Kashi - The Eternal City - Sadhguru
Kashi, “the City of Light” is said to be more than 15,000 years old – the oldest inhabited city in the world. Home to 33 million gods and goddesses, this magnificent city was the beloved abode of Adiyogi Shiva and his wife Parvati, soon after their marriage. The Adiyogi himself established a powerful mandala (a sacred circular geometric pattern) of the city, by consecrating 108 shrines with unique qualities in a certain pattern – which continues to live even today.
In a series of talks, and a walk around the ancient city with Prasoon Joshi – noted lyricist and scriptwriter – Sadhguru elaborates on the science and geometry behind the layout of the city, the rich mythology of the land, and how despite invasions, Kashi has retained its glory and power, drawing millions of people from all over the world every year.

Ganga Aarti Varanasi India *HD* - Holy River Ganges Hindu Worship Ritual
Ganga Aarti Varanasi (Benaras, Kashi), India - The video shows the Hindu religious ritual of worship for the holy river Ganges. The ceremony happens everyday from 6.30 -7.30 pm at Dashashwamedh Ghat on the Ganges river banks. A must watch event while in Varanasi, and is enjoyed by locals and tourists from all over the world.
Dashashwamedh Ghat (दशाश्वमेध घाट) is the main ghat in Varanasi on the Ganges River. It is located close to Vishwanath Temple and is probably the most spectacular ghat. Two Hindu mythologies are associated with it: According to one, Lord Brahma created it to welcome Lord Shiva. According to another legend, Lord Brahma sacrificed ten horses during Dasa -Ashwamedha yajna performed here.
Aarti is said to have descended from the Vedic concept of fire rituals, or homa. In the traditional Aarti ceremony, the flower represents the earth (solidity), the water and accompanying handkerchief correspond with the water element (liquidity), the lamp or candle represents the fire component (heat), the peacock fan conveys the precious quality of air (movement), and the yak-tail fan represents the subtle form of ether (space). The incense represents a purified state of mind, and one's intelligence is offered through the adherence to rules of timing and order of offerings. Thus, one's entire existence and all facets of material creation are symbolically offered to the Lord via the Aarti ceremony. The word may also refer to the traditional Hindu devotional song that is sung during the ritual.
Varanasi is a city on the banks of the Ganges (Ganga) in Uttar Pradesh, 320 kilometres (200 mi) southeast of the state capital, Lucknow. It is the holiest of the seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri) in Hinduism and Jainism, and played an important role in the development of Buddhism. Some Hindus believe that death at Varanasi brings salvation. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Varanasi is also known as the favourite city of the Hindu deity Lord Shiva as it has been mentioned in the Rigveda that this city at older times was known as Kashi or Shiv ki Nagri.

life and death in one breath (INDIA Varanasi)
6 months ago I decided to move to India to follow a feeling I had. To learn to grow and to discover the meaning of life. Becoming a yoga teacher I realised yoga wasn't putting your leg behind your head or doing a headstand! Yoga was a way of life a way to understand yourself and to connect with others! So I made the decision to move to India the mother land of yoga!
It has a been my dream ever since I stated to study yoga to visit Varanasi. I studied the Agori (a hindu holy) and I feel so connected to to them, maybe I was Agoria (hindu holy)in a past life. I still cant believe my dream came true and as I walk the ghats on the river Ganges its even more magical and powerful that I ever could have imagined. For once in my life I found a place that feels like home.

Almost every major religion breeds ascetics; wandering monks who have renounced all earthly possessions, dedicating their lives to the pursuit of spiritual liberation.Their reality is dictated only by the mind, not material objects. Even death is not a fearsome concept, but a passing from the world of illusion.

Kathwala Nepal Temple, Varanasi - Incredible Spiritual India
Nepali Mandir (Hindi: नेपाली मंदिर), also known as (a.k.a. Kanthwala Mandir and Mini Khajuraho) (Kanthwala in Hindi means wooden), is one of the oldest and most famous temples in the holy city of Varanasi. This temple has great religious importance in Hinduism and is dedicated to the Lord Shiva. Constructed in the 19th century A.D by the King of Nepal, the temple is made of terracotta, stone and wood and is replica of the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu.
History
King of Nepal, Rana Bahadur Shah took exile in Varanasi from 1800 to 1804 and titled himself as Swami Nirgunanda. During his exile, he decided to build a replica of Pashupatinath Temple in Varanasi. Construction of the temple commenced during his exile / stay in Varanasi. During the construction, Shah moved back to Nepal. On April 25, 1806, Rana Bahadur Shah was stabbed to death by his stepbrother, Sher Bahadur Shah. His son Girvan Yuddha Bikram Shah Deva completed the project 20 years after the deadline. The land was later transferred to Rana Bahadur Shah by Kashi Naresh in the year 1843. The temple, adjacent area, Lalita Ghat and a dharamshala, belongs to the Nepal government.
Construction
The mandir is made of terracotta, stone and wood and took three decades to complete. The wood is termite proof. It is constructed in Nepali style of architecture and is surrounded by tamarind and ficus religiosa (peepal) trees. The temple has Pagoda style architecture, maily carved out of wood. It has sculptures similar to ones displayed in Khajuraho Group of Monuments and hence it is also called Mini Khajuraho.
Location
Nepali Mandir is located on Lalita ghat in Varanasi. It is 3.8 kilometers South-East of Varanasi Junction railway station and 100 meters South-West of Manikarnika Ghat.

Highlights
Man Mandir Observatory is located at Man Mandir Ghat on the banks of River Ganga, much above the high water level next to the Dashashwamedha Ghat and adjoining the palace of Raja Jai Singh of Jaipur. Compared to the instruments of Jantar Mantar at Jaipur and Delhi, there are few instruments in Varanasi but it has a unique equatorial sundial which is functional and facilitates measurements to be observed and recorded by one person. The palace Man Mahal, popularly known as Man Mandir is located adjacent to the Man Mandir Observatory. Man Mandir Observatory is famous especially for its masonry observatory. Man Mandir Observatory was built in 1737 A.D by Sawai Jai Singh II (1686-1745 AD) who himself was a great astronomer, the founder of Jaipur city and a descendant of Raja Man Singh. Besides inventing a number of instruments, tables and formulae, Sawai Jai Singh II constructed five masonry observatories located at Delhi, Jaipur, Ujjain, Varanasi and Mathura. These are popularly known as Jantar Mantar which is actually supposed to be known as Yantra- Mantra meaning thereby the calculation with the help of instruments. The plan of the observatory in the palace of Man Mahal was prepared by Jagannath, an astronomer and the work was executed by an architect from Jaipur named Sardar Mohan under the supervision of Sadashiva. .Samrat Yantra (Small and large) Digamsa Yantra, Nadivalaya Yantra, Chakra Yantra and Dakshinottara Bhitti Yantra are the main instruments of this observatory. These are meant for calculating time, preparing lunar and solar calendar and studying the movements, distances, angles of inclination of the stars, planets and other heavenly bodies. Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh of Jaipur had organized major restoration work to Man Mandir Observatory in year 1912 with the help of his court astronomer Pandit Gokul Chand Bhavan as it had turned into ruins during the middle part of 19th century. Due to the efforts of Maharaja Sawai Singh even now these ancient astronomical instruments are well-preserved and provide an amazing insight into how much our forefathers knew even centuries ago. The exquisitely painted ceilings and palatial windows which double up as balconies are added attraction for the visitors who are delighted by the expansive views of the entire western and eastern banks of holy River Ganga that can be seen from the spacious terrace.
