A 63 acre complex, the Village at Grand Traverse Commons is one of the coolest places to live, work, and play in Michigan. Brownfield Flip - The Village at Grand Traverse Commons
The Grand Traverse Commons in Traverse City, Michigan was a spooky, abandoned state hospital – like something out of a scary movie. Thanks to state brownfield incentives, the inviting historic buildings, surrounded by hundreds of acres of public parkland, now house restaurants, shops, offices, and condominiums. Financial incentives and technical assistance from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality helped Grand Traverse County clean up and safely reuse this brownfield site.

Now You Know: What's under The Village at Grand Traverse Commons
The old Traverse City State Hospital was established in 1885. In 2000, The Minervini Group LLC started renovating the historic buildings into what is now known as The Village at Grand Traverse Commons. The floor of The Commons is the only thing separating workers and visitors from stepping 127 years back into history.
The Minervini Group is currently developing paid guided tours of the historic site for this fall.
