual Pursuit brought the first victory of the 2012 event for New Zealand, thanks to Alison Shanks, who obtained the second title of her career, three years after her triumph in Pruszkow, beating the British rider Wendy Houvenhagel and the Australian Ashlee Ankudinoff.
THE BELGIAN RIDERS WIN THE MADISON
The final title awarded in Melbourne went to the Belgian riders Kenny De Ketele and Gijs Van Hoecke, who won the Madison, coming in front of the British and Australian riders.
Overall, the 2012 UCI Track Cycling World Championships have been dominated by Australia and Great Britain, which each won six gold medals. However, beyond the clear superiority of the two teams, the level of the competition has been very high in all the specialties. The high number of world records broken on the circuit of the Hisense Arena is already whetting our appetites for the undoubtedly sumptuous show of track events that awaits us at the Olympic Games.

STORYLINE:
The chances of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair becoming European Union's first president appeared to wane as European socialists at a summit in Brussels leaned away from supporting him and other names surfaced in discussions.
In a race where no one has formally declared candidacy and the job is still ill-defined, there are as many nations that want a low-key technocrat as those that want a towering figure who can go head to head with other global powers.
That choice would effectively ban Blair from the president's job, as leftists cannot fill both top EU jobs that become available next year.
The no to Blair from continental socialists kept alive a race to fill the posts of EU president and foreign ministers, two jobs created by a hard-fought EU reform treaty due to take effect in January.
Blair was an early candidate.
His rivals are believed to include the Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende, Belgian leader Herman Van Rompuy, Luxembourg's Jean-Claude Juncker and Finnish ex-premier Paavo Lipponen.
None of these men has formally confirmed their candidacies.
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown arrived at the summit lobbying enthusiastically for Blair, saying his predecessor would make an excellent first EU president.
By the end of the summit he still gave Blair backing, but recognised there would be many other candidates.
Opposition to Blair largely stems from Britain's historical aloofness to many things European.
Britain is not part of the EU single currency - Blair stuck with the pound - nor a member of the Schengen zone of unfettered travel among most EU nations.
Gender is also an issue.
EU Parliament President Jerzy Buzek has said he believes a woman should fill the position.
