The East Side Gallery is the longest remaining strip of the of the former dividing wall between East and West Berlin. Today the 1.3 kilometer long wall stands as a memorial to freedom and it is covered in art and graffiti. Right now we're visiting Brandenburg Gate. This gate dates back to the 18th Century. We're here at Tiergarten, one of the biggest parks in the city. MauerPark is a hipster hangout. If you head over to the Bear Pit you can catch some karaoke and musical performances. If you want to spot some cool street art, then head over to Friedrichshain. You can't come to Berlin and not eat a Currywurst! This is the city's most popular fast food snack. The sausage is served with a ketchup and curry powder concoction. Up next we're at the Reichstag building which has a pretty cool glass dome on top. This dome is actually open to visitors and it offers 360 degree views of the city. Today we're visiting Tempelhof, a re-purposed airport here in Berlin for leisure activities and sports. If you enjoy museums and art galleries you'll want to visit Berlin's Museum Island. They actually have five different museums here and if you get a daily pass for 18 Euros you get access to all five. We are now visiting the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin. It is also known as the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. Charlottenburg Palace is the largest palace in Berlin and the only surviving royal residence in the city. Checkpoint Charlie was one of the crossing points between East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War. Located near Alexanderplatz, The Berlin TV Tower offers a great lookout over the city. Chocolate! Ritter Sport is a chocolate brand that is sold all over Germany, and while in Berlin we couldn't resist sampling a few of the different varieties. Berlin Cathedral is located on Museum Island and it's one of the most beautiful churches in the city. If Currywurst is to your liking, you'll want to check out this quirky museum devoted to Berlin's favorite sausage. Renting a bike is a great way to get around the city. Most places will rent out bikes at 10 Euros per day. For a leisurely afternoon, hop on a boat and enjoy a tour down the River Spree. Of course, you cannot come to Berlin and not eat a Wurst or a sausage. The Friedrichshain flea market takes place every Sunday and it's a great place for people watching and a little browsing. The Germans sure know how to enjoy a hearty breakfast, and we recommend you try it too.
We couldn't resist visiting yet another cat cafe while we were in Berlin.
While in Berlin we enjoyed a hearty meal of Schnitzel. It's quite easy to get around Berlin using the U-bahn and S-bahn system. In Berlin, there is a big Turkish population and that means there is awesome Turkish street food. And that's Berlin for you! A city that has risen from the ashes of the war, which is now bursting with art, music, and life.
Have you been to Berlin? We'd love to hear your favourite things about the city in the comments below.

Strasse des 17. Juni - In A Berlin Minute (Week 133)
RE-PUBLISHED (original date: November 15, 2012 ) -- --
Strasse des 17. Juni (17th of June Street) is a large avenue through the heart of Berlin.
It starts in the East at the Brandenburger Tor (Brandenburg Gate), runs through Tiergarten (animal park), passing the Sowjetisches Ehrenmal (Soviet War Memorial), circling around the Siegessaeule aka Goldelse (Victory Column), going under the Tiergarten S-Bahn train station, crossing over the Charlottenburger Tor (Charlottenburg Gate), cutting through the campus of Technische Universitaet (Technical University), where I once studied Psychology for 2 days before I dropped out to move to America and study film, and ends at Ernst-Reuter-Platz.
East of Brandenburger Tor the street is called Unter den Linden, west of Ernst-Reuter-Platz it is called Bismarckstrasse.
The street was named after the workers' uprising in East Germany on June 17th, 1953.
The music is a slightly sped up instrumental version of the song Hell Came For Breakfast by Jason Matherne. Check out his music on Soundcloud (free downloads):

STORYLINE:
A German family spoke of their excitement on Thursday as they headed to Berlin''s Olympic Stadium to attend mass given by Pope Benedict XVI on the opening day of his first state visit to his homeland.
Gerlinde, Dieter and Ulrike left home with their children Max, Till and Lara in the afternoon ahead of the evening open-air service in Berlin''s Olympic Stadium. They said they were excited to be part of the many thousands of Catholics expected to attend.
Gerlinde, who was accompanied by her husband Dieter and son Max, said she felt happiness and tension ahead of the mass.
Her sister, Ulrike, brought her children Lara and Till from their home in Muelheim an der Ruhr to her sister''s family home in Berlin on Thursday. Together, they set off on the metro to the Olympic Stadium to attend the service.
Ulrike attended the last pope John Paul II''s mass in Cologne when she was 17, which she described as better than a rock concert.
The Pope began the first state visit to his homeland on Thursday, seeking to stem the tide of Catholics leaving the church while acknowledging the damage caused by the clerical sex abuse scandal.
The Bavarian-born pontiff was met on a red carpet at Berlin''s Tegel airport by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Christian Wulff at the start of his four-day visit.
Later on, he visited the presidential palace, Bellevue, and then addressed Germany''s parliament from the historic Reichstag building.
There were scattered protests outside and a boycott by some lawmakers.
The mass at the Olympic stadium in Berlin on Thursday evening will be one of the highlights of his visit to Germany. More than 250-thousand people are registered to attend his Masses throughout his trip.
Benedict was not expected to meet with German Roman Catholic dissidents, who have called for allowing women priests and ending mandatory celibacy for priests.
He will travel on to Erfurt on Friday and later to Freiburg.

May 2013 - Strasse des 17. Juni Berlin HD
Straße des 17. Juni
Looking east from the S-Bahn-Station Tiergarten along the Straße des 17. Juni, with the Victory Column in the distance.
The Straße des 17. Juni (German pronunciation: [ˈʃtʁaːsə dɛs ˈziːpˌtseːntən ˈjuːniː], English: 17th of June Street) is a street in central Berlin, the capital of Germany. It is the western continuation of the Unter den Linden. It runs east-west through the Tiergarten, a large park to the west of the city centre. At the eastern end of the street is the Brandenburg Gate, it then passes the Soviet War Memorial before passing either side of Victory Column (Siegessäule) in the middle of the park, and out of the park through the Charlottenburg Gate, terminating about half a kilometre later at Ernst-Reuter-Platz. The street is a section of the main western thoroughfare radiating out from the centre of Berlin so the road continues to the west of Ernst-Reuter-Platz the first section of which is called Bismarkstrasse.
Before 1953, the street was called Charlottenburger Chaussee, because it ran from the old city center (Berlin-Mitte) to the borough of Charlottenburg through the Tiergarten (Animal garden).
It was made into a paved road in 1799, and owing to Berlin's rapid growth in the 19th century it became a major thoroughfare to the affluent western suburbs. At the outbreak of World War One in early August 1914, hundreds of thousands of Berliners cheered the military parade, which took place here[1] At the outbreak of World War Two, no such scenes were seen, according to the American journalist and historian William L. Shirer,[2] but after Adolf Hitler returned from his inspection of Paris in 1940, a huge victory parade was held.
Charlottenburger Chausee was a part of the Ost-West-Achse (East-West Axis), which during the Nazis became a triumphal avenue lined with Nazi flags. During the Nazi era, the boulevard was made broader and the old Prussian Victory Column was moved from in front of the Reichstag to the roundabout in the middle of the Tiergarten, where it has remained since 1938. In the last weeks of World War II, when Berlin's airports were unusable, it was used as a landing strip.
In 1953, the street was renamed Straße des 17. Juni, to commemorate the uprising of the East Berliner workers on 17 June 1953, when the Red Army and GDR Volkspolizei shot protesting workers.
The street has in recent years been used for mega-events such as Love parade or live8. In 2006, the street was closed for six weeks to use it as Fanmeile (fan mile) during the 2006 Football World Cup. It also serves as the starting point for the Berlin Marathon. Every New Year's Eve, the street is also one of the gathering points in Berlin where usually over a million people gather to watch a stage show at the Brandenburg Gate, party and see fireworks go off at midnight. It is the largest such party in Europe, if not the world

Mauerpark - In A Berlin Minute (Week 276)
- The Mauerpark (Wall Park) in Berlin, Germany, is the place to be on a Sunday - if you like people watching, flea market shopping, outdoor drinking, street musicians, street art, karaoke and hanging out with your friends. Well, I do!
So when Scott and I were in Berlin during week 275, we met a few of our local friends in the park - even those who have no love for Sundays at Mauerpark. A big thanks to everyone who came out to hang with us that day and night and during our brief fly-by Berlin visit. I love you all so much!
For those of you who follow other travel blogs from Berlin, you might recognize Nicole of and Cheryl of If you don't know them yet, go check out their awesome travel reports and photographs!
Mauerpark is located (just steps from my apartment) in the Prenzlauer Berg district. Its name derives from the fact that it used to be part of the Berlin Wall death zone (then on the border or East Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg and West Berlin's Wedding). Today it has two bars that serve food and drinks (Mauersegler and Schoenwetter), an outdoor amphitheater that hosts the Bearpit Karaoke and semi-permanent stalls that house the Mauerpark Flohmarkt - both only on Sundays.
If you would like to see another Mauerpark video, please watch the one I did about the flea market in 2010: Mauerpark Flea Market – In A Berlin Minute (Week 17)
And for another video from Prenzlauer Berg: Prenzlauer Berg – In A Berlin Minute (Week 162)
