Sherlock Holmes Pub (1958)
Northumberland St., London.
M/S of several couples dining in a pub restaurant. An elderly waitress is serving dessert. The narrator comments that it would take a lot to put the sober English off their food - even the presence of a corpse a couple of feet away. C/U of a respectable woman drinking red wine.
M/S of a corner of the restaurant filled with Victorian furniture, test tubes, bottles of chemicals and a corpse - a bullet holed decoy bust of Sherlock Holmes. C/U of decoy bust.
C/U of Lloyd Taylor's hand placing a cigar case and a curved pipe on an ornately covered table. The items are part of a collection of relics from the famous cases of Holmes housed in the recently renamed Sherlock Holmes Pub (previously the Old Northumberland Arms). M/S of Mr. Taylor, the man responsible for the collection, picking up and reading an old issue of the Pall Mall Gazette. C/U of newspaper in Mr. T.'s hands. The newspaper is the Diamond Jubilee edition, dated the 19th of June 1897 and has a photograph of Queen Victoria on the front. The collection is assembled to resemble Holmes' study. The narrator reveals that the pub was built on the site of the Old Northumberland Hotel, once frequented by Holmes and Watson and is only a stone's throw from Scotland Yard.
M/S of Mr. T standing in front of the fireplace. Mr T. is fiddling with ornaments on the mantelpiece, including a photograph of Irene Adler - to Holmes always the woman. A panning shot reveals a bent poker beside the fireplace and a Persian slipper where Holmes stored his tobacco. The tongue-in-cheek tone of the narrator implies these items belong to a real person and not a fictional character.
M/S of Mr. T. rearranging the decoy bust before sitting down to a tray of half eaten tea. The narrator explains that Mr. T. formed the collection with the help of the Conan-Doyle family. M/S of marble bust, possibly of Holmes. The narrator comments that if Holmes was alive, as some rumours suggest, he would find a home to return to - even if it isn't exactly private. M/S of deerstalker, tweed coat, doctor's stethoscope and top hat hanging on the back of a door. A panning shot reveals the close proximity of the collection to the diners eating in the restaurant.

Travel London, United Kingdom - British Pubs
Experience what it's like in a typical British Pub.
There are pubs around every corner in London, most of them with illustrious history. We are going to the Blue Posts Pub located in Central London. The image of a traditional British pub has not changed much over the years: the wooden interior, the fireplace and a warm, cozy, homely atmosphere.
If you are a literature buff, you will think you have been to the Dickensian or a Shakespearean world. The pub is actually an abbreviation of the term public house. The word was coined during Victorian times, but the concept has been around since the Romans and their taverns.
I am Gabby and I work as a barmaid here. First I would say the atmosphere because most of the British pubs, they are very old, so the interior is quite old. So, that is what the difference is between the more modern bars and the British pub.
Pubs were meeting places for professionals and artists alike. We do not do food, and the drink, that would be the bitters, the real ales. I am Peter Halpin, showing you London.

The Sherlock Holmes Pub
20/9/09 - Yes, I found a pub called The Sherlock Holmes. Went there for dinner my last night there. Food wasn't bad - but the waitress got my order wrong and decided to take it out on me. Man...some people. But I didn't let her ruin my night! I got to meet John Barrowman later!
