Why Angkor Wat (Siem Reap) is a must see | CAMBODIA
Another one of our life bucket list stops the Angkor Wat temples in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Needless to say we had an absolutely incredible time visiting the Khmer Hindu and Buddhist temple ruins.
Things started off in Phnom Penh where we caught the Cambodia Post VIP Van for $11 USD each to get to Siem Reap. This is the site we booked our Cambodia Post VIP Van tickets from:
They have a variety of routes and departure times. We found Cambodia Post VIP Van to be a pretty cheap and convenient way getting from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, then using a tuk tuk for the remainder of our journey to get to our accommodation.
The ride from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap via Cambodia Post VIP Van took about 3 hours in total including a quick lunch stop and there were tuk tuks waiting around for us to get to our final destination (our Airbnb accommodation in Siem Reap) that ended up being just a few minutes drive away.
Our accommodation in Siem Reap was an urban studio located in the peaceful Kandal Village. The place was clean, stylish and comfortable. It's situated above Khmer 652 - a Cambodian restaurant that serves very delicious Khmer cuisine with super lovely staff. There are a handful of other cafes and restaurants nearby as well as local craft shops too.
Khmer 652 is owned by the Airbnb hosts so you also get a 10% discount for dining there. Our favourite meals during our time in Siem Reap were at Khmer 652 as well as Crane just at the back of their alley. We loved the location of our accommodation in Siem Reap because it's also in close walking distance to a supermarket, the river bank and the very lively Pub Street.
After a quick haircut and a browse around Kandal Village we got some rest before heading over to the Angkor Wat temple complex the next day. We opted to get a personal tour guide which turned out to be one of the best decisions ever.
Sarak was our tuk tuk driver and Angkor Wat travel guide, recommended to us from a fellow YouTuber friend. Sarak took us all around the amazing temples in the Angkor Wat temple complex, visiting the lesser-known and secret quiet areas (as well as the main temples too). He even took it upon himself to help us take some beautiful photos with our phone during our entire time together too. He was a driver, travel guide and photographer all in one!
Get in touch with Sarak:
meamsarak@gmail.com
+855 92 394 994
If you're wondering how to get to Angkor Wat, we definitely recommend going via tuk tuk with Sarak to enjoy the open air ride and if you want to go to the quieter spots like we did, simply let him know.
We bought a 3-day multi-pass to visit the Angkor Wat temple complex. First day we had Sarak and on our subsequent visits we had Mr Bean (Sarak's business partner) take us when we filmed Peter's Part 2 for his how to retire early series and on the final visit we went via Grab tuk tuk ourselves just to Angkor Wat. We were in Siem Reap visiting Angkor Wat during November. Btw, make sure to keep your Angkor Wat tickets with you as this gets checked at various entry points into the temple complex.
We visited the following temples:
- West Gate
- Angkor Thom
- Preah Khan
- Ta Prohm (also known as the Tomb Raider temple)
- Bayon (and then finally...)
- Angkor Wat
We also enjoyed a breath taking sunset away from the crowds at Srah Sang.

DON'T go to SUNRISE at ANGKOR WAT!
Location: Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Cambodia.
This morning we woke up at 4 a.m. to see the sunrise at Angkor Wat. It was OK... To be completely honest, I think there are much better ways to spend your morning exploring the Angkor Temple complex.
Sunrise at Angkor Wat is OVERRUN by tourist. Yes, we did contribute to the problem, but that's beside the point. When we showed up to Angkor Wat at 5 a.m. there were already TONS of people there. We weren't even able to get a seat on the far side of the pond. By the time the sun was rising, there were over 2,000 people watching the sunrise with us. The crowds were almost more impressive than the sunrise.
Don't get me wrong, the sunrise over Angkor Wat is beautiful, but so is everything else at the Angkor Temple complex. I would suggest getting up super early one day an visiting other temples besides Angkor Wat at around 6 a.m.. You could have the amazing temples to yourself while everyone else is fighting at Angkor Wat to snap the best picture of the sunrise.

Angkor Wat | Siem Reap, Cambodia
For today's travel tuesday, we're headed to Siem Reap, Cambodia to see Angkor Wat and Tonle Sap Lake! This video is a full guide on the temples at Angkor Wat and everything you can see in one day! I avoided the sunrise tour and still managed to miss all of the tourists - so here's proof that it is possible!
You'll see Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Terrace of the Leper King, Bayon temple, Ta Prohm and Terrace of the Elephants. I even do a day tour of Tonle Sap floating village where you can see the local fishing villages!
I got this tour from Borei Angkor Resort & Spa and it was super affordable and my guide was AMAZING. Would definitely recommend staying at this hotel on your next trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia.

1 Day in Siem Reap | Touring Angkor Wat
We had a flying trip to Cambodia. As we only had a day and a half in Siem Reap we managed to do 10 hours of temple hopping around the Temples of Angkor. The hotel helped us organise a tuk tuk driver who picked us up at 4.30am so that we could watch the sun rise over Angkor Watt and then he continued to show us around some incredible temples for the rest of the day.
Enjoy!
We stayed at himaboutique.com - a lovely hotel, with a pool, about a 15 minute walk away from the crazy bar street. There are lots of nice restaurants around it too.
Please leave us some comments and ask us any questions. We're always happy to help :)

Is ANGKOR WAT Worth Visiting? - Siem Reap Cambodia
Is Angkor Wat worth visiting? Let us show in an in depth look at Angkor Wat Temple in Siem Reap Cambodia so you can decide if it’s worth battling the crowds to see the biggest temple in the world. We also show you another temple in Siem Reap that is a great Angkor Wat alternative, Bantaey Srei. Welcome to Cambodia, DBV Fam!
During our short stay in Siem Reap, Cambodia, the one vlog we wanted to make was a temples of Angkor video. Of course, first up on our list was Angkor Wat. We were initially skeptical of visiting Angkor Wat due to the fact that over 2 million people visit this Khmer temple every year. We couldn’t stop wondering, is Angkor Wat worth visiting? We set out on a mission to let you guys know! When we arrived at the temple, we were pleasantly surprised that there were very few people there. One of our biggest tips to visiting Angkor Wat would be skip the sunrise and head to the temple around noon on a weekday. If you can handle the direct sunlight and heat, you will be rewarded with practically empty temple grounds just like us! Right as we were leaving around 2pm the crowds started flowing into Angkor Wat again right was we were leaving.
Angkor Wat is the biggest temple in the world and it is also known as the best temple in Siem Reap Cambodia. I don’t know if we can whole heartedly agree that it’s the “best” temple, but it certainly is the most famous of the Siem Reap temples. Although ticket prices are steep, $37 for a 1 day pass, the answer to the question is Angkor Wat worth visiting is yes. The temple is certainly worth seeing and the ticket price covers your admission to many other temples in Siem Reap throughout the Angkor Archaeological Park.
We were dead set on finding some temples other than Angkor Wat to show you guys, since it’s so heavily covered already on YouTube. We found the most beautiful little temple about an hours motorbike ride north of Angkor Wat called Bantaey Srei Temple. Bantaey Srei is a small temple made almost entirely out of pink sandstone which is a gorgeous color and a material suitable for easy carving. The intricate carvings are definitely the highlight of Bantaey Srei. We suggest heading there around golden hour, 3-5pm so you can see the amazing soft light illuminate the pink sandstone. This temple was not crowded when we got there at 4pm, however we did see tour buses leaving when we arrived. Overall, we recommend this as a good Angkor Wat alternative, however you won’t see the grand size of Angkor Wat Temple here. Overall, it’s best to couple Bantaey Srei with Angkor for a full Siem Reap temple experience.
If you have any questions about the history of Angkor Wat, tips for visiting Angkor Wat or anything regarding travel in general, please leave a comment down below! Unfortunately, this is our one and only Cambodia travel vlog as we were very tied up with work over the two weeks we stayed in Siem Reap Cambodia. However, we loved Cambodia so much we are already planning a trip to visit the southern islands. Although we didn’t film, we did a lot of other things during our stay so if you have any questions on what to do in Siem Reap please let us know. Until next time, seeya!

Phnom Penh Tourism - Interview with Tour Guide, Rorn Saroun at Cambodia Travel Mart 2019
What is the difference between the Central Market, Night Market and Russian Market in Phnom Penh, Cambodia? What can people buy at those markets? When do they open and close? Which is the most popular with tourists and What else is there to see and do in Phnom Penh?
In this interview, filmed on 12 October at the Cambodia Travel Mart 2019, Steven Howard of TravelNewsAsia.com asks Rorn Saroun, an English language tour guide in the Kingdom of Cambodia's capital city, to tell us more about Phnom Penh.
Rorn tells us where his customers are coming from, what tourists like to do in Phnom Penh, when the Royal Palace will reopen after its renovation, why he feels that visitors should go to the Killing Fields and how long is needed to visit that area properly.
We also discuss what else is becoming popular in Cambodia, such as rural tourism, street food tours, rice tourism, homestays and unique experiences like that.
Rorn tells us how many days he thinks that tourists should stay in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, what nightlife is available to travellers to the city, what the local rice whisky is all about, and he shares some of the funny / unusual requests that he has had as a tour guide. All that and much, much more - including Rorn's contact details if anyone wants to book a tour with him - in the HD video.
Artisans D'Angkor Tour and Phare Cambodian Circus in Siem Reap Cambodia with Club Adventures
Our visit to Artisans DAngkor was a pleasant surprise. Not on our itinerary, we asked to be taken somewhere to do a bit of shopping. Instead of taking us to a generic souvenir spot, our guide brought us here. Authentic, local, and inexpensive. Highly recommended. We also got a chance to check out the Phare Cambodia Circus which was an experience to remember.
Club Adventures is a small group travel company powered by AAA. They believe in creating unscripted travel moments and utilize local guides to give each tour a local perspective. Here is the tour that I did if you want to check it out!:

24 Hours In Cambodia | Private Sunrise Tour $110- WORTH IT?
Since I went to Siem Reap alone, I got a private guide and driver. Let's get this out of the way first, How much did it cost? It cost me $110 USD , for a 10 hour experience. Now the cost would be reduced by almost half if you were with a friend, and a third if you with another, and so on, and so forth. I felt this was the best choice for me, to get the full experience, be able to video and speak freely, and move about in as little or as much time as I wanted. Plus, he took some really awesome photos for me! The entrance fee is $20 (£15) to $37 (£28) for a one-day pass, a three-day pass from $40 (£31) to $62 (£48) and a seven-day ticket from $60 (£46) to $72 (£55)
The visa system was extremely efficient. Don't forget to bring a photo, but if you do, they have people who can photograph you at an inexpensive cost, but it'll take time. For me, I had a photo with me and filled out the visa form in line- it took me about 10 minutes.
That evening, I went to the market to buy some clothes that will cover my knees and shoulders. The temples have a strictly enforced, no exposed body parts, rule.
The first temple I went to, is Angkor Wat and I went at 5am for sunrise. I enjoyed the whole experience, albeit tiring.
I just wanted to say, at about 4:50, the statue isn't a hindu statue but rather a buddhist statue with a buddhist robe, but an example of one is in 6:40 (Hindu God Vishnu with a Buddhist robe). To get the full effect of the echo room: listen with headphones- the reverb is seriously cool!
The second temple I went to is Phnom Bakheng Temple. It has 5 tiers and overlooks Angkor Wat. The third temple is called Bayon Temple- a temple known for the many heads that face in all directions. It's really magnificent there.
Ta Keo Temple is fourth- beautiful too- lots to steps though. But what really stood out to me about this temple is kindness. I joined some locals for beers ($1USD), and there was a chance you'd win another beer with the beer (it was one of those, lift the top of the can, kind of contest/games). I bought a round ($6USD) and won a free beer too. It's ridiculous, a drink in Canada is about $10...
The fifth and last temple is Ta Prohm Temple- tomb raider temple had a lot of really interesting tree growth. By this time, I was sooooo tired. So it was nice to end the tour with a Hollywood film location :)
That evening, I took the tuk tuk (the motorcycle buggies) to the circus (Phare). For $18 USD, I'd recommend it. It's interesting, teaches you a bit about culture, it gives you a chance to support local artists.

Hi Guys,
In this video, I have explored the world famous Angkor Temple Province which includes the country's well know Angkor Wat Temple.
So, I booked this tour from my hostel i.e Funky Flashpacker itself for cost of 13$ which included Tour guide, AC Mini-Van, unlimited water bottles(Rare in cambodia) and lots of memories :) Also, apart from the tour fee we need to buy 37$ ticket for a day visit to Angkor temple's. If you are going with your family, below is the Tour Guide details which is the best atleast for me:-

Angkor TK Travel & Tours, Siem Reap, Cambodia
Dating back to 1990, a group of partners started their business with a restaurant in Phnom Penh which served a high end international buffet. Unbelievably, in a small, unknown country, the business ran well creating the demand to open 3 more restaurants in Siem Reap.
Following a long period of conflict, an increasing level of stability began to make travel within Cambodia more acceptable worldwide. Nonetheless, the fascinating world heritage site Angkor Wat itself and other surrounding temples attract a huge number of visitors to Cambodia every year.
Established in 2001 by the same group of business partners, Angkor T.K. Travel & Tours (ATK) started as a local tour operator. With a small number of staff, it was a tough trial period. Through the years, we have gained a lot of experience in the Tourism of Cambodia. Growing from a tiny office space to an individual office building. Due to our success the business keeps expanding as the number of partners and clients has increased worldwide.
We have been serving our business partners and customers as a local tour expert for several years. Consequently, many worldwide leading companies (both private & public) rely on us in taking care of their groups or even their VIP guests year by year. Until 2005, it has been our pride at receiving the great opportunity of being a local representative in handling the ground operation for World Class Cruise Line Companies. Increasing from small numbers of cruise ships at the beginning to handling the responsibility of 10 ships a year. They are MS DEUTSCHLAND, MS NAUTICA, SILVER SHADOW, SILVER WHISPER, QUEEN MARY II, QUEEN ELIZABETH II, QUEEN VICTORIA, CRYSTAL SYMPHONY, CRYSTAL SERENITY, SAPPHIRE PRINCESS, PACIFIC PRINCESS, TAHITIAN PRINCESS, ROYAL PRINCESS, SUN PRINCESS, DIAMOND PRINCESS, ARCADIA and ORIANA CRUISE
In April 2008, we were honored by the reward from The Ministry of Tourism (MOT) and the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents (CATA) on the occasion of the Cambodias Achievement of 2 Million International Visitors in 2007. This reward bestowed us with recognition of our outstanding contribution to promoting Tourism in Cambodia.
Like any company we always advertise and promote ourselves to the public, but around 80% of our business now comes from our business partners and most importantly word of mouth. At the heart of everything we do, we pride ourselves in creating the best possible tailor-made itineraries, providing excellent services for our clients and doing everything we can, to ensure they are so happy with their trip that they recommend us to their friends and family.
