Decided to take the family out for a hike at a nearby city park. This was my first attempt at any real editing. Used GoPro Hero5 Black and a couple of cell phone pictures to complete the video.

Theodore Roosevelt Area - John Nathan Spearing, CSA
In 1884 John Nathan Spearing, a machinist and shipbuilder from Clinton, Maine, and owner of a shipyard in Spearing Street in Jacksonville, purchased a 500 acre tract encompassing what is now Theodore Roosevelt Preserve. Spearing, a Confederate soldier stationed at Fort Caroline, eventually built the Spearing manor which the Browne family lived in until it was destroyed by fire in 1914.
John's brother, Warren, had a small cabin near the Indian trail on the bluff overlooking Saint John's Creek. A baby born to Warren was buried in an unmarked grave at this cabin site. The exact location was unknown. Warren later left on a cattle drive to Texas during the Spanish American War, never to return.
John Spearing died in 1879 leaving behind his pregnant widow, Margaret. Because the location was a day's trip by wagon from Jacksonville, Margaret decided to move back into town leaving the property in the care of the neighbors, the Brownes.
Although John was in Jacksonville when he died he wanted to be buried on the St. John's Bluff house site. His body was carried by the steam ship Volusia to the bluff at the Indian trail where his funeral was held.
Mignonette Spearing Carter, great granddaughter of John Nathan Spearing, with the assistance of the Daughters of the Confederacy, had a marker placed at the head of the grave in January 1962. The spot was chosen by Willie, who, in previous years had removed portions of the roots of a large cedar that had been at the head of the grave. Sometime in 1987 vandals removed the stone from the site and moved it a short distance. Because Willie would frequently use shell mound diggings for fill elsewhere the appearance of the area had changed so drastically that it was impossible to ascertain the original location of the headstone.
The property was sold to the Browne family by Margaret Spearing in 1884.

Jacksonville is a large city in northeastern Florida where the St. John’s River meets the Atlantic Ocean. A regional business center, it has many museums and cultural offerings. Swimming and surfing are popular at nearby barrier island beaches such as Jacksonville Beach and Neptune Beach. Championship golf courses in the area include Ponte Vedra Beach’s TPC Sawgrass, headquarters of the PGA Tour.
Jacksonville is situated on the Atlantic coast of northeast Florida. It is the most populous city in the of Florida measured by the number of residents. But Jacksonville covers an enormous area, and is in fact the largest city in area in the continental United States. The city has a large area, but also has a low density rate. The metropolitan area extends beyond Duval County into Nassau, St. Johns, Baker and Clay counties and has a population of more than 1.25 million people. The city's metropolitan population is not the largest in Florida, it is exceeded by the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area, Tampa, and Orlando metro areas.
Jacksonville is widely known as a hard-working, blue-collar city. While a substantial portion of Jacksonville's economy is supported by both of its large U.S. Navy bases (Naval Air Station Jacksonville and Naval Station Mayport), it is also a hotbed for the banking, logistics, insurance, and healthcare sectors. The downtown skyline, notable for its bridges of various styles and colors, spans along the St. Johns River with a pedestrian river walk located on each bank. Although the bulk of Jacksonville's population is suburban in nature and spread throughout Duval County, renewed development efforts are currently underway in the urban core along with preservation efforts in its historic districts. Jacksonville is nicknamed JAX, or 'The Bold City'
At a whopping 840 sq miles, Jacksonville is the largest city by area in the contiguous United States and the most populous in Florida. The city sprawls along three meandering rivers, with sweeping bridges and twinkling city lights reflected in the water. A glut of high-rises, corporate HQs and chain hotels can make 'Jax' feel a little soulless, but patient exploration yields some interesting streets, curious characters and a Southern-fried, friendly heart.
The city's museums and restored historic districts are worth a wander if you have the time, and the Five Points and San Marco neighborhoods are charming, walkable areas lined with bistros, boutiques and bars. The Jacksonville area beaches – a world unto themselves – are 30 to 50 minutes' drive from the city, depending on traffic and where you're coming from.

Ep. 148 - Charles (Chuck) Mund A Wild and Crazy Youth That Found His way After Joining The Navy
Charles (Chuck) Mund was born and raised in Southern Wisconsin.
At the age of 18 he decided to join the Navy and enlisted on April 19th, 2005.
After completing Boot-camp he was sent to Meridian, MS for AZ A-School. Soon after he checked on board to Fleet Readiness Center SE in Jacksonville, FL.
His second duty station was with the Tridents, Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron Three, working with the SH-60F and HH-60H Helicopters, deploying with the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) in 2008 for a 7-month Deployment.
While embarked he spent time on the USS San Antonio (LPD-17) performing Anti-Pirate operations in the Gulf of Aden.
After Deployment, HS-3 was decommissioned and became Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Nine in Norfolk, VA and embarked on the USS George Bush (CVN-77) doing multiple detachments working towards Carrier Qualifications.
He then transferred to the Chargers of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Two Six in Norfolk, VA and performed two separate 6-month tours of duty in Juffair, Bahrain.
After, he returned to Jacksonville, FL to Patrol Squadron Thirty where he became qualified Safe for Flight with the Boeing P-8 Poseidon and donned the uniform of the Chief Petty Officer.
He now resides in Bremerton, WA stationed on board the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) working in Production Control the AIMD Department. Chuck, Became a team member in the spring of 2018, as our Lead Custom apparel designer, hitting the ground at full speed, he creates truly one of a kind works of art specifically formulated fabric.
Understanding how the fabric takes the color and specializing in that one medium has enabled him to truly kill some amazing one of a kind works of art.

Huge military exercise could jam GPS for small planes flying in the Southeast, FAA says
Some pilots could be flying blind in airspace over the Southeast and Caribbean this month, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
A military training exercise attributed to “Carrier Strike Group 4” — part of the U.S. Navy — is expected to jam GPS signals and other navigation systems intermittently from Jan. 16 to 24, the FAA said in a flight advisory Monday.
“GPS testing… may result in unreliable or unavailable GPS signal,” the advisory states.
Navigation from as low as 50 feet above ground up to Flight Level 400 (around 40,000 feet) could be affected, according to an FAA map showing interference testing from a location off the Florida-Georgia coast.
Pilots can report any anomalies using this form.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a flight advisory starting Thursday for most of the Southeast and Caribbean, saying GPS interference testing by the military could knock out pilots’ signals. FAA
The government is required to conduct GPS testing “on occasion,” according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which coordinates with the FAA, U.S. Coast Guard and Department of Defense to plan such events.
“These training and testing activities can involve a number of aircraft, ships and/or other military equipment and up to hundreds of personnel,” the DHS website states.
They’re not easily canceled but can be put on hold for a “safety of life mission” where “GPS navigation is essential” — such as a medical evacuation flight or firefighting mission, according to the DHS.
This also isn’t the first interference test in the Southeast, according to the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. A similar interruption in February 2019 sparked concerns from the nonprofit over civil aviation safety.
Rune Duke, the nonprofit’s senior director of airspace, air traffic and aviation security, called the exercise last year “unacceptably widespread and potentially hazardous” at the time.
According to the AOPA, hundreds of reports involving aircraft interference have been recorded during these training exercises.
“We consider the risks to GA aircraft highly concerning,” the AOPA said.

Why A French Nuclear Attack Submarine 'Sunk' a U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier
How did such a tiny submarine kill a ship almost fifty times larger than itself? First of all, we don’t know the rules of engagement of the exercise. Were the Roosevelt’s escorts using all of their anti-submarine warfare sensors? Was there any prohibition or curb on their use, or were any of them declared inoperative for the purposes of the exercise? Second, it’s important to remember that “sunk” is in quotation marks for a reason. The French F17 torpedo has a 551 pound HBX-3 high explosive warhead. It can also only fire a salvo of four torpedoes at a time, due to having only four torpedo tubes. A 551 pound torpedo warhead would probably not sink a Ticonderoga or Burke-class escort, and though it would undoubtedly damage, it would definitely not sink a Nimitz-class supercarrier. Also, given a screen of four escort ships and Roosevelt’s onboard anti-submarine warfare helicopters, a single salvo of four torpedoes was all Saphir was going to get before it was forced to withdraw.
