Belgium: Huy and its Citadel - Hoei en haar citadel
Huy is a municipality of Belgium. It is situated in the Walloon Region and the Province of Liege. Huy lies along the river Meuse, at the mouth of the small river Hoyoux.
The first village originated around the Roman castrum, an early fortress located on the right bank of the River Meuse.
A new fortress was built by the Dutch in 1818 at the same strategic location above the town.
The four 'wonders of Huy' are (in Huy dialect):
- Li Pontia, the bridge over the River Meuse
- Li Rondia, the rose window of the Gothic Notre-Dame Collegiate Church
- Li Bassinia, the 15th-century fountain that stands in the middle of the Grand Place
- Li Tchestia, the 1818 fortress that dominates the city

Cycling[edit]
Huy is home to the finish of the La Flèche Wallonne (English: Walloon Arrow; Dutch: Waalse Pijl), an important 1-day cycling race held midweek in mid-April. The race traverses, and finishes, at the summit of the Mur de Huy (English: Wall of Huy), a climb of about 1 kilometer with an average gradient of 10%, with sections of 20%. Huy has also been used in the Tour de France four times: 1995, 2001, 2006 and 2015.

Huy Trinh, Definer of the Huy Curve, Nutty Movement LegendMeuse. In the latter part of the 17th century, Louis XIV’s wars caused the city to be repeatedly attacked and put to the sword, to the point that the frustrated inhabitants dismantled their own castle, source of their miseries, in 1715.
A new fortress was built by the Dutch in 1818 at the same strategic location above the town. The 19th century was a period of relative prosperity based on the paper and other industries. The decline of heavy industry in the 20th century was felt here, as in other parts of Wallonia. Today, the city has started to prosper again, thanks in part to its tin products and tourist activity.
In 1970 the Tihange Nuclear Power Station was built.
Folklore[edit]
Every seven years, a religious procession takes place in the so-called 'septennial festivities' in commemoration of the end of a drought in 1656. The last one took place on August 15, 2012.

Huy, la ville aux 4 merveilles
Huy est une petite ville de la province de Liège.
Malgré les apparences, Huy renferme un véritable trésor historique, héritage du passé prestigieux de la localité qui fut, au Moyen-Âge, la seconde ville la plus importante de la province de Liège.
Les hutois ont élu, à l'échelle de leur cité, quatre monuments en tant que merveilles.
On trouve tout d'abord, Li Rondia, la rosace située dans la plus haute tour de la Collégiale Notre-Dame, Li Bassinia, cette fontaine médiévale située en plein centre de la Grand-Place, Li Tchestia, l'ancien château de la ville qui fut l'objet de beaucoup de convoitises et enfin Li Pontia, ce pont permettant la traversée de la Meuse depuis des temps relativement anciens.
Ces noms ont comme particularité de se terminer en ia qui est du wallon hutois.

Fort de huy Mars 2018
Le Fort de Huy est une forteresse, construite en 1818, accrochée au bord de la Meuse et qui domine la ville de Huy, dans la province de Liège en Belgique. ll se trouve à l'emplacement de l'ancien Tchestia, une des quatre merveilles de la ville de Huy.
En 1939, des soldats allemands sont internés après avoir franchi la frontière belge. Le 10 mai 1940, ces soldats passent du régime d'internés à celui de prisonniers de guerre3. Le fort est attaqué par les Allemands peu de temps après afin de libérer les prisonniers. Cependant, ces derniers ont déjà été transférés ailleurs. Dès lors, le fort est utilisé par les Allemands comme centre d'internement pour des prisonniers politiques et des otages principalement. Il est sous l'administration de la Wehrmacht et dirigé par le commandant Frimberger4. Plus de 6 500 patriotes dont Guillaume Vermeylen y sont internés. Les motifs des arrestations sont variables : résistance, banditisme, marché noir, réfractaires au travail obligatoire, otages, communisme, grève,...4 On retrouve également différentes nationalités chez les internés. À partir de juillet 1940, des prisonniers anglais, des grévistes français, des russes sont internés à Huy. Environ la moitié des internés sont des otages. Ils encourent le risque d'être exécutés. Mais finalement, aucun d'entre-eux n'est exécuté sur place mais emmenés ailleurs avant leur assassinat. À partir du 22 septembre 1941, le fort de Huy est également utilisé comme camp de transit avant la déportation vers des camps de concentration, principalement Vught et Neuengamme5. À la Libération, le fort est transformé en centre d'internement pour inciviques.
