Naples is a city on the Gulf of Mexico in southwest Florida that’s known for high-end shopping and golf courses. The Naples Pier, first erected in 1888, is the city’s symbol, and is a popular fishing and dolphin-spotting destination. It’s flanked by miles of beaches with calm waters and fine white “sugar” sand, including those at Clam Pass Park and Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park.
Naples has a subtropical climate, with temperate and generally dry weather from the late fall through late spring and hotter and more humid weather in the summer through early fall with typical tropical thunderstorms in the late afternoon giving way to sunsets. However, Arctic blasts affect the area for a few days every winter, bringing temperatures around freezing, as well as frost. Snow flurries have been recorded before.
The best way to get around Naples is to rent a bicycle. Alternately, you can rent a car. If you stay in Old Naples you are in easy walking or biking distance of both the 5th and 3rd Street shopping and restaurant districts, the renowned Naples Pier and the beach. For upscale romance and the prettiest, most serene city beach in southwest Florida, come to Naples, the Gulf Coast's answer to Palm Beach. Development along the shoreline has been kept residential. The soft white sand is backed only by narrow dunes and half-hidden mansions. More than that, though, Naples is a cultured, sophisticated town, unabashedly stylish and privileged but also welcoming and fun-loving. Families, teens, couture-wearing matrons, middle-aged executives and smartly dressed young couples all mix and mingle as they stroll downtown's 5th Ave on a balmy evening. Travelers sometimes complain that Naples is expensive, but you can spend just as much elsewhere on a less impressive vacation.

Civil War Antiques, Civil War Soldier Letter from our antiques mall at Gannon's Antiques & Art. We just acquired a small family collection of letters from the Civil War. They were passed down and have never been for sale previously. This auction is for... A letter written in Camp Wallace, Columbus Ohio on November 7, 1862. The author is writing to his uncle and letting him know that he is now a soldier in the Army. Interestingly, he was taken prisoner. He also mentions that he was in Louisville, Kentucky and also in Columbus. The author continues to write that his brother John who is also in the army is most likely a prisoner as he is in the 89 Indiana regiment and I saw in the papers that the whole regiment was taken prisoner and that they are at Indianapolis. He continues to write that I like a soldiers life very well but I don't like to be a prisoner. This is an interesting letter. It also states that George Stephenson is now in the army as well. It would be interesting for the historian to research the names and find out more information about the men in this letter. It comes with the original envelope. The Lake City Columbia Co. Historical Museum
The Lake City Columbia Co. Historical Museum created the Patriot Room this summer and had a grand opening on Nov 7th.
The Mural on the wall was painted by artist Jimmy Johnson.
The Museum is looking for donations of items from any branch of the military, donations can be from any era and not limited to just wartime.
Other rooms of interest at the Museum are: The Parlor of May Vinzant, Cora's Bedroom, The Native American Room representing the Creek and Seminole Indians, The Blue and Grey Room.

AMERICAN REVOLUTION REVOLUTIONARY WAR DOCUMENT 1779 SOLDIER
This is an authentic historical political engraving from 1779. Full of symbolism, it shows father time using a magic lantern to project an image of the American Revolution to an audience of the continents, with America represented by an Indian crouched in the foreground. The black woman represents Africa, the woman holding a lantern symbolizes Asia and a woman bearing a shield is for Europe. Britain is shown as a prostrate lion and France as the cock. The image shows a teapot exploding among frightened British troops as American troops advance through the smoke. The Continental Army is waving the Navy Jack flag whilst charging. On the other side of the tea pot the British soldiers flee. It is titled The Tea Tax Tempest and is dated 1779. It is professionally framed behind glass and has not been opened. It appears to be in very nice condition considering the paper is over 200 years old. There are a few minor rim tears and some creases. All in all, very nice condition. The image measures approximately 17 x 13 inches, not including the bottom wording. The bottom shows Holland and Switzerland's contests with tyrants and is pictured as emblematic of the revolt of the American colonies. The overall framed piece measures approximately 22x20 inches. It was engraved by Carl Guttenberg who was born in 1743 and died in 1790. This piece was made in 1779 during the height of the American revolution which did not end until 1783. This is a very hard-to-find image that is perfect the collector of American history memorabilia.
