Places to see in ( New Orleans - USA ) Jackson Square
Jackson Square is a historic park in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960, for its central role in the city's history, and as the site where in 1803 Louisiana was made United States territory pursuant to the Louisiana Purchase. In 2012 the American Planning Association designated Jackson Square as one of America’s Great Public Spaces.
ackson Square was designed after the famous 17th-century Place des Vosges in Paris, France, by the architect and landscape architect Louis H. Pilié. Jackson Square is roughly the size of a city block. Sculptor Clark Mills' equestrian statue of Andrew Jackson (a recasting of the Washington, D.C., statue), hero of the Battle of New Orleans and seventh U.S. President for whom the former military parade ground was named, was erected in 1856. Iron fences, walkways, benches, and Parisian-style landscaping remain intact from the original design by Micaela Almonester, Baroness de Pontalba, in 1851. She also built the Pontalba Buildings, which flank the old square.
The flagpole, symbolizing the 1803 ceremonial transfers from Spain to France and then from France to the United States, reflects Louisiana's rich colonial history. During the 1930s, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) repainted façades, renovated buildings, and improved landscaping in and around the park. In 1971, the pedestrian zone in the vicinity of Jackson Square was created, when three surrounding streets were closed to vehicular traffic — Chartres, St. Peter, and St. Ann.
In the Reconstruction Era, Jackson Square served as an arsenal. During the insurrection following the disputed 1872 gubernatorial election, in March 1873, it was the site of the Battle of Jackson Square. A several-thousand-man militia under John McEnery, the Democratic claimant to the office of the Governor, defeated the New Orleans militia, seizing control of the state's buildings and armory for a few days. They retreated before the arrival of Federal forces, which temporarily re-established order.
Chartres St., in front of Saint Louis Cathedral, the Presbytère, and the Cabildo, is shared by visitors and artists, musicians, and varied street performers, such as jugglers and magicians. The performers generally work for tips. On the other two sides of the square are the Pontalba Buildings, matching red-brick, block-long, 4‑story buildings built in the 1840s. The ground floors house shops and restaurants; the upper floors are apartments, the oldest continuously-rented apartments in North America.
Diagonally across Decatur Street upriver from Jackson Square is the Jax Brewery building, the original home of a favorite local beer. After the company ceased to operate independently, the building was converted into several businesses, including restaurants and specialty shops. In recent years, some retail space has been converted into luxury condominiums.
Diagonally across Decatur Street downriver from the square is Café du Monde, open 24 hours a day. Part of the historic French Market, it is known for its café au lait, prepared with chicory, and for its beignets, served there continuously since the Civil War days.
Jackson Square has been the site of hundreds of live music events, including the September 9, 2010, Dave Matthews Band and Taylor Swift performance to kick off the 2010 NFL season for the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints.

Jackson Square, New Orleans
Located on Decatur Street, between the Jax Brewery Shopping Mall and the French Market, in front of the St. Louis Cathedral, Jackson Square earns it name for one of three bronze statues of Andrew Jackson located in the center of the square.
The area surrounding Jackson Square contains a mix of commercial and residential property. The Cabildo, the Presbytere (on the opposite side of the Cathedral), and one of the apartment townhouses of the Lower Pontalba Apartments are now state museums. The lower floors of the apartment buildings are shops and restaurants, while the second and third floors are residential apartments.
Jackson Square is also the location of an open-air artist colony, where artists display their work on the outside of the iron fence. Visitors even have the opportunity to see the artists at work and perhaps have their portrait drawn by one of the many talents utilizing Jackson Square as their studio.
Grab coffee and beignets from Cafe du Monde and enjoy breakfast while people watching in the Square.
Jackson Square has been featured in numerous movies, live television network broadcasts, and the New Year's Eve celebration.
If you are in the vicinity of the Convention Center, ride Riverfront Streetcar to the Jackson Square stop. If you are located in other parts of the city, just head for the French Quarter. Danke

We start the day at Fondren Guitar and Patrick the owner gives me a guitar lesson. He taught me how to play a little bit of the blues!
Next we headed to the Barrelhouse to try some craft beers, cocktails and some delicious southern fusion food like their Tuna Poke Nachos which is a nice twist from Japanese and Southern.
We then headed to Babalu restaurant for dinner. This is a mix of Souther fusion food with Spanish food. I had some delicious table side guacamole and the Baba Burger plus a delicious Mississippi craft beer.
Then I hit up Fondren after 5, a block party that takes place every first Thursday of the month. It starts in March through December. Here they have live blues music, craft beers and some bits.
To end the day I headed to Underground 119 to here a blues band and try some more Mississippi food. From Fried Green Beans with Comeback Sauce to Fried Chicken it was very Southern!

How Dollar Stores Really Make Their Money
Every year, dollar stores see higher and higher earnings, but how can a store that seems like it's giving things away turn itself into a multi-billion-dollar enterprise? The answer is simple: that dollar isn't always the great deal it appears to be. Here are their secrets.
Whether times are good or bad, you can still count on people to flock to dollar stores because they have the one thing everyone loves: convenience. Sales for Dollar General are always on the upswing, with the chain seeing an increase of 3.7 percent between 2017 and 2018, regardless of the state of the economy. Take it from Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos, who had this to say about their regular customers:
We have seen no sign of trade out or trade up from our core customers. Even in a good economy, [they are] still looking for value and convenience.
So, basically, no matter how much money people have, they still want something that bigger grocery stores can't give them. Dollar stores are not just convenient because their items are cheaper, but also because there seems to be one on every corner — and that makes them perfect for a quick fill-in trip between your weekly grocery runs. These stores are also typically smaller than the ones in a big chain like Walmart, which means that you can usually get in and out with your emergency bag of dog food, a handful of snacks, or supplies for your kid's art project in just a couple of minutes. The fact that most people are on to this, means dollar stores are always making money — even if customers buy just a few things.
Watch the video to learn how dollar stores really make their money!

A little L-shaped ghetto on the coast
Where the Mississippi ends
And the money flowed in from petroleum
And then left with the Americans
Half the state is toxic
And the other half is under sea
Not like a Republic
No, it feels third world to me
Come down, America
And take a holiday
See Cajun Haiti
Before you let us wash away
If you feel that we're all refugees
With a knife up at your throat
Cuz on the tube we're looting Winn-Dixie
And shooting at each other's boats
Well we ain't all that hostile, cher
When we got enough to eat
Every day's a festival here
Til the waters rise above your feet
Come down, America
And take a holiday
See Cajun Haiti
Before you let us wash away
Cajun Haiti
Dem parlez ces da new Pompeii
Put your hands in the air
and light one up
Guess what?
I ain't pissing in a cup
Every morning I wake up
I chase a Red Cross truck
Hoping it's chicken again
Cuz when you've said please
For MREs
You're not so quick to grin
Unmarked helicopters
And assassins in Jax Brewery
Every time they stop us
Well, it feels third reich to me
Come down, America
And take a holiday
See Cajun Haiti
Before you let us wash away
Cuz someday, this will all be Arkansas Bay
