Hiking the Zion Narrows is a bucket list experience to be sure. It's considered one of the absolute best trails in the world and it's a hike nearly anyone can enjoy.
Hike the full 16 miles or just a few. Whatever you're up to. Here's what you'll need to know before heading out:
Plan on getting wet. The vast majority of the hike will be in the river. Wear closed toed shoes. Make sure to check the flow rate of the Virgin River before beginning your hike (info available at Zion National Park visitor center). Even on hot days, the narrows can be quite cold. Be prepared. Check air and water temperatures before heading out.
Start at the Temple of Sinawava (southern end) or Chamberlain's Ranch (northern end - PERMIT REQUIRED). If you begin at the southern end you can hike 5 miles to Big Spring but you will require a permit to venture further. 10 miles out and back total.
No toilets or trash receptacles anywhere along the trail. Pack out ALL of your waste. Please leave absolutely no trace.

The narrows zion national park, 4K, Utah, USA
The Zion Narrows route is the most popular hike in Zion Park, and one of the world's best canyon hikes. It is pure fun and can be tailored to suite any ability level. The trail is the Virgin River. Plan on being wet. In fact, the cool water makes this hike particularly pleasant during the hot months of summer.
Most people hike in casually from the bottom, going as far as they feel comfortable or have time and then turning back. Serious hikers start at the top and do the entire 16 miles as a long day hike or an overnight backpack. (Permits are required if you start at the top.)
Plan on spending 60% of your time in the water and the remaining time walking on the riverbank. For most of the hike the water is less than knee-deep, but there is always the chance you'll step into a pool that is waste-deep or deeper. The longest exposure to waist-deep water is usually only about 20 yards.

Length: Variable, up to 16 miles
Weather: Hiking is not permitted when the river is high from runoff or flash flooding. Runoff mostly occurs in April and early May. Late summer thunderstorms occasionally produce flooding. Check at the visitor center for current conditions. Hiking is usually very pleasant during summer and fall. Few people hike during winter and spring, when the water is cold, but some go in wearing wet or dry suits.

The Narrows
The Virgin River has carved a spectacular gorge in the upper reaches of Zion Canyon: 16 miles long, up to 2,000-feet deep, and at times only 20 to 30-feet wide. The Narrows, with its soaring walls, sandstone grottos, natural springs, and hanging gardens can be an unforgettable wilderness experience. However, it is not a hike to be underestimated.
Hiking The Narrows means hiking in the Virgin River. At least 60 percent of the hike is spent wading, walking, and sometimes swimming in the river. There is no maintained trail because the route is the river. The current is swift, the water is cold, and the rocks underfoot are slippery.
Flash flooding and hypothermia are constant dangers. Good planning, proper equipment, and sound judgment are essential for a safe and successful trip. Your safety is your responsibility.
A permit is required for the 16-mile top-down hike through The Narrows. A permit is not required for hiking The Narrows from the bottom up.
Zion National Park is located in the Southwestern United States, near Springdale, Utah. A prominent feature of the 229-square-mile (590 km2) park is Zion Canyon, which is 15 miles (24 km) long and up to half a mile (800 m) deep, cut through the reddish and tan-colored Navajo Sandstone by the North Fork of the Virgin River. The lowest elevation is 3,666 ft (1,117 m) at Coalpits Wash and the highest elevation is 8,726 ft (2,660 m) at Horse Ranch Mountain. Located at the junction of the Colorado Plateau, Great Basin, and Mojave Desert regions, the park's unique geography and variety of life zones allow for unusual plant and animal diversity. Numerous plant species as well as 289 species of birds, 75 mammals (including 19 species of bat), and 32 reptiles inhabit the park's four life zones: desert, riparian, woodland, and coniferous forest. Zion National Park includes mountains, canyons, buttes, mesas, monoliths, rivers, slot canyons, and natural arches.
Human habitation of the area started about 8,000 years ago with small family groups of Native Americans; the semi-nomadic Basketmaker Anasazi (300 CE) stem from one of these groups. In turn, the Virgin Anasazi culture (500 CE) developed as the Basketmakers settled in permanent communities.[4] A different group, the Parowan Fremont, lived in the area as well. Both groups moved away by 1300 and were replaced by the Parrusits and several other Southern Paiute subtribes. Mormons came into the area in 1858 and settled there in the early 1860s. In 1909, U.S. President William Howard Taft named the area a National Monument to protect the canyon, under the name of Mukuntuweap National Monument. In 1918, however, the acting director of the newly created National Park Service changed the park's name to Zion. According to historian Hal Rothman, The name change played to a prevalent bias of the time. Many believed that Spanish and Indian names would deter visitors who, if they could not pronounce the name of a place, might not bother to visit it. The new name, Zion, had greater appeal to an ethnocentric audience. [5] The United States Congress established the monument as a National Park on November 19, 1919. The Kolob section was proclaimed a separate Zion National Monument in 1937, but was incorporated into the park in 1956.
The geology of the Zion and Kolob canyons area includes 9 formations that together represent 150 million years of mostly Mesozoic-aged sedimentation. At various periods in that time warm, shallow seas, streams, ponds and lakes, vast deserts, and dry near-shore environments covered the area. Uplift associated with the creation of the Colorado Plateaus lifted the region 10,000 feet (3,000 m) starting 13 million years ago.[6]
Situated in the southwestern corner of Utah near the Nevada and Arizona borders, Zion National Park is a convenient stop for those visiting Salt Lake City, Las Vegas or Grand Canyon National Park. Accessible from State Route 9 or Interstate 15, Zion offers visitors a variety of activities across several geographic regions. It started out as Mukuntuweap National Monument in 1909, but was granted national park status by the U.S. Congress in 1919.
The highlight of Zion National Park is an expansive canyon. Averaging 2,000 feet deep, Zion Canyon offers hiking opportunities along its floor in the 20 to 30 foot wide area known as The Narrows and the challenging area known as The Subway. Swimming is also permitted in this area of the Virgin River.
Other spectacular features of Zion include natural rock arches. Two of the most prominent are the Crawford and Kolob. One thousand feet above the canyon floor, Crawford Arch can be seen from the patio of the park's Human History Museum. Kolob Arch is visible by those hiking within the area of the park's Kolob Canyon. Other stone arches at Zion include Double Pine, Jughandle, Chinle Trail, and Hidden Arch.

Hiking the Narrows In Zion National Park
In today's video, we head into Zion to hike the Narrows. We didn't expect it to still be this crowded on a Thursday in October though! So we didn't have quite as much time to hike as we thought and didn't make it all the way to Wall St. Next time! Even so, this is one of our favorite hikes off time!

Recently visited Zion again, and decided to make another video, this time in high quality 4K: The Angels Landing hike (with its amazing vistas) & The Virgin Narrows, hiking in the cold river from the Temple of Sinawava, up the river, pass the Orderville Canyon.

Chrisitan playing in the water..This section of the virgin river is where you ride the shuttle bus up to the end and then walk along the river about a mile or so till the trail ends. That is where people begin walking in the water to hike the narrows The narrows is a deep sandstone canyon with sheer rock walls. The Virgin river is what cut the canyon--the canyon itself is of course---the center of Zion national park. The famous angels landing--considered the most scary hike in the United States is DIRECTLY ABOVE US in the videos. We are in the bottom of the canyon--angels landing you hike up and are LOOKING DOWN into the canyon. (alot of good info there)

If time is limited and I can only do one thing is Zion National Park it will be walking or hiking the Narrows in Zion National Park (notice how I manage to get Zion National Park in there so many times for SEO LOL haha there I did it again =). It's considered one of the absolute best trails in the world and it's a hike nearly anyone can enjoy.

The park was established on November 19, 1919 (That's a lot of 19's)
In 1920, Zion National Park had 3,692 visitors. In 2017, the park had 4.5 million visitors.
The park is open all through the year, but the peak time is from April to October.
The fall and mild spring temperatures are perfect for hiking. That being said being from las Vegas Summer temperatures are always cooler than we experience. I have enjoyed this park in all kinds of weather and times, from show to lightning and thunderstorms which is spectacular to hear the rumble through the canyon and see unbelievable waterfalls. the other perks to going off-season are that you have far fewer people in the park and can drive in the park that is only seen via the tram in the main visiting season.
The wonders of Zion National Park include, but are not limited to: mountains, canyons, mesas, monoliths, rivers, slot canyons, and natural arches. plus you have to check out the 1.1-mile tunnel Zion-Mount Carmel Highway At the time of its completion it was the longest non-urban road tunnel in the United States and features six large windows cut through the massive sandstone cliff.

Getting In:
Zion is located in the Southwest corner of Utah.
The closest major airports are:
150 miles from Las Vegas
Or 300 Miles from Salt Lake City
The driving time that’s about 3 hours from Vegas, 4.5 hours from Salt Lake City, or 8 hours from Los Angeles
There’s a couple of other small airports closer by, Saint George is just 49 miles from the park, and Cedar City is 60 miles

My experience hiking the Zion Narrows- Utah, Zion National Park
I found a stick near the entrance of the Narrows and hiked gorgeous slot canyon in Zion National Park. I went about 2 miles in and returned. The water reached my waist at times but there's sections further down that will reach your chest. Very crowded on this summer day.

For our fifth and final of Utah's Mighty five national parks, we are hiking The Narrows, in Zion National Park!
This gorge, with walls a thousand feet tall and the river sometimes just twenty to thirty feet wide, is one of the most popular areas in Zion National Park.
This hike was 10 miles round trip and took several hours.
