The Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina
According to Wikipedia... Wright Brothers National Memorial, located in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, commemorates the first successful, sustained, powered flights in a heavier-than-air machine. From 1900 to 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright came here from Dayton, Ohio, based on information from the U.S. Weather Bureau about the area's steady winds. They also valued the privacy provided by this location, which in the early twentieth century was remote from major population centers.
The Wrights made four flights from level ground near the base of the hill on December 17, 1903, following three years of gliding experiments from atop this and other nearby sand dunes. It is possible to walk along the actual routes of the four flights, with small monuments marking their starts and finishes. Two wooden sheds, based on historic photographs, recreate the world's first airplane hangar and the brothers' living quarters.
A 60-foot (18 m) granite monument, dedicated in 1932, is perched atop 90-foot-tall (27 m) Kill Devil Hill, commemorating the achievement of the Wright brothers. They conducted many of their glider tests on the massive shifting dune that was later stabilized to form Kill Devil Hill. Inscribed in capital letters along the base of the memorial tower is the phrase In commemoration of the conquest of the air by the brothers Wilbur and Orville Wright conceived by genius achieved by dauntless resolution and unconquerable faith. Atop the tower is a marine beacon, similar to one found in a lighthouse.
Wright Brothers National Memorial - Outer Banks
A visit to the Wright Brothers National Memorial located in Kill Devils Hill, NC. We really enjoyed the memorial. We didn't make it to the visitors center as we arrived not too long before they were closing and the person at the gate suggested we go visit the memorial first. We were going to come back to check out the visitors center as the tickets are good for a week, but we left the area the following day.

Chanute-Wright Brothers Memorial
The Chanute-Wright Brothers Memorial located in Chanute, Kansas.
“A Flight Into History
Our city was named after Octave Chanute, a noted engineer who designed railroads throughout the United States. He also built the first bridge over the Missouri River at Kansas City.
He was a mentor and friend to Wilbur and Orville Wright. His book, “Progress In Flying Machines” (1894), was a major reference for them.
This sculpture represents the first controlled and powered flight by the Wrights and the first for mankind. It happened on December 17, 1903 at Kitty Hawk, a windswept island off North Carolina. “

Correction at 11:01 - The Gateway Arch was built between 1963-1965. It was the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial that hosts the arch that was established in 1935. Thanks to Michael Elledge for pointing out this error.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
The 1935 Labor Day hurricane (formally known as Hurricane Three) was the most intense hurricane to make landfall in the United States on record in terms of both pressure and wind speed. It was also the most intense Atlantic hurricane on record until Hurricane Gilbert in 1988. The second tropical cyclone, second hurricane, and second major hurricane of the 1935 Atlantic hurricane season, the Labor Day Hurricane was the first of three Category 5 hurricanes to strike the United States at that intensity during the 20th century (the other two being 1969's Hurricane Camille and 1992's Hurricane Andrew). After forming as a weak tropical storm east of the Bahamas on August 29, it slowly proceeded westward and became a hurricane on September 1.
The hurricane intensified rapidly, and passed near Long Key on the evening of September 2. The region was swept by a massive storm surge as the eye passed. The waters quickly receded after carving new channels connecting the bay with the ocean; however, gale force winds and high seas persisted into Tuesday, preventing rescue efforts. The storm continued northwest along the Florida west coast, weakening before its second landfall near Cedar Key, Florida, on September 4.
The compact and intense hurricane caused extreme damage in the upper Florida Keys, as a storm surge of approximately 18 to 20 feet (5.5–6 meters) swept over the low-lying islands. The hurricane's strong winds and the surge destroyed nearly all the structures between Tavernier and Marathon. The town of Islamorada was obliterated. Portions of the Key West Extension of the Florida East Coast Railway were severely damaged or destroyed. The hurricane also caused additional damage in northwest Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas.
Cape Hatteras Named Top Ten Beach in US for 2014
Cape Hatteras has been named one of 2014's Ten Best Beaches in the US by Dr. Beach, aka Stephen Leatherman, one of America's biggest influencers in the world of coastal travel. It is the 7th year in a row for Cape Hatteras on this prestigious list. We can tell you how wonderful we think this special place is, but it's always nice to hear someone else say it... That said, we figured showing you a little video celebrating America's first National Seashore wouldn't hurt. The images are pretty compelling if we do say so...Hope to see you this summer! #OuterBanksSoul
