Hansen has transformed an impressive Danish estate into a comfortable family home, filling it with beautiful furniture and preserving the property’s charm. Today, we're exploring Hessel Manor House close to where my dad lives. More than a hundred years ago, my great granddad worked at the manor house!! It was so fun to see how people used to live, and to walk around in the beautiful forrest close by. We also had a picnic outside on the lawn, and had a super chill day - so fun! :)

Wood plays a dominant role in the home of the Edwards family: Oak paneling in the entryway makes it seem like a walkable sculpture, guiding the eye as if through a tunnel to the outdoor area with a pool.

Ep. 270 - Haunted Castles of Denmark
Denmark is a land that has had people living on it since the Last Ice Age. This gives it an ancient history and while it is not considered a powerful nation today, it once ruled much of Europe with an iron fist. This history contains stories of wars, revolutions, political intrigue, religious conflict, Vikings and one of the oldest monarchies. The Danes are believed to have been in Denmark since 500 AD. The Middle Ages were a great time of power for the Danes and they ruled over England and united with Sweden and Norway. The monarchy of Denmark lasted for centuries and many of these nobles made castles their homes. Voregaard Castle is one of the most well preserved castles dating back to the Renaissance and today is home to a beautiful art collection. The castle also houses a spirit. Kronburg Castle was made famous by Hamlet and has a few ghosts of its own. Dragsholm Castle has been converted into a luxury hotel with a golf course, but it has more than just a reputation for being a nice place to get away to on a holiday. Dragsholm is reputedly the most haunted castle in Denmark. Join me as I share the history and hauntings of the castles of Denmark. The Moment in Oddity features Qin Shi Huang's Tomb and This Month in History features the Sacco and Vanzetti Case.

Abandoned, Derelict Victorian Style Home - Graffiti and Porn Room ????
Another great house we explored in the fall! Chris drives by this beauty a lot and informed me that it's now boarded up. Because of the difference in each room, as well as location, we speculated that this may have been used as a rooming house, rented out to college students. Each bedroom upstairs almost had a tiny apartment feel to them. It was on the market but taken down in 2004.

Beautiful Imaginative Little House Is Located Denmark | Perfect Small House Design
This imaginative little house is located in an allotment garden just twenty minutes by bike from central Copenhagen. The mint-green cottage features a lantern-style roof highlighted by a cupola. An eclectic collection of windows adds to its playful appearance.
Allotment gardens were first established in Denmark in the late 1800s to give city-dwellers a place to grow their own vegetables. The gardeners built tool sheds which, over time, they expanded into huts so that their families could spend weekends and summer vacations there. However as the city grew, the allotment gardens were often developed and the gardeners would have to relocate to new allotments, either moving their huts or dismantling them and rebuilding. As a consequence, allotment huts were typically simple structures built with whatever material was at hand.
In recent decades though, Danish legislators have passed laws protecting allotment gardens, and longer-term leases have given the gardeners more security of tenure. The result has been larger and more elaborate allotment huts, almost rivaling the traditional Danish summerhouse. This fanciful little cottage seems to be taking that trend to an extreme.
At 60 m2 (645 ft2), it is larger than the allotment huts we have previously looked at in Germany and the Netherlands. The cottage’s floor plan takes the form of an octagon with a small wing extending in each compass direction. One of those wings is the entry hall, and another contains the bathroom and a tiny bedroom. The other two are alcoves connected to the central living/dining/kitchen space, with one of those alcoves being used as a bed nook. A small loft over the bed nook provides a third sleeping space.
A wood terrace and brick patio extend the living space into the surrounding garden of fruit trees, flower beds and planter boxes.
The cottage is currently for sale. Please see Lilienhoff for details. Enjoy the photo tour!

Small House Bliss: Garden Cottage In Denmark
This gabled cottage presents a fairly closed appearance to the street with just a few small windows. But around back, large windows and French doors open it up to a sunny brick patio surrounded by a lushly-planted garden.
Those big south-facing windows make the small house quite bright inside. With its open, airy interior and garden views, the cottage feels more like a summerhouse out in the countryside than a suburban dwelling. However it is in fact located in Hellerup, a suburb of Copenhagen.
The ground floor is an open living space that wraps in a U-shape around the bathroom and a small entry hall. A steep flight of stairs accesses the spacious bedroom loft over one end of the living area. The wood floors, vaulted ceiling and exposed beams have been given a whitewash finish, lightening the wood while still allowing the grain to show.
A small second bedroom could easily be created on the main level by enclosing the space currently set up as a home office. Altogether the home has 80 m2 (861 ft2) of floor space.
This cottage is available for vacation rentals through Airbnb.
