Day 3: Things to do in Kansas City, Visit The Center of the USA and World’s Largest Ball of Twine US

Today we explore Kansas City and the things to do in this great city. We also visit the Geographic center of the United States (USA) and see the world’s largest ball of twine. There are so many activities and attraction in Kansas City Missouri. So many that I have to share with you the best things to do in Kansas City.
There is the River Market, World War 1 Museum, Money Museum, National Museum of Miniatures and Toys, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and more. These are just some of the attractions and activities I did. I rode the KC Double Decker Bus to get a feel for the city and learn about the history, culture and vibes of the city.

Jesse James Bank Museum
The first successful armed bank robbery in the United States occurred at this location in Liberty, Missouri on February 13th, 1866. The robbers of the incident were never caught which led many to believe it was pulled off by the James-Younger gang. One bystander, a young man on his way to college, was shot dead in the street during their escape. If you notice, the clock is stopped at the exact date and time of the incident. We visited the Money Museum at the Kansas City branch of the Federal Reserve Bank. The Money Museum is connected to the Fed building and is located near Crown Center section of Kansas City, Missouri. The Money Museum is only one of two in the entire country and displays a comprehensive coin collection from the founding of the Republic to today. The museum also has a cash vault containing billions of legal tender but cannot be filmed or photographed.

For many pioneers headed west, the Missouri River served as the
first leg in their journey to the Western Trails. Travis Boley,,
rethinks the Missouri River in terms of its unique status as a
waterway that doubles as a National Historic Trail.
He is already engaged in creating a 40 mile hiking/biking trail
in the shared historic corridor of the Oregon/California/Santa Fe
Trail from Sugar Creek, Missouri to Gardner, Kansas. It will
intersect with the Katy Trail Extension at 63rd and Blue Ridge
Blvd. in Raytown, Missouri making it possible for hikers and
bikers to easily access the Missouri River at the former Wayne
City Landing near present day Sugar Creek, Missouri.
His grander vision includes opening up wide swaths of the
Missouri River shoreline to allow similar non-motorized access to
our metro area’s riverfront, including trails that connect the
remaining historic sites from the Lewis & Clark Expedition and
the old riverboat landings for the wagon roads. This concept
would fully realize the idea that Congress established in the
1968 National Trails Act, which called for the building of
“retracement” trails in such corridors to forever preserve these
corridors.

KCPT - The Local Show: The Money Man: The Federal Reserve Bank's Thomas Hoenig
In October, Thomas Hoenig retires after working twenty years for the Federal Reserve Bank. Crosby Kemper III sits down with Hoenig in an on location, special edition of The Local Show to get a unique perspective on the banking industry and the current economic struggles.
Thomas M. Hoenig is president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City and the senior member of the Federal Reserve System's Federal Open Market Committee, the key body with authority over national monetary policy in the United States.
Mr. Hoenig directs Federal Reserve activities in the Tenth Federal Reserve District — an area that spans a large portion of the central United States including: Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Wyoming, the northern half of New Mexico, and the western third of Missouri. The Bank is one of 12 regional banks in the Federal Reserve System. In addition to its participation in setting national monetary policy, the Bank is also responsible for supervising and regulating numerous commercial banks and bank holding companies, serving as the bank for the U.S. government and for commercial banks, and providing other payments services to depository institutions.
Mr. Hoenig received his doctorate in economics from Iowa State University. He joined the Federal Reserve Bank in 1973 as an economist and was a senior officer in banking supervision during the U.S. banking crisis of the 1980s. He assumed the role of president on October 1, 1991. He currently serves as chairman of the Federal Reserve Conference of Presidents -- Committee on Regulation, Bank Supervision and Legislation. Mr. Hoenig has been especially outspoken about the regulation of the financial industry and the role of monetary policy during the recent crisis.
Mr. Hoenig is host to the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City's economic policy symposium held annually in Jackson Hole, Wyo. The Jackson Hole economic symposium is attended by central bankers from around the world who join leading economists to discuss important issues facing policymakers.
He is a native of Fort Madison, Iowa, and resides in Kansas City, Mo.

Wight & Wight designed the main building. The Museum opened on Dec 11th 1933. The museum has a classical Beaux-Arts architecture style.
The museum's European painting collection is highly-prized. It includes works by Caravaggio, Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin, Petrus Christus, El Greco, Guercino, Alessandro Magnasco, Giuseppe Bazzani, Corrado Giaquinto, Cavalierie d'Arpino, Gaspare Traversi, Giuliano Bugiardini, Titian, Rembrandt, Peter Paul Rubens, as well as Impressionists Gustave Caillebotte, Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, and Vincent van Gogh.
The museum is distinguished (and widely celebrated) for its extensive collection of Asian art, especially that of Imperial China. Most of it was purchased for the museum in the early 20th century by Laurence Sickman, then a Harvard fellow in China. The museum has one of the best collections of Chinese antique furniture in the country. In addition to Chinese art, the collection includes pieces from Japan, India, Iran, Indonesia, Korea, and Southeast, and South Asia.
The American painting collection includes the largest collection open to the public of works by Thomas Hart Benton, who lived in Kansas City. Among its collection are masterpieces by George Bellows, George Caleb Bingham, Frederic Church, John Singleton Copley, Thomas Eakins, Winslow Homer, and John Singer Sargent.
Outside on the museum's immense lawn, the Kansas City Sculpture Park contains the largest collection of monumental bronzes by Henry Moore in the United States. The park also includes works by Alexander Calder, Auguste Rodin, George Segal and Mark di Suvero, among others. Beyond these, the park (and the museum itself) is well known for Shuttlecocks, a four-part outdoor sculpture of oversize badminton shuttlecocks by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen.
In addition, the museum also has collections of European and American sculpture, decorative arts and works on paper, Egyptian art, Greek and Roman art, modern and contemporary paintings and sculpture, pre-Columbian art, and the art of Africa, Oceania and the Americas. As well, the museum houses a major collection of English pottery and another of miniature paintings.
The Bloch building was added on a few years ago and has brought in a vast majority of new art paintings and sculptures as well as some of the old works that were moved over to that building.

I have heard about the Underground City and recently picked up a vehicle to move from one of the businesses in this Underground City located in Kansas City, MO. It is pretty Amazing.
