CCTV: Raiders target Market Harborough pub
The Royalist pub has released to footage to Hfm in the hope anyone who recognises the raiders contacts Police. They spent 40 minutes on the roof of the premises in Western Avenue from 7.20pm on Friday January 25th, using a crow-bar to try to force open windows to the living accommodation. They are seen posing for a 'selfie' towards the end of the footage & fled when a customer noticed them and raised the alarm.
Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire, UK
Ashby is a word of Anglo-Danish origin, meaning Ash-tree farm or Ash-tree settlement. The Norman French addition dates from the years after the Norman conquest of England, when the town became a possession of the La Zouche family during the reign of Henry III.
Ashby de la Zouch Castle was built in the 12th century. The town and castle came into the possession of the Hastings family in 1464 and William Hastings, 1st Baron Hastings enhanced its fortifications from 1473. In the Civil War the town was one of the Royalists' chief garrisons under the control of Colonel Henry Hastings, 1st Baron Loughborough and commander of the North Midlands Army. When the town fell after a long siege in March, 1646 it was counted a great relief to the surrounding towns and villages.
Many of the buildings in Market Street, the town's main thoroughfare, are timber framed, but most of this is hidden by later brick facades. The Bull's Head public house retains its original Elizabethan half-timbering although most of this was plastered over some years ago and can now no longer be seen from the street. A short distance further down Market Street is a shop, currently occupied as a LOROS Charity Shop, which does retain its original Elizabethan timbers in full street view. There are also Regency buildings in this street. Bath Street has a row of Classical-style houses called Rawdon Terrace dating from the time that the town was a spa in the 1820s.
The local upper school, Ashby School, previously Ashby Grammar School, is a mixed comprehensive school for 14 to 18-year-olds that was founded in 1567. There were formerly two other endowed boys' schools of 18th century foundation.
A local high school, Ivanhoe College, for 11 to 14-year-old children, is named after the historical novel Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott which was set in the area of the castle. In Scott's novel the town hosts an important archery competition held by Prince John, in which Robin Hood competes and wins.
THE BATTLE OF EDGEHILL
After months of rising tension, the English Civil War finally exploded into life on the slopes of Edgehill on October 23rd 1642. It was to be a confused and bitter business, marked by the foolishness of Prince Rupert and the Royalist cavalry, who left the field at a crucial stage of the battle. As darkness fell nearly 3000 men lay dead and the die was cast: the English Civil War would be no short and decisive affair. Featuring exciting and authentic battle reconstructions, plus footage of the battlefield as it is today, 'The Battle of Edgehill' is a fascinating and powerful account of the encounter which set the brutal tone of the entire English Civil War. This authoritative programme also features period imagery and expert battle analysis. Narrated by Mike Leighton.

THE BATTLE OF MARSTON MOOR - THE SCOTS MARCH SOUTH
The Battle of Marston Moor on July 2nd 1644 was one of the most important of the entire English Civil War. It was here that a force of some 27,000 Parliamentarian and Scottish troops routed an army of just 18,000 Royalists. Crucially the Royalist stronghold of York was lost and King Charles' cause in the north virtually collapsed. It was a defeat from which the King would never recover. Featuring spectacular battle reconstruction footage and dramatised 'eye-witness' accounts, this DVD tells the powerful story of one of English history's greatest military engagements. Narrated by Terry Molloy.

THE ENGLISH CIVIL WAR - A PEOPLE DIVIDED
It was a time of great bitterness and hatred in Britain - a war that set father against son and brother against brother. The breakdown in relations between a Parliament with a strong purpose and a King who believed in his divine right to rule set the scene for a series of brutal battles that were truly a struggle for the soul of a nation. The outcome of the English Civil War shaped the course of the nation's history and laid the foundations of the country as it is today.
The first episode of 'The English Civil War' takes an in-depth look at the years between King Charles' accession to the throne and the opening conflict of the war in 1642 - the Battle of Edgehill. The programme delves into the complex web of political, social, religious and military issues that were the root causes of the war.

#18 Yet Another Overheating Engine
In this vlog 'Yet Another Overheating Engine' you join us on our journey from Bridge 56 on the Grand Union Canal Leicester Line as we head North towards Foxton Locks. During our journey, we describe what we did to our canal boat engine to attempt to fix the issue we had on Easter Sunday, which saw our Easter Cruise cut short. Easter Monday was a day of maintenance on the engine, we talk through (and show with some pictures) the parts of the engine we dismantle in our fault finding and resolution attempt.
**Disclaimer - We are not mechanics. The troubleshooting list that we used to work out what could possibly be wrong with our engine was as published in the engine manual over 10 years ago and for our boat's engine. This vlog should not be used as a guide to fix your own engine overheating issues. No cuddly toys were harmed in the making of this vlog.
