Tianjin Museum - 天津历史博物馆
Tianjin Museum is the largest museum in Tianjin, China, exhibiting a range of cultural and historical relics significant to Tianjin. The museum lies in Yinhe Plaza in the Hexi District of Tianjin and covers an area of about 50,000 sq meters. The unique architectural style of the museum, whose appearance resembles that of a swan spreading its wings, has meant that it is quickly becoming one of the city' iconic buildings. It is built to be a large modern spot for the collection, protection and research of historic relics as well as a place for education, leisure and touring.
The Tianjin Museum has an extensive collection of ancient Chinese fine arts and exhibits on Tianjin's history. There are nearly 200,000 collections of valuable historical and cultural art and relics, including calligraphy, paintings, bronze ware, ceramics, jade ware, seals, ink stone, Jiagu (bones or tortoise shells with inscriptions of the Shang Dynasty), coins, historic documents and relics of modern times, local folk art and so on, among which there are nearly 1000 first-class cultural relics. Tianjin Museum enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad by large variety and good quality.. Periodic exhibitions will be held by turns.
Tianjin Museum covers an area of 30 square km with 3layers, shaped like a flying swam, is the biggest comprehensive museum in Tianjing, and gathers both historical and artistic precious collections. The Tianjin Museum is a three-storeyed building. The building of the Tianjin Museum is a product of the cooperation between China and Japan. From the designing schemes put forward by twelve designing institutes, both domestic and foreign, the related specialists have finally chosen the scheme put forward by a Japanese designing office and the Swan comes out of its egg. From the hall on the ground floor, you can get to the top floor, the Historical Exhibition Hall, directly by the staircase. You can not only enjoy the rare historical collections but also enjoy the sunshine coming from the feather-shaped skylight in the dome. In a word, it offers epoch-making beautiful scenery that can be compared favorably with the Sydney Opera House.
As the symbolic cultural installation of the city, Tianjin Museum plays a very important role in collecting, protecting, study and exhibition. Staff of Tianjin Museum will wholeheartedly give different exhibition of fine works for people all over the world. If you want to know more about China culture, Tianjin Museum can not be missed on you itinerary in the city, for it is not a place to continue Tianjin’s local history, but also an art palace to show the Chinese civilization.

You Can Climb A 'Book Mountain' In This Gigantic Library In China
This library is a book lover's dream come true.
The Tianjin Binhai Library, Tianjin, China.
33,700 square meters. Five levels. Enough shelf space for 1.2 million books.
It was completed by Dutch architecture firm MVRDV and local architects from the Tianjin Urban Planning and Design Institute.
It's nicknamed The Eye.
The angles and curves are meant to stimulate different uses of the space, such as reading, walking, meeting and discussing. Together they form the 'eye' of the building: to see and be seen. - Winy Maas, Co-founder of MVRDV
There's a giant globe in the center of the library. It has an auditorium hidden inside.
The climbable shelving acts as a book mountain.
But there's a catch...
Not all of the books are real.
You can find a lot of books in other reading spaces beyond the main atrium space. There are sections geared for children and education.
The library has become a tourist hot spot since opening in 2017. It begs for the perfect Instagram photo.

Tianjin Haihe River 9-4-2016
Tianjin Haihe River
Haihe River is considered the 'mother river' of Tianjin. It passes through the city with great glamour and attraction. Beautiful parks and grand buildings have been developed on both the banks of the river which give Tianjin a magnificent look. Tianjin River Bund and Ancient Culture Street Pier alongside the river add to the beauty and charm of the city and make it a mesmerizing destination.

One of two walkways between enormous shopping malls, Tianjin China
My goal was to capture how large an amount of space was taken up by, effectively, one shopping centre (of many in the city). To a Canadian from the prairies, this is hard to envision.
