Bristol Cinemas: Magic Of The Movies
This is an excerpt of a DVD produced by 1st Take. The complete film is available to order at 1st-take.com or by calling 01454 321614. Do you remember those far-off days when a visit to the Cinema was a really special occasion?
This souvenir documentary recreates an era when picture houses provided a magical escape from the daily struggle. A time when it was considered sinful to leave the auditorium without showing respect to the National Anthem. A time when Bristol had more cinemas than any other city in the country apart from London.
Join cinema historian Bill Knight on a nostalgic tour and re-discover some of your favourite haunts of days gone by.
The recollections of projectionists, usherettes and cinemagoers complement some fascinating old photographs, interspersed with Pearl and Dean advertisements from the 1960s and 1970s. The story is brought right up to date with the multiplexes of the 21st Century.

Bristol's Waterfront. Bristol, England, UK.
It's the start of another adventure for Imo and Izzy. We start by heading for Bristol Temple Meads Rail Station and take a leisurely stroll along the beautiful and fascinating Bristol Harbour Waterfront. There's lots to see, including Imo's favourite crane!
This is one of those vlogs that got split into two as it was such a long day with so much to see. There will be a subsequent vlog all about our experience in the science museum - We The Curious (formerly knows as @Bristol). Look out for that one!
We had a fantastic day. Thank you so much for joining us.

Here's a Wiki link if you'd like to find out more about this history of this beautiful harbour area:

I'm Imo and she's Izzy. We love getting out and about and exploring South Wales and beyond.
We're a home-schooling/home-educating family of two based in the UK dealing with the daily challenges of managing Izzy's severe, chronic eczema and her education. Our resourcefulness is tested on a daily basis but we'd love to share our little triumphs and discoveries with you as we go along.
I will always write closed captions in UK English for my vlogs, not only to make them more accessible in general but also to create a useful resource for advanced learners of the English language who may enjoy regular bursts of pseudo-immersion in English in a narrative context with the additional benefit of corresponding on-screen text.
These videos will not generally feature background music making them extra suitable for people who aren't keen on pop music! x

I Am Bristol – a short film about our city
Welcome to Bristol, a magical poetical city filled with wonder, excitement and extraordinary difference. Rural, urban, independent, soulful, musical, playful -- this is our city. And this is our love letter to that city.
Responding to Mark Cousins' excellent recent documentary, 'I Am Belfast', 'I Am Bristol' seeks to explores the people who live here, who move here, who were born here, what inspires us and where we tread.
The film was made by Rife Magazine's young content creators and a group of young filmmakers. The spoken word piece is written and performed by Ailsa Fineron and Aisha Sanyang-Meek, and the acclaimed documentary maker, Michael Jenkins (8th Sense Media), mentored a group of young filmmakers to capture their Bristol.
Tell us about your Bristol in the comments below. Say it with us, together, unified, as one city... 'I Am Bristol'.

CineMe Judas Ghost Trailer
A new trailer for the supernatural horror film Judas Ghost to promote a one-off screening on August 13th (2015), at the Orpheus Cinema Henleaze, Bristol. Advance tickets available at
Judas Ghost is based on the Ghost Finders novels by New York Times best-selling author Simon R. Green. The film has won a number of awards, including Best Horror Film at the London Independent Film Festival. It was described as a “stylish, non-stop shocker” by Brave New Hollywood.
Judas Ghost follows an elite team of ghost finders, who are dispatched to investigate signs of the supernatural at an old village hall. What at first seems to be a standard haunting soon becomes far worse, when they are forced to face something far more sinister than they anticipated. The hall harbours a dark secret, and the team must use every trick they know to get out alive.
The film stars Martin Delaney (Zero Dark Thirty and Flags of Our Fathers), Simon Merrells (The Wolfman and Spartacus: War of the Damned) and Lucy Cudden (Chemical Wedding and TV series Afterlife).
The film’s official trailer can be viewed via YouTube ( and more info can be found at
