Japanese Ryokan Tour - AMAZING PRIVATE ONSEN in Hakone, Japan | $708.16 Per Night!
Staying at this Japanese ryokan (traditional inn) was truly incredible!

JUNE 2017 -
Yoshiike Ryokan - I paid 77,760 Japanese Yen (at the time $708.16 USD) for 1 night for 2 adults, 1 baby. It was very expensive, but it was truly an amazing Japanese cultural experience and the food was incredible. There are cheaper Japanese ryokans you can stay at, but usually they have a public onsen (Japanese hot-spring bath), rather than a private.
Ever since taking my first trip to Japan a few years ago, I had really wanted to stay in a Japanese ryokan, which is a traditional inn, usually that is somewhere in the beautiful mountains, with a hotspring onsen bath, and delicious Japanese local food served in your room.
On my most recent trip to Tokyo, my wife and I took the train to Hakone, about 1.5 hours from Tokyo in the mountains, and decided to stay at a ryokan for 1 night. The experience was truly incredible and our room was amazing, including a private onsen bath and amazing Japanese gardens to view from the window.

One of the oldest hot spring in the group of hot springs called Hakone-Jushichiyu.
It consists of more than 70 kinds of hot spring sources. The color of hot spring water is transparent. There are a variety of Ryokan lodgings with hot-spring bath along Haya River and Sukumo River, which constructs a major Onsen town in Hakone. It has been a gateway of Hakone and there are a lot of souvenir shops and restaurants along the street. There are a lot of hot-spring bath facilities where you can easily make a day trip and sightseeing spots like Soun-ji Temple.

Yoshiike Ryokan - I paid 77,760 Japanese Yen (at the time $708.16 USD) for 1 night for 2 adults, 1 baby and booked it here: (Not Sponsored, but this is an affiliate link)
One of the greatest things about Japanese culture is the idea of minimalism, relaxation, nature, and food. And for a long time now, I’ve really wanted to experience a Japanese ryokan, a traditional inn, that typically includes an onsen (hot spring bath) and meals which are served in your room.
My wife and I were in Tokyo, and on a last spur of the moment decision, I found a ryokan not too far from Tokyo, in the mountains in a place called Hakone. We took the train to Hakone and checked into our ryokan for 1 night.
It was a bit more expensive than I had anticipated, but as I kept on searching, some ryokans were filling up, and then Ying and I really wanted to have the private onsen so I could film and make a video (in the public onsen room, which would be cheaper - I couldn’t film of course!). So we splurged, for the experience, Japanese culture, and the food.
The room was amazing, private onsen, amazing garden view, and traditional Japanese food. In the evening, they brought out multi-course Japanese kaiseki dinner. It included all sorts of regional Japanese food and some of the fanciest food I’ve ever had. Some dishes were good, others a little plain for my liking - but I really appreciated the quality and simplicity.
Staying at a traditional Japanese ryokan and eating luxury Japanese food was really an amazing relaxing and Japanese cultural experience.

Some of my favorite adventures I had during my 12-day trip to Japan were the ones I had just outside of Tokyo in the Yamanashi, Shizuoka, and Kanagawa Prefectures, and I want to share them with you in this guide to things you can do near Tokyo, Japan!
My Film Making Kit ►

This amusement park is known around the world for its fast and steep roller coasters, which are a blast to ride! It’s a fun outing for the whole family!
-La Vista Fuji Hotel & Spa – Yamanashi Prefecture
This stunning hotel, spa, and onsen boasts some of the most spectacular views of Mount Fuji in Japan, as well as a great breakfast buffet and mind-blowing late-night ramen!
-Ide Sake Brewery – Fuji Five Lakes Region, Yamanashi Prefecture
The pure, fruity sake at this incredible brewery is bolstered by the Mount Fuji spring water used in their sake production. Take part in a tour and a tasting to gain a deeper appreciation of sake brewing!
-Houtou Fudou – Fuji Five Lakes Region, Yamanashi Prefecture
This charming Samurai hot pot restaurant uses only high-quality ingredients, which can be tasted in every bite of their Houtou noodles. The serving sizes are very generous!
-Izunokuni Panorama Park – Mount Katsugari, Shizuoka Prefecture
After riding a gondola to the top of Mount Katsugari, take in the beautiful Sky Garden and stunning views of the surrounding countryside before stopping by the Katsuragi Hitokotonushi Buddhist shrine and the 100 statuettes of Jizo!

For true Japanese hospitality, stay at the Arai Ryokan Inn, which boasts extensive art collections, gorgeous traditional architecture, and a wide array of succulent seafood options!

-Owakundani Valley – Kanagawa Prefecture
At the volcanic Owakundani Valley, steam and hot gases issue from vents in the ground and pools of sulfuric water boil in the open air. Try an egg cooked in these pools; the shells turn black and are said will add 7 years to your life!
-Hakone Open-Air Museum – Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture
This fantastic open-air museum is home to over a thousand works of art by artists including Pablo Picasso. Check out their five exhibition halls, children’s areas, and more!

☆Bits of knowledge〜Bath〜
One of the most popular things to do at a ryokan is indulge in a hot bath, and ryokan often take great pride in their beautiful bathing facilities and spas. Usually the ryokan's baths are supplied by hot spring (onsen), although ryokan tend to have nice large baths even if they are not supplied by a hot spring. For more information on Japanese baths, see our page on how to take a bath.
Ryokan baths are usually gender segregated communal facilities with typically at least one indoor bath per gender. Many ryokan have a whole range of indoor and outdoor baths, sometimes found in separate locations across the ryokan. Occasionally there are some mixed gender baths as well.

Kusatsu Onsen: The Riverbed of the Underworld & Onsen Town Exploration
We're in Kusatsu Onsen again, one of the best onsen towns in Japan, in Gunma Prefecture to take a relaxing stroll through Sainokawara Park, and Sainokawara Street - two scenic spots in the onsen town.

0:51 Sainokawara Park (

SAINOKAWARA PARK (Riverbed of the West)
As you walk through Sainokawara Street, you will eventually come up to a large open park of the same name with a beautiful emerald green hot spring river running through it. Due to the (1) high acidity levels in the water and it's 50°C temperature, causes the soil to be unfertile and virtually impossible for plantation to flourish, and hence has earned the nickname of Riverbed of the Underworld, or Demon's Pond - park visitors were advised not to talk loudly to not wake up the demon. The Riverbed of the Underworld is the river before the Sanzu River (equivalent to the River Styx).
The legend goes that children that pass away before their parents do are transported to Sainokawara. The children stack rocks upon another - the first rock is for the father, the second the mother, the third for their hometown. If successful, the child will be able to enter Heaven. The only problem is, is that the demons like to come out and knock the stones down. You will notice little Jizō statues (Kshitigarbha; bodhisattva who looks after children, travellers and the underworld) placed around the park to ward off the demons.

Legend has it that storks used to bathe in the marshes of Kinosaki to heal their wounds. Later, bath houses were built over these very sites to capitalize on the healing waters. Since then Kinosaki has become one of the most popular onsen destination in the Kansai region.
Nowadays there are a number of ryokan in the area, all with their own baths equipped, but the real draw to Kinosaki are the seven public bath houses (sotoyu). Also some beautiful foot baths (ashiyu) and spring water drinking fountains are scattered throughout town.
