U.S. Senate: Impeachment Trial (Day 9)
The Senate impeachment trial of President Trump continues as Senators ask House impeachment managers and the President’s defense team questions.
Impeachment trial of President Trump | Jan. 29, 2020 (FULL LIVE STREAM)
House impeachment managers and President Trump’s lawyers have concluded their opening arguments in the Senate. The impeachment trial moves into the question period for both sides on Jan. 29, when senators submit questions in writing to Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. The chief justice will read questions out loud, alternating between the majority and minority for up to eight hours.
Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Impeachment does not mean that the president has been removed from office. In the next phase, the Senate must hold a trial to make that determination. A Senate impeachment trial has happened only two other times in American history and once in the modern era. At the center of the Democrats’ case is that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son.

Trump Impeachment Trial: Q&A begins (Day 8)
With opening arguments wrapped up in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, the next phase begins. For the next two days, senators get to ask questions of both legal teams. During that time, people will be looking for signs of whether enough Republicans will cross the aisle and agree to bring in witnesses -- particularly former national security adviser John Bolton.

GOOD MORNING AMERICA'S HOMEPAGE:
10 Dumbest Criminals Caught On Camera
Here are 10 of the sloppiest criminals ever caught on camera.
It’s said that planning and executing the perfect crime involves a great deal of time, effort, and smarts. Perhaps that’s why some prefer to just wing it.
Here are 10 of the sloppiest criminals ever caught on camera.
Number 10. Beer bandits. The duo started off by grabbing 72 cans of beer from a convenience store cooler. Their first obstacle was a locked door, which they were eventually able to kick open. One robber slipped and fell just outside the building. Finally, having dropped or put down most of their loot, they just grabbed as much brew as they could and took off in a 1996 Honda.
Number 9. Concealing Identities. Two men decided to duck into an alley in London to disguise themselves before trying to commit an armed robbery. The spot they chose was outfitted with a surveillance camera that caught both their outfit changes and faces.
Number 8. Art thief. A man was trying to steal a painting from a gallery, but had some trouble concealing it in his hoodie. When he wasn’t able to cram the work inside the sweatshirt, he decided to just tuck it under his arm. Staff noticed and upon being confronted, the flustered robber dumped the painting and fled.
Number 7. Tip jar robber. It likely wasn’t this individual’s intention to work for tips, but that’s what he ended up with. The criminal held a store clerk at knife point and demanded all of the money in the register. When he was told there wasn’t any, he just grabbed the jar full of gratuities and left.
Number 6. Not so covert operators. They tried to be sneaky by staying low to the ground. One of them even hid behind the counter of a pizza joint while grabbing cash out of the till. Little did he know there was a security camera pointed straight at him, recording the whole thing as it went down.
Number 5. Clear plastic bag burglar. It’s said his decision to rob a gas station was fueled by alcohol and prescription drugs, so it’s not entirely surprising that he decided a clear grocery bag would work nicely as a disguise. He was eventually caught and sentenced to two years of jail time.
Number 4. Concealing a chain saw. The tools make chopping up wood an easy job, but can seriously make a robbery complicated. Hoping to sneak one past store workers, a Florida man shoved it down his pants. He ditched the saw during a chase, but was caught when he went back to retrieve it.
Number 3. Wheelchair getaway. A West Virginia man was caught on camera walking the aisles of a closed liquor store, filling up on merchandise and cash along the way. He then got away from the scene on a motorized wheelchair. He was arrested and the chair was towed to an area garage.
Number 2. Tong-wielding robber. A man in Arkansas attempted a hold up at a convenience market. His weapon was a pair of hot dog tongs he’d picked up from the store’s food counter. The male was taken into custody and even though he wrote an apology letter, faced 2 counts of attempted aggravated robbery.
Number 1. Wedding crasher. Brides and grooms are given a lot of really nice gifts, and a thief in Connecticut decided to dip into one couple’s haul. The robber hit a reception and made off with an envelope-filled birdcage. The container was later recovered, but by then it was empty. Thankfully, the venue’s camera got a clear shot of him.
Which robbery do you think was the biggest fiasco?

Around the Corner with John McGivern | Program | Sparta (#804)
[Original Airdate: January 24, 2019]
It’s true that Sparta Wisconsin is the bicycling capital of America, but we found lots of things happening here: soldiers marching, shovelmen building, luthiers crafting, quilters quilting, and, of course, bikers biking. Yes, Sparta likes active people and companies: Fast Eddie and FAST Corp fit right in, and so does John Gurda because he is the real life version of Ben Bikin. After all, John G. has literally been bikin’ all over Wisconsin! John McGivern is more like Ben’s friend, Willbee Ridin… As in, he will be ridin’ in his car back to Sparta because he’s coming for a longer visit!

Retailers CLOSING in 2019!
The shopping landscape has changed in the recent decade. The “Retail Apocalypse” began in 2010 and since then many North American retail stores have struggled to stay above water. Over 12,000 physical stores are gone. Here are some of the companies that couldn’t survive the catastrophe.

9. Family Dollar
In 2015, Dollar Tree bought the Family Dollar chain for $8.5 million, which. Last year, Dollar Tree already axed 120 locations. As of now, 390 more Family Dollar locations will close, and 200 more will be converted into Dollar Tree stores. The thousand remaining stores are scheduled for renovations and will include alcohol sections and Dollar Tree merchandise. Some people believe that Dollar Tree should have never bought Family Dollar because the two companies were too different. However, Dollar Tree earned nearly $22 billion last year, so maybe something’s going right.
8. The Children’s Place
Where are parents of small children going to buy clothes now that Gymboree and The Children’s Place are going out of business? The retailer plans to close 300 stores by 2020. So far, they have about 100 more to go before they reach that goal. Currently, they have 988 locations, though they began their downsizing initiative back in 2013. Luckily, The Children’s Place isn’t in deep water when it comes to losing sales. If anything, their sales are steady, but they still want to cut costs to remain profitable.
7. Chico’s
Chico’s used to rule the market when it came to selling clothes to the middle-aged women. Chico’s also owns similar brands like Soma and White House Black Market, which have also seen a decrease in sales. At the start of January 2019, Chico’s said they were closing 250 stores in the next three years. They explained they wanted to have a more prominent presence online and do away with the more out-dated aspects of the brand.
6. J. Crew
Preppy fashions have seen a dip in popularity in the past decade. If you look back to the 2000s, a preppy clothing brand like J. Crew was at the top of the profit charts. Now? Not so much. J. Crew has closed six stores throughout the US for 2019. That doesn’t seem like a huge loss, but they already shuttered 50 stores last year. J. Crew’s CEO Jim Brett stepped down in 2018, and now four new executives are trying to lead J. Crew back to the top. At least the J.Crew-owned brand, Madewell, is still trending.
5. Ascena Retail Group
Ascena Retail Group owns brands like Lane Bryant, Ann Taylor, and Justice. These places adhere to different demographics of females, yet Ascena can’t seem to make their business work as well as they want. They own almost 5,000 apparel stores in the US, making it one of the most spread-out companies on this list. In 2017, the retail group planned to close up to 667 stores for the next 2 years. As of now, Ascena closed 31 stores and is on track to close more.
4. Charlotte Russe
Charlotte Russe is like Forever21 but not as well-received. This fast-fashion chain was founded in the 70s. As of March, they will liquidate all of their stores. Earlier this year, Charlotte Russe filed for bankruptcy and only wanted to close 94 of its 512 stores. Their strategy was to use bankruptcy as a way to eliminate their debts and hope another company would buy them to stay in business. However, liquidating company, SB360 Capital Partners won Charlotte Russe in a bankruptcy court auction for $160 million and prompted for the company to shut down.
3. Gap
Remember the days when shopping at Gap was all the rage? However, the youth is now opting for more affordable, on-trend stores like H&M and Forever 21. The Gap is closing their stores little by little and in the next two years have the intent to close up to 230. It’s third-quarter earnings report showed profits declining at 7%. On January 20, 2019, they shuttered their New York flagship store.
2. Payless ShoeSource
Payless served as a supplier of trendy footwear that was reasonably priced. They were famous for their BOGO (buy one, get one) deals, which allowed you to bring home two pairs of shoes for the price of one or one and a half. We must bid Payless goodbye since they could not compete with cheaper online stores. In the past couple of years, Payless has gradually been shuttering stores. In February, they said they were going to close the 2,100 remaining locations in the US and Puerto Rico.

World's Tallest Man Meets World's Shortest Woman
The world's tallest man, Sultan Kosen, has met the world's shortest woman, Jyoti Amge, during an excursion to Egypt's Giza Pyramids. Kosen and Amge were invited by the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Board as part of a campaign hoping to revive the country's tourism industry. It was quite the sight as the two stood next to each other. As Kosen sat down, Amge still only reached the height of his bent knee. InsideEdition.com's Leigh Scheps ( has more.

He describes the abuse of government power by corporations and the efforts by workers to resist those abuses.
Michael Cohen Testimony live before the House Oversight Committee
President Trump's former personal attorney and fixer Michael Cohen had harsh words for his former employer during public testimony before a House congressional panel Wednesday. He is a racist. He is a con man. He is a cheat, Cohen, testifying before the House Oversight Committee, said in his opening statement about Mr. Trump.
Cohen's testimony comes as Washington prepares for a final report from special counsel Robert Mueller's nearly two-year investigation into Russian interference in U.S. elections and possible coordination between Trump campaign associates and the Russian government.
The irony of Cohen's testimony two months before he reports to federal prison for lying to Congress was not lost on lawmakers. I've made it abundantly clear to Mr. Cohen if he comes here today, and he does not tell the truth, I will be the first to refer those untruthful statements to the DOJ, Chairman Elijah Cummings, a Maryland Democrat, said when opening the hearing.
