Views from Goat Island in Niagara Falls State Park
America's oldest state park, Niagara Falls State Park encompasses the whole of Goat Island, the piece of land that separates Horseshoe Falls from the American Falls.
Most visitors to the area will go to the Canadian side. However, as a Canadian, I believe that seeing the waterfalls from the New York side is a much better experience. The park is cleaner, less crowded and you can practically wash your hands in the waters at the crest of the main waterfall.
Included in this video are views from the often overlooked Three Sisters Islands. These are small chunks of land that sit off Goat Island in the rapid flow of the Niagara River, just above Niagara Falls.
Helicopter ????ride over Niagara Falls ???? from New York
My son and granddaughter went with me on the helicopter ride over the falls. Hubby decided it was best if he stayed on the ground and took some pics...hmm, lol... My son took the video and I took pics. My granddaughter was in the front seat with the pilot - she is only 8 and fearless!
The ride provided us the unique experience of viewing the Niagara and Horseshoe Falls from the lowest and closest point possible. We climbed above and around the Niagara and Horseshoe Falls. The tour included a view of the Rainbow Bridge, American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Horseshoe Falls, Goat Island, Cave of the Winds and the Maid of the Mist boats.
We were mesmerized by the wide sprawling Upper Niagara River descending towards the rushing rapids before it separates and surrounds Goat Island and the Three Sister Islands. (Goat Island and The Three Sister Islands are located in the Niagara Falls State Park, the oldest State park in the United States.) As the water continues downstream and cascades over the powerful Niagara and Horseshoe Falls, we saw a beautiful rainbow! This certainly was a once in a lifetime experience!!

Goat Island
Recorded June 24, 2012
Goat Island is a small island in the Niagara River, located in the middle of Niagara Falls between the Bridal Veil Falls and the Horseshoe Falls. The island is at the southwest corner of the City of Niagara Falls, New York. Goat Island has no residents, but is a popular destination for tourists visiting the falls on the U.S. side; it offers some of the most spectacular views available there, in particular at Terrapin Point. Niagra falls beautiful waterfall in the world
Niagara Falls is the collective name for three waterfalls that straddle the international border between the Canadian province of Ontario and the American state of New York. They form the southern end of the Niagara Gorge.
From largest to smallest, the three waterfalls are the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. The Horseshoe Falls lies on the border of the United States and Canada[1] with the American Falls entirely on the United States' side, separated by Goat Island. The smaller Bridal Veil Falls are also on the United States' side, separated from the American Falls by Luna Island.
Located on the Niagara River, which drains Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, the combined falls form the highest flow rate of any waterfall in North America that has a vertical drop of more than 50 metres (160 ft). During peak daytime tourist hours, more than 168,000 m3 (six million cubic feet) of water goes over the crest of the falls every minute.[2] Horseshoe Falls is the most powerful waterfall in North America, as measured by flow rate.[3]
The falls are 27 kilometres (17 mi) north-northwest of Buffalo, New York, and 121 kilometres (75 mi) south-southeast of Toronto, between the twin cities of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Niagara Falls, New York. Niagara Falls was formed when glaciers receded at the end of the Wisconsin glaciation (the last ice age), and water from the newly formed Great Lakes carved a path through the Niagara Escarpment en route to the Atlantic Ocean.
Niagara Falls is famed both for its beauty and as a valuable source of hydroelectric power. Balancing recreational, commercial, and industrial uses has been a challenge for the stewards of the falls since the 19th century
Niagra fall is the highest water fall in the world.
Niagara Falls have long been a source of inspiration for explorers, travelers, artists, authors, filmmakers, residents and visitors, few of whom realize the falls were nearly devoted solely to industrial and commercial use. In the 1870s, sightseers had limited access to Niagara Falls and often had to pay for a glimpse, and industrialization threatened to carve up Goat Island to further expand commercial development. Other industrial encroachments and lack of public access led to a conservation movement in the U.S. known as Free Niagara, led by such notables as Hudson River School artist Frederic Edwin Church, landscape designer Frederick Law Olmsted, and architect Henry Hobson Richardson. Church approached Lord Dufferin, governor-general of Canada, with a proposal for international discussions on the establishment of a public park.
An area 12,300 years in the making, Niagara Falls is a natural wonder unlike any other. The history of Niagara Falls goes back thousands of years, to the Ice Age, when large torrents of water were released from the melting ice, draining into what is now known as the Niagara River
Niagara Falls State Park is the oldest state park in the U.S. Established in 1885 as the Niagara Reservation, it was the first of several such reservations that eventually became the cornerstones to the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
Frederick Law Olmsted was a visionary for Niagara Falls State Park. He also designed Central Park in New York City.
Niagara Falls State Park stretches over 400 acres, with close to 140 acres of that under water.
Green Island, situated between Goat Island and the mainland, was named after Andrew Green, first president of the commission at the State Reservation at Niagara. He was a very prominent professional in New York City and was critical to the construction of Central Park, as well as the planning of northern Manhattan and today's Bronx. Green helped establish great cultural institutions, such as the Museum of Natural History®, Metropolitan Museum of Art®, and the Bronx Zoo®, and most importantly, led the Greater New York movement that joined the municipalities around Manhattan Island into today's 5-borough city.
Three Sisters Islands were named after the daughters of Parkhurst Whitney, a hotelman and prominent local citizen. The daughters names were Asenath, Angeline and Celinda Eliza.
A statue of Chief Clinton Rickard, who was the founder of the Indian Defense League in 1926, can be found near the Great Lakes Gardens in Niagara Falls State Park.
