Winery at La Grange - Virginia
Located just outside of Haymarket, Virginia, the Winery at LaGrange is in a beautiful pastoral setting. The winery is named for its three and a half story La Grange manor house which was built in the 1790s, although the winery itself was started in 2006. Situated about an hour from Washington DC, they get plenty of visitors, and if the crowd during our visit was any indication, the Winery at LaGrange will become another thriving East Coast winery.
Join us as we talk with with general manager Fletcher Henderson, and winemaker Rob Cox about this exciting new project.

VDOT: Diverging Diamond Interchange at I-66/Route 15 in Haymarket
A project to complete the I-66/Route 15 (James Madison Highway) Interchange in Prince William County will include Virginia’s third diverging diamond interchange, or DDI. These morning(shown here) and afternoon video simulations illustrate innovative interchange design and how traffic will flow through it once completed. This innovative interchange design crosses traffic to the left side of the road at one ramp intersection and back to the right side at the next ramp intersection. This allows left turns onto the interstate to be made in a free flow condition. Visit virginiadot.org for more information.

Wine on tap ft. New Kent Winery, #PetainerStories.
New Kent Winery is a picturesque venue at Dombroski Vineyards in the beautiful state of Virginia, where two generations are working together to produce award-winning quality wines.
The winery has partnered with Petainer since early 2019, to gain operational flexibility and expand its distribution networks.
“We were looking for a product that was a keg product but not a steel keg where we would have to chase it back and forth from different entities. So I started looking for a one-way product. We started working with Petainer Keg and I explored all the options in the market and found theirs was the most similar to a standard steel keg which was easier to sell to a client when they are already working with those steel products. (…) So we went with the Petainer Keg products and that really fit our mold the best” says Jake Dombroski, Logistics Operations at New Kent Winery.
This video explains how Petainer kegs have helped the business grow, expand to new markets in export and event facilities whilst protecting the quality of its premium wines.

Impatient minivan driver almost gets killed by Semi, Haymarket, VA
The minivan driver should have come to a complete stop before turning on the red light, which is the law in Virginia.
Instead they not only ran the red, but then attempted to pass the SUV in front of them, causing a semi in the left lane to lock up their brakes and go into the median.
I doubt this person realizes how close they came to dying today.

Ep 293: Afton Mountain Vineyards Proves Why Virginia Wine is So Unique
Virginia, on the east coast of the United States, has much history with grape growing, but not all of it was good. Today, however, exciting producers have mastered their microclimates and are making some of the freshest, most nuanced, terroir-driven wines in the United States.
This week I sit down with Elizabeth Smith of one of the top wineries in this lovely state, Afton Mountain Vineyards. We discuss everything from Virginia history with grape growing, to terroir obsession, to the European flare of the region, and why the wines are so darn good. If you don't know much about VA or you're an obsessive this podcast will be equally fascinating!
Elizabeth and Tony Smith both grew up in Charlottesville and had lifelong ties the Blue Ridge Mountains. After working and raising a family in coastal VA, and even trying their hands at grape growing there (not quite the right terroir!), they decided to move back to their hometown for their second act – winegrowing and making. They bought Afton Mountain Vineyards in 2009 and in this show, Elizabeth shares their story and how they came to make some of the best wine in Virginia.
Elizabeth shares her background and how she went from investment management to property management to winery management (and rocked them all!)
Elizabeth gives us a true education on the Monticello appellation – what matters to quality wine, what is challenging in growing grapes here, and why she and Tony selected the most westerly site in the Monticello AVA to make their elegant wines
We dork out on microclimates, what makes Virginia so unique, and why elevation, and extremely attentive (obsessive) vineyard management is the only way to make great wine in Virginia and why sustainable viticulture is better than organic in a dicey climate like that in the Monticello area.
Elizabeth answers the question: Why does Damien Blanchon, their French winemaker, and so many other French winemakers find themselves in Virginia, and decide to stay (hint: challenge without restriction!)
We talk about the varietals that do well for Afton Mountain (Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, and Albariño for the whites, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Tannat, and Sangiovese for the reds) and the flavors they yield from this land. We have an interesting side bar about how Petit Verdot can really suck if not handled well!
We wrap with Elizabeth talking about how far Virginia wine has come in the last 10 years and a BIG teaser on a project Afton Mountain is starting this fall!
Find out more about Elizabeth and her wines at aftonmountainvineyards.com and come to the Underground Wine Event on 11/9/19 in Washington D.C. to meet her and taste her beautiful wines!

The Washoe Club - Virginia City NV (light anomaly near ceiling)
The Washoe Club - Captured a light anomaly during a group hunt in the upstairs of the Washoe Club, it appeared near the ceiling by some pipes but lost where it went to. And at 0:5 it sounded like a whisper or noise and did not originally notice, but three people turned there heads to the left, like they were reacting to something. Then moments later the light anomaly appears. It is not caused from the infra red light near the door, that IR contamination is moved along with the camera movement.

Rosemary's Vineyard & Winery - La Grange, Tx
The folks here started up this winery about seven years ago. Located along the rolling hills on HWY 71, they are situated just east of the town of La Grange. Owner, Emmett Schulze, started out with some estate grape vines in 2000, but learned by experience what grows well and what doesn't for this area. Most grapes now come from west Texas or the high plains, but they still have a few locally produced, as well. Currently, there are about seven wines for tasting located in the new bigger tasting room. Much better than the smaller one many people may have visited before. They have your traditional Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot plus some nice Muscadines. They have both red and white Muscadine wines that are surprisingly smoother than some others made in Texas. Check out the Lenior, too, as its flavors should be palatable for most red wine drinkers. We think the White Zinfandel is the one you might remember most at this place. It's a very pleasant that is a lightly crisp wine that when chilled would be perfect for those hot days. This is a nice little stop as you're heading back and forth between Austin and Houston, with a country setting just off the highway, inviting you to sit a spell and relax as you enjoy the wines and the pretty scenery. The tasting room has ample space, so feel free to stop in and visit a while.
