Hey guys,
This is Episode 6 of 34 of our road trip across the USA. We traveled to 26 US States and 3 Canadian States over 6 1/2 months. This is where our vlogging journey really began.... We filmed alot, drove alot and Ian edited alot. FYI - We also got way better camera gear in NYC so please bear with us, we promise the quality of the videos gets WAY BETTER! Today we're taken on a tour of Harrisonburg, Virginia.
We spend the afternoon touring around James Madison University. There we found a man touring the country, documenting his mother's (Dorothy Gillespie) body of work. Dr. Kyle Gipson shares important thoughts on the interconnectedness of material science and leadership. Then we head to Fort Harrison for a quick tour of the house which used to be a safe place from Indian raids. Finally, we go shopping at a Mennonite establishment. It's super interesting to see a church that has places to park your horse-drawn carriage (buggy), rather than the standard asphalt parking lots. No cars allowed!!!

Crocker Park North Union Farmer's Market
Since Crocker Park's opening in 2004, we have been privileged to host the North Union Farmers Market, a nonprofit organization that operates certified, producer-only farmers markets. What does certified, producer-only mean you ask? Let us tell you a little bit about it.
The North Union first opened in 1995 and has since functioned to offer Clevelanders and Northeast Ohioans access to healthy, fresh, local produce sold directly to them by farmers. Their mission is to promote the local foods of Northeast Ohio and their environmental, economic and health benefits by connecting certified producers with consumers through their network of markets.
The North Union fulfills this mission by operating several producer-only farmers markets each week, including Crocker Park on Saturdays. Certified, producer-only, simply put, means that each vendor undergoes an onsite farm inspection and application process in order to receive a certification for participation. Therefore, when you come to the North Union Farmers Market, you know you are getting a good product.
Located in the lot across from First Watch at Crocker Park, the farmers market operates every Saturday morning from 9am-1pm showcasing a variety of venders and educating the public on the benefits of eating locally grown food. This year the market started April 16th and will run until November 19th. The North Union Farmers Market is more than just a farmers market, it is a fun way to spend Saturday morning with family and friends and there is always a lot to see!
Crocker Park recently started the Mange Urban Gardening Program and built a special urban garden to be part of the farmers market! The project incorporates a green roof, rainwater collection, and organic compost with product from the garden being donated to the Plant a Row project in conjunction with Master Gardeners. Also beginning shortly, we will be highlighting a new farmer from the farmers market each week here on our blog, so stay tuned! In the meantime check out our video from last weeks farmers market!

Roughly 10,000 stills were taken between June and September 2014 to create this piece.

Animal Experts: Exotic Pet Law Working, But Animals Still Easy to Get
DAYTON -- We've had our fair share of exotic animal problems in Ohio. From the tigers and bears that had to be shot and killed in Zanesville, to the venomous snake that killed a Dayton firefighter a few years ago. Now that they're illegal here and laws are much stricter, we should be seeing less of them. But it turns out exotic animals are fairly easy to acquire.As the Veterinarian explained Right Boot's health problems Sunday night, Tim Harrison sat in the background in dismay.Broke my heart, I realized this guy needs some TLC, said Harrison who's with Outreach for Animals. They advocate for respecting wildlife and the safety of humans. The retired Oakwood Police officer's rescued dozens upon dozens of exotic animals - many of them in Ohio. It was all profiled in a documentary, Elephant in the Living Room.You can buy a cobra, you can buy an alligator but you can't buy common sense, said Harrison who explained that, When people buy these things, they honestly think they're doing the right thing, they think they're saving this animal.The film also exposed just how easy it is to buy animals at auction.A bunch of them out there. They're easy to get, they were legal for a period of time and people think they're still legal. Everybody wants one so why not? Everyone says when they get to big I'll just give them to the zoo but the zoo can't take them.We did a simple search for exotic animals for sale in Ohio -- dozens of web sites come up. One web site sells venomous snakes, all you need to do is contact its owner, get a PayPal address, and enter your credit card information. And a quick look at Craigslist on Wednesday, there is another alligator for sale in Dayton.Thanks in part to Tim, it is illegal to sell or purchase exotic animal in Ohio; and the law is deterring the crime. The auctions are much harder to come by, and people are calling his group to hand over the animals weekly.Take it from a retired police officer, 80 percent of the population will do what the law tells them, so if they're walking with little bobby at the flee market, I want an alligator - you can't it's against the law.Come January 1, 2014, all exotic pet owners who haven't registered their pet with the state risk losing it. Tim thinks he'll be in for a busy year.

This exciting new market is a community-based initiative to promote access to the best local produce, grass-fed meats, bakery goods, and much more!
WHEN: Each Thursday from 4p.m.-8p.m.
WHERE: Cool Spring Park (Lower portion) 10th and Van Buren
Cool Spring Farmers Market will showcase Delaware's best fruits and
veggies grown by local growers: SIW Veggies, Fifer Orchards and Kalmar Farm. Blueberries, peaches (many varieties), sweet corn, raspberries, tomatoes, apples (many varieties), nectarines, plums, squash, peppers, honey, fruit pies, apple cider AND apple cider donuts, cabbage, green beans, onions, cantaloupes, watermelons, potatoes, pears, and fresh cut flowers will be among the assortment of goodies you will find each week!
Big Sky Bakery will provide us with an assortment of fresh breads and sweets, and Lindenhof Farm will provide us with grass-fed meats and poultry (lamb, turkey, chicken, pork and beef!) Local cheese maker M. Fierro Cheese will sell the freshest mozzarella and Italian cheeses, while Hy-Point Dairy will offer ice-cream, fresh eggs, yogurt, milk, humus and more! Papa's Pastry will entice us with their pastries and cookies and offer an assortment of vegan and vegetarian entrees! Union City Grill will be there too boasting fresh pasta, dry-rubs and discount gift cards! Mama's in the Kitchen will satisfy your cravings for fried chicken, fish, shrimp, fries, macaroni and cheese, candied yams, green beans, funnel cake, lemonade and sweet tea! Wild Thyme will be selling fresh cut flowers. And that's just a sampling of what the Cool Spring Farmers Market will have to offer!!!
