Thousand Islands
Recorded September 9-10, 2016
The Thousand Islands constitute an archipelago of 1,864 islands that straddle the Canada–US border in the Saint Lawrence River as it emerges from the northeast corner of Lake Ontario.
The video begins as I drive across the Thousand Islands Bridge to Hill Island, Ontario. On Hill Island I ascend the 400-foot high 1000 Islands Tower for a panoramic view of the area. Next I drive back across the Thousand Islands Bridge to Alexandria Bay, New York where I embark on a two nations boat tour with a stop at Boldt Castle. The video concludes as I check into the Riveredge Resort Hotel where I enjoy a spectacular sunset from my balcony overlooking the bay.

Driving Across The Thousand Islands Bridge from Canada into USA
The Thousand Islands International Bridge (French: Pont des Mille-îles) is an international bridge system over the Saint Lawrence River connecting northern New York in the United States with southeastern Ontario in Canada. Constructed in 1937, with additions in 1959, the bridges span the Canada–US border in the middle of the Thousand Islands region. All bridges in the system carry two lanes of traffic, one in each direction, with pedestrian sidewalks. The bridge is managed by an American company. The actual international border bridge crossing is a set of two parallel 90 ft (27 m) long bridges between Wellesley Island in the United States and Hill Island in Canada.
The southern end of the bridge connects with Interstate 81 and the northern end of the bridge connects to Highway 401 via Highway 137. There is also an interchange with the Thousand Islands Parkway on the Ontario side.
October 2014 Alexandria Bay, New York (Thousand Islands Tour)
This is some video from the Uncle Sams Boat Tour at Alexandria Bay, NY. I went to Alexandria Bay to attend the New York State Conference of Field Geologists, which was put on by St. Lawrence College. This boat tour took us into Canadian waters near Ganonoque, Ontario. Passports were not required since we did not exit the boat in Canada. It did seem to get colder on the Canadian Side.
A Trip to the Thousand Islands, NY for a day of Fun, Wine, and Boats.

Alexandria Bay, NY
This small town on the edge of the St. Lawrence river is a great stop on any roadtrip!
Not only does the main street offer good food and entertainment, but the many ferries and charter boats are ready to take you on expeditions around the 1000 lakes area.
The most obvious of these adventures is directly across the river, the Boldt Castle [be on the lookout for another video from us on that one specifically].
We found the Captain Thompson's Resort to not only be super convenient, but very clean, and affordable also. We would highly recommend staying at this nice location.

Croisières autour thousand island frontière entre US et CANADA
Boldt Castle is a major landmark and tourist attraction in the Thousand Islands region of the U.S. state of New York. It is located on Heart Island in theSaint Lawrence River. Heart Island is part of the Town of Alexandria, in Jefferson County. Originally a private mansion built by an American millionaire, it is today maintained by the Thousand Islands Bridge Authorityas a tourist attraction.
In 1900, George Boldt launched an ambitious construction campaign to build a huge masonry structure, one of the largest private homes in the United States. He engaged the architectural firm G. W. & W. D. Hewitt and hundreds of workers for a six-story castle as a present to his wife.
The construction of Boldt Castle ceased abruptly in early 1904 after the death of Boldt's wife, Louise Kehrer Boldt. Boldt never returned to Heart Island, leaving this structure as a monument of his love.
Fly over Boldt Castle in Alexandria Bay
Boldt Castle in the Thousand Islands region of the St. Lawrence River enjoys a rich history and a strong draw to Upstate New York. Built in 1900, the castle was a love gift by hotel builder George Boldt to his wife, Louise, who sadly died just before the summer home could be completed and stood empty for 70 years until the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority took it over to be a tourist attraction.

The Thousand Islands International Bridge (French: Pont des Mille-îles) is an American-maintained international bridge system over the Saint Lawrence River connecting northern New York in the United States with southeastern Ontario in Canada. Constructed in 1937, with additions in 1959, the bridges span the Canada–US border in the middle of the Thousand Islands region. All bridges in the system carry two lanes of traffic, one in each direction, with pedestrian sidewalks.
Thousand Islands International Bridge system is a series of five bridges[3] that span parts of the St. Lawrence River, ultimately connecting both banks. From south to north:
American mainland to Wellesley Island (main span[1])
Wellesley Island to Hill Island (international crossing)
Hill Island to Constance Island
Constance Island to Georgina Island
Georgina Island to Canadian mainland
The southern end of the bridge connects with Interstate 81 and the northern end of the bridge connects to Highway 401 via Highway 137. There is also an interchange with the Thousand Islands Parkway on the Ontario side.
The actual international border bridge crossing is a set of two parallel 90 ft (27 m) long bridges between Wellesley Island in the United States and Hill Island in Canada.
The Thousand Islands Border Crossing connects the towns of Alexandria Bay, New York and Ivy Lea, Ontario at the Thousand Islands Bridge.
The crossing is the westernmost of the three on the St. Lawrence River and is very busy, with up to two hours of waits during the summer.[8] The US border station of Alexandria Bay has sometimes been called Thousand Islands, and the Canada border station of Lansdowne has sometimes been called Gananoque, named for the nearby town where international ferry service has historically (and continues to be) provided. These border stations are also responsible for inspecting vessel traffic between the two countries. The US has seasonal vessel inspection stations on Heart Island and at Cape Vincent, NY, and Canada has seasonal vessel inspection stations at Rockport, Ontario and Gananoque, Ontario, and both Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will travel to selected ports and marinas to conduct inspections upon request.
