Life of a Ranger at Titchfield Haven National Nature Reserve
This Out & About episode is the first part of a series based on the Titchfield Haven National Nature Reserve in Hampshire. In this episode we speak to Susan Spiteri who is a ranger at the nature reserve.
Covering 369 acres of the Meon Valley, the Reserve has a diverse ecosystem. Home to a vast array of wildlife with over 200 bird species recorded at the Haven, it attracts thousands of visitors and bird watchers. It was formed following an ambitious project to close up the Titchfield Estuary by the 3rd Earl of Southampton in the 16th Century.

All the photographs were taken at my local bird reserve Titchfield Haven which is on the south coast in Hampshire. The majority of the photos were taken from a hide. The cameras used were Canon's 7D & 7D mk 2. The lens were Canon's 500mm f4 L IS with a Canon 1.4x mk 3. Also Canon's 100-400mm L f4.5-5.6 IS

Follow me on Twitter @MrJohnHarrison Avocet filmed at Titchfield Haven Nature Reserve on Thursday 28th May 2015. I had a wonderful afternoon early evening there. Please bare in mind when watching the video it was an extremely windy day that slightly turned overcast. In fact it was so windy that afternoon I struggled outside at times to keep still even with a tripod. I uploaded the video as I'd never seen an Avocet before. The footage is good enough but my camcorder did struglle to keep focus at a couple of moments. I will go back another time for sure. I also see Lapwing and the reater Yellowlegs (but that was too far waway to share the video). First part of the video is an Avocet adult filmed from the Spurgin Hide and the second part has an adult and two Avocet chicks which was filmed from the Pumfrett Hide.
