Halo - Water Vortices in The Shops at Crystals - CityCenter in Las Vegas
Mark Fuller, chief excellence officer of Southern California-based WET, designed the fountains of Bellagio, which debuted in 1998, and renovated the Mirage volcano. In 2009, Fuller and his team of Water Entertainment Technology designers have brought five water features to CityCenter, MGM Mirage’s $8.5 billion development.
Halo is a WET-designed attraction that invites pedestrians to walk among 50 columns of swirling water encapsulated in clear cylinders. It is located in The Shops at Crystals, CityCenter's retail complex.
High-power motors spin the water into vortices, producing a mesmerizing tornado effect. Colored lighting beneath the feature turns the water various shades of blue, green, red and gold.
The cylinders are of various heights and some are sloped. Because the water vortices naturally move to achieve verticality, the sloped enclosures produce unusual twisting patterns.
Twenty of the cylinders are above ground, but 30 are below floor level, giving pedestrians the opportunity to peer down into each vortex. Because the feature is programmed with changing water levels and the motors switch directions, the patterns are constantly in motion.

Las Vegas, CityCenter and Aria
CityCenter is a 16,797,000-square-foot (1,560,500 m2) mixed-use, urban complex on 76 acres (31 ha) located on the Las Vegas Strip.
The project was started by MGM Resorts International; Dubai World became a joint partner during the project's construction phase. It is the largest privately funded construction project in the history of the United States.
As of 2015, the CityCenter branding has been largely retired, with the focus instead on the Aria brand of the development's centerpiece property in names such as the Aria Express (formerly CityCenter Tram) and Aria Art Collection (formerly CityCenter Art Collection).
The project straddles Harmon Avenue and is bordered by (listed clockwise, starting on the east side): Las Vegas Boulevard, the Monte Carlo Resort, I-15, the Bellagio, and The Cosmopolitan Resort & Casino.
It features a 4,000-room hotel and casino (Aria), two 400-room boutique hotels (The Residences at Mandarin Oriental, with 227 residential condo units, and The Harmon Hotel and Spa), a purely residential offering (Veer Towers), a condo-hotel (Vdara Condo-hotel) and a 500,000 sq ft (46,000 m2) retail and entertainment district(the Crystals).
The site was formerly occupied by the Boardwalk Hotel and Casino, the Bellagio employee parking lot, and several standalone commercial structures.
The Boardwalk Casino's mid-rise hotel tower was imploded May 9, 2006. After most of the design process was complete, construction began without an official groundbreaking ceremony in June 2006.
The multi-use project makes extensive use of green technologies, such as using reclaimed water and an on-site power plant. The Mandarin Oriental, Aria, and Vdara all received LEED certification in November 2009.
CityCenter features five water and ice features. These were designed by WET Design, the company responsible for the Bellagio fountain and the Mirage volcano. Three of these features are located at Aria Resort & Casino, Lumina, Focus, and Latisse. The remaining two are located in The Crystals, Halo and Glacia.
Construction of various parts of the site was covered by the TV show Build It Bigger in the episode titled CityCenter, Las Vegas.
The project also includes a 6,900 car parking garage and several support structures including Clark County Fire Station #32.
Siemens designed and built the $100 million 9 MW (12,000 hp) central energy plant to help power, cool, and provide hot water for CityCenter.
The Aria Express (formerly and also known as the CityCenter Tram) is a tram that connects Crystals with the Monte Carlo to the south and the Bellagio to the north. The 2,100-foot (640 m) long elevated track can handle 3,266 passengers per hour in each direction. A fully loaded tram can hold 132 passengers.
CityCenter has amassed one of the larger public art collections in the United States, which is valued at over $40 million USD. Additionally, the Mandarin Oriental has galleries open to the public which feature rotating collections from various artists.
CityCenter is credited with utilizing advanced Mega Project Assurance techniques developed by MGM which resulted in cost savings of over $100 million and enabled CityCenter's completion in 2009 while many other Las Vegas projects were stopped, or abandoned during the Financial Crisis.

How to Shop | Las Vegas
Watch more Las Vegas Travel Guide videos:
My name is Mike Myers. I am the owner of Legion Marketing; my expertise is in nightlife. I believe that I know the best and brightest of everything that's in Las Vegas. I can help you skip the lines, skip the bad spots, basically cut the fat. Shopping in Las Vegas consists of four tiers, ranging from the outlet malls all the way up to the flagship designer stores. The Bells outlet malls in the South end of the strip, about a mile or two pass me all day. It has a good Nike outlet, a good Calvin Klein outlet, and it's a real place to buy Chuck Taylors at the Converse store. And I'll see any reason to pay full price to work out your T-shirts, underwear, and shoes that haven't changed style in 35 years. The next level is your everyday shopping which is done at the Fashion Show Mall. Here you have your Macys, your Bloomingdales, and your Neiman Marcus, and while they do have nice things, you can also find your Forever 21, and your Apple store and your Abercrombie and Fitch, if that's your thing. It's located on the North end of the strip across in the wind and next door to Treasure Island. The mall definitely has the best variety and is the only one with actual department stores in it, vastly different from all the other shopping experiences in Vegas. The next level is the Forum shops in Caesar's Palace and the Mall de Palazzo. The Forum shops are the best laid out in my opinion, but being predominantly one story, it's a bit of height from one end to the other. When you do eventually get to the new edition, the stores over there are really disappointing. The Palazzo is a maze of good shopping and zero waiting because nobody shops here with the exception of the employees of the Palazzo and the Venetian I would guess, just out of sheer convenience. It's high-end and completely empty. Even the Barney's has nobody in it. The final tier is crystals at Aria which looks more like an airplane hangar with huge open spaces and baffling color scheme. It does have some amazing stores, the Tom Ford is gigantic, the Louis Vuitton is three stories. Originally it was said that every store that was being put in there had to be the worldwide flagship, but it then went out of the window after the fall in the economy and the lackluster reception of the City Center.
