Educating for Innovation: Dr. Jules Bruck and Dr. Tony Middlebrook at TEDxUD
Jules Bruck earned a Master's degree in horticulture and landscape design before going on to earn a Ph.D. in Leadership from Texas A&M University. These seemingly unrelated fields of study have a common thread in a process-based approach, which has enhanced Jules' work as a professional landscape designer and Assistant Professor of Landscape Design at the University of Delaware.
Jules' team-based approach to design incorporates the charette as a way to engage multiple voices in the process. One of Jules' most notable achievements is the design of the National Conifer Garden at Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College.
Tony Middlebrooks does not know better than you, he knows differently.
As an Associate Professor in the Organizational and Community
Leadership Program in the School of Public Policy and Administration
at the University of Delaware, Tony designs learning experiences to
develop the leadership and creative capacity of students. Former camp
counselor and director, school-age program developer, non-profit
director, doctoral program developer, consultant, workshop
facilitator, strategic planner, designer, and professor of leadership,
innovation, and research methods, Tony has worked with students age 5
to 65...none of which are as challenging or interesting as the role of
dad! His current interests focus on the integration of creativity and
design with leadership. Tony has a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology
from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
