Snow! - Severn Valley's Spring Steam Gala conquers 'Beast from the East' - Sunday 18th March 2018

For the 5th year in a row we made what is now becoming our annual visit to the Severn Valley for their Spring Steam Gala. Once again staying in the Premier Inn in Weavers Wharf Kidderminster, this time Friday and Saturday night and spending Friday and Sunday filming and Saturday largely travelling.
This year's gala was all about two things, the mini 'Beast from the East two' (more on that later) and the visiting engines with six in all. Starring were A1 no.60163 'Tornado', 7f no.53808 (who replaced B1 no.1264 at late notice), King no.6023 'King Edward II, B12 no.8572, Std 4 no.80072 and Haydock Foundry's 'Bellerophon'. The timetable was a more simple affair than previous years, with full line services every 55 minutes to make the most out of the big stars, supplemented by regular Kidderminster to Bewdley shuttles predominately with 'Bellerophon'. Home fleet 14xx no.1450, 15xx no.1501 and Pannier Tank no.7714 also assisted throughout the gala and Ivatt Class 4 no.43106 was spare loco at Bewdley.
The 'Beast from the East two' hit the line on Saturday, after a lovely spring day on the Friday. Bitter winds and snow blizzards Saturday turning to a full winter wonderland of deep lying snow for the Sunday, all making anything but being inside a nice, warm carriage difficult!
Sunday's original plan was to do Northwood Lane at Bewdley line side in the morning before moving onto my favorite station, Hampton Loade for the afternoon. But upon seeing several inches of snow that changed! I made my way carefully over to Northwood Lane as planned in the morning and was eventually rewarded with shots of four of the first five trains of the day, all heavily delayed trains due to frozen points. However for the afternoon we just spent an hour or so at Kidderminster before having to leave to ensure we got home! All in all though it was a thoroughly enjoyable three days at the gala, many thanks to everyone involved in bringing the event together!

Abandoned Roman Baths Kinver Old Signatures Part 2
T.Woodwin 1936 Anock Ped Doug Forever just some of the pencil signatures adoring the Victorian folly at Kinvers Roman Baths , an ancient site where possible The Roman Empire build a bath house of some sort , there are very old blocks and Roman bricks mixed with the later Victorian build which the famous engineer James Brindley brother whom owned Brindley Hall just up the way built for his children , so I'm lead to believe . Abandoned for a very very long time the place is mysterious , yesterday I found a very old photograph on eBay from here somewhere around 1920-1940 , I'd say somewhere in the middle , the first part to this film contains the slide .

Big News - The Enterprise Zone project will look to rejuvenate Brierley Hill's Economy
28th July 2016. Thousands of new jobs and around £600 million per year, that's what could be set to be injected into the economy of Brierley Hill.
It's all part of its new business and innovation Enterprise Zone project which will see the rejuvenation of the Waterfront office complex at Merry Hill, amongst other things.
The zone will go by the strapline of ‘Made in the Black Country, sold around the world’. Roshni Patel has been speaking to the council's cabinet member for planning and economic development.
