Snow monkeys soak in hot springs of Japan
In winter Japanese macaques, also known as snow monkeys, warm up in natural hot springs. David Levene visits Japan's Jigokudani Monkey Park in Nagano, the only place in the wild where you can view the monkeys as they relax in the steaming water - while the monkey babies show more interest playing with tourists' camera equipment

Japanese Onsen Bath Experience: Hot Spring Paradise ★ ONLY in JAPAN
Grab your towel because it's time for an epic Japanese onsen bath adventure! We will explore 13 Onsen Towns, hopping from one to another as a bath tourist around Fukushima. Naked outside in the snow? It's part of the fun!
Japanese Onsen are natural hot springs and around them are amazing places where you can bathe in many different kinds of waters. Bath tourism to onsen towns has always been popular with Japanese but as more people come to Japan for a visit, more are visiting the onsen and there are hundreds of hot spring towns.
Onsen baths are loaded with minerals that are good for the body, making your skin silky soft. Most of the water in these areas seeps from the ground, the hot water being the reason why many towns exist at that particular spot, their history rooting in its water.
It's the one do not miss recommendations I have for any trip to Japan. Every onsen is different so in this episode, I visit 13 different onsen towns in Fukushima prefecture, most with history going back centuries.

Monkey spa! 90 monkeys relax in hot bath, Japan
Monkeys in the northern Japan have taken a warm bath during a bout of chilly weather.
Every winter, handlers at the Hakodate Tropical Botanical Garden fill a pool at its monkey park with hot water from a nearby spring.
On Tuesday (October 1), about 90 monkeys warmed up in the pool for the first time this season.

Follow our itinerary
Day one
Asahidake Onsen Yukomanso Ryokan.
How to go there:
From Shin Chitose station we took shinkansen to Sapporo (change train) and took another train straight to Asahikawa Station.
We had a lunch break and continue our journey to Asahidake Mountain.
They provide shuttle bus from 1430 Yen
Bus no 66 from bus stop 9
Please check your timing carefully as the frequency of the bus is low.
We booked from Agoda, cost around USD 359 for 3 person (dinner and breakfast included)
Day two
Daisetsuzan Asahidake Ropeway
From our ryokan is around 20 mins walk but luckily the ryokan manager is kind enough to send us with his car.
From the ropeway entrance we took the same shuttle bus back to Asahikawa station. We had a lunch stop there, and instead of taking the train we actually took the bus back to Sapporo station. It’s slightly longer but it’s cheaper. So if you have the time, definitely opt for bus instead.
We paid 2060 Yen per person. You can buy ticket at counter or pay straight to the driver.
First day at Otaru we stayed at Grand Park Otaru
We booked from Indonesian travel app : Traveloka
Cost around Rp. 2.100.000 = 148 USD per night for 3 person (breakfast included)
Day 3
Nikka Whisky Distillery
Entrance is Free. Closed at 5pm
THE RYOKAN WITH PRIVATE ONSEN
Otaru Asarigawa Onsen Kourakuen
We booked from Japanichan
Cost around 100.000 Yen/night for 3 people because ryokan tends to charge per person. Price includes private onsen, private in room dining, and breakfast.

Onsen [Day Hotspring Yukichichibu] (700yen) Rankoshi Hokkaido Japan 硫黄温泉 北海道蘭越 雪秩父 ニセコの近く
Because it is a sulfur hot spring, the scent of sulfur will be steady.
The hot water in the bath is white turbid.
There were two bathrooms in the bath and two bathtubs in the outdoor bath.
The bathtub was spacious so we could relax and take a bath.
It is an open-air bath surrounded by nature, it is very comfortable to take a bath in the nature.
When entering the daytime, it seems to be able to overlook Oyunuma to Chisenupuri.
When I went this time I went to the night so I was able to see a very beautiful starry sky.
It is recommended to go on a sunny evening day.
There was a resting place to use for the bath rise.
There is also a dining room and if you are hungry you can eat.
There are also shops in the facility, so you can also buy special products and souvenirs in Ranikoshi Town.
There was something called Rankoshi ice cream so I tried it this time.
The price was 200 yen.
If you have a JAF card, you get 50 yen discount if you have a card.
Because it was a rich and delicious ice cream, I think that it is good to start after having a break by eating cold ice cream as the bath rises.
The hot spring here is also very close to Niseko, so when you go to Niseko you go into a hot spring and there is also a place called Shinsen-numa, which is very beautiful, so I think that it is very pleasant to enter a hot spring after trekking.

Boiling Eggs at Japan's Oldest Hotspring - Yunomine Onsen | The Real Japan | HD
Boiling Eggs at Japan's Oldest Hotspring - Yunomine Onsen | The Real Japan | HD
Yunomine Onsen village, commonly referred to as Japan' s oldest spa, can be found nestled in the sacred mountains of Kumano in Wakayama Prefecture, Honshu.
The village was built on a natural hotspring where the waters are naturally heated up to 90 degrees.
High quantities of sulpher in the water creates myriad colours on the rocks. The sulpher also adds to the water's medicinal properties.
Along the riverside, just below the Yunomine Onsen bus stop, is the Yuzutsu basin. This can be used by the public to cook foods.
Boiling eggs in the bubbling water is a tradition. Fresh eggs can be purchased from a souvenir shop across the bridge from the basin. Plunging the cooked eggs into the cold running stream cools the eggs down ready for eating!
Sansai mountain vegetables and many other foods can be cooked in the water.
Yunomine village also forms part of two of the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes.

Japanese Ryokan, BBQ and Onsen in Norikura Kogen | Travelling with TIMMY Ep 4
On this trip I was invited to a BBQ Sleepover in the mountains.
We stayed at the Norikura Kogen Youth Hostel and Family Lodge, a Ryokan type accommodation.
The tatami matted floors, comfortable futons, relaxing onsen and delicious traditional Japanese meals is an experiemce you cannot forget.
If you are coming to visit or stay in Japan, highly recommend you make a plan to stay over at a Ryokan like this one.
It may cost a bit more than your average accommodation (Between ¥15,000 and ¥25, 000 per night), but if it's just for a night or two - it's totally worth the experience.
TIP: Depending where you stay, sometimes it's cheaper per person if you go with a group of friends or family.
Happy Sleepovers!!!
