I'm told that in the original sketch, Marge was serving Homer a beer on the hammock. Someone decided that wasn't progressive enough, so they made Marge painting an idealized portrait of Homie with muscles drinking wine.

The city of Springfield unveiled the official Simpsons mural Monday.

This is a painted mural of America's most beloved animated TV family, The Simpsons. The mural is located on the side of a building at 5th and Main in downtown Springfield, the namesake of the Simpsons' hometown, as said by Matt Groening.
The Simpsons call Springfield, Oregon home
The debate over which city of Springfield in the country is the true setting for the TV show The Simpsons has finally been settled once and for all.
Show creator Matt Groening, who grew up in Oregon, has teamed with the our City of Springfield to create a mural of the TV show’s characters on the side of the Emerald Arts Center on Fifth Street between Main and A streets in downtown Springfield.
A team from Old City Artists and a vice-president from Fox Broadcasting Company have been working long days since Thursday to bring Groening’s vision to fruition.
Watch as the dream of a Simpsons Mural in Springfield, Oregon becomes a reality.
The city will unveil the mural during a community event Monday August 25, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. Yeardley Smith, who has won an Emmy as the voice of Lisa Simpson, will attend to sign autographs and answer questions. Julius Preite, who created the artwork, also will attend.

Demonstrators gathered outside the city halls of Springfield and Holyoke Monday to draw attention to a variety of issues.

June 24, 2010 - Meet Dan Cohen, one of the country's most prominent large-scale mural painter and fine art sculptor. Scenes and interviews from recent projects, including the recently completed mural of a wetland landscape mural on Wilhelm's Memorial Funeral Home in SE Portland.

The Portland Memorial Mausoleum Mural was created as an expansion of the existing Great Blue Heron Mural on the lower west facing wall of the Mausoleum, also applied by ArtFX. The expanded mural covers eight surfaces totaling approximately 43,485 square feet, and is estimated to be the largest mural in the United States. Seen clearly from the OMSI Springwater Trail and I-5, the mural highlights the importance of the 160-acre Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge to the city of Portland's quality of life, the contribution of the wetland system as a critical element of the city's green infrastructure, and its contribution to maintaining biodiversity in the city and metropolitan area.
