FOCUS ON THE TIVVY BUMPER – EX-GWR COLLETT 14XX CLASS No. 1442
The Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life is a most worthwhile visit where you can see so many historical exhibits although the ex-GWR Collett 14xx Class 0-4-2T, No. 1442 is the largest and a most impressionable static exhibit as you can enter the cab and operate some sound effects. The video was recorded on the 11th May 2019.
Mid Devon Show 2011
FROM marsupials to alpacas, there were plenty of unusual sights to behold at this year's Mid Devon Show.
The marsupials were actually the Kangaroo gymnastic display team who were one of the highlights in the main ring.
Their acrobatic antics were matched by the Rockin' Horse Stunt Display Team who returned to the showring for the first time since 2008, although this time on horseback.
Farms for City Children school manager Catherine Knight said the charity was delighted to have been selected by the show's committee as this year's charity and hoped it would raise their profile in the area.
Due to security concerns, show president Her Royal Highness Princess Noora of Bahrain was unable to attend the show, but her daughter did make it to Hartnoll Farm. Deputy mayor of Tiverton Cllr Tom Lindus and former town councillor Karen Abbot got to meet the show president's daughter and tour the showground in her company.
The youth tent, which just a few weeks ago, was in danger of folding, had been pulled together at short notice through the efforts of Tiverton High School and the Exe Valley Rotary Club and despite a few technical glitches was a resounding success.
Produce grown and sourced from across Mid Devon and beyond proved too much to resist for the thousands of show-goers at Hartnoll Farm, Tiverton, on Saturday.
The sun shone on the Mid Devon Show which boasted mouth-watering dishes and drinks made by dozens of the very best producers the South West has to offer.
There were also plenty of animals on display from cows, sheep, chicken and ducks. Some of the best livestock from across the region were awarded prizes and farmers were left celebrating their success.
Make sure to see the video for the highlights of the 2011 Mid Devon Show!

Tiverton Red Pant Mile for Comic Relief 2011
FANCY wigs, noses, and topless torsos were on display around Tiverton on Friday as the second Red Pant Mile took place.
Starting from the Pannier Market, 92 runners did something funny for money by running a mile route finishing in Fore Street.
Donations are still being counted, but organisers say they're looking in the region of £2,500, with young and old taking part.
The event was organised by Ken White Signs duo Ben and Simon White. Ben said: It went really well. I'd like to thank everyone for their support.
The race was started by Tiverton's mayor Lester Crocker also donned a red wig and red nose. Cllr Crocker said: At the start the children just couldn't wait to get going. Before I could blow the horn to being the race, they all started to run.
Race winner David Rawlings, 13, said he would celebrate victory with chips in the evening. He said: It's fantastic to have won. If you want to win you have to keep on trying if you're getting worn out.
The One Show at Tiverton St Peter's Church
TIVERTON'S St Peter's Church will be the second most seen church on the Royal Wedding Day.
While billions are expected to watch the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton on television on Friday, April 29, millions across the UK will see the fine Norman church on their TV screens that same evening when it features on BBC1's The One Show.
The magazine programme's roving Royal reporter Gyles Brandreth visited St Peter's last week to film a four and a half minute segment about the origins of one of the best known rituals of the wedding service.
It was at St Peter's Church that Felix Mendelssohn's Wedding March was first used at a marriage service, more than 150 years ago.
Although the piece of music did not become popular at weddings until it was selected by Princess Victoria in 1858, it had first been used in Tiverton 11 years earlier.
Mr Brandreth had a go at playing the famous tune on the church's organ and saw the ecclesiastical register which showed the details of the marriage of a Dorothy Carew and Tom Daniel on June 2, 1847, at which the music was first played.
During his visit to Tiverton last Thursday (April 7), Mr Brandreth spent several hours in the church interviewing organist Andrew Curtis, rector the Rev Robert Gordon and churchwarden Chris Palmer.
During a break in filming, Mr Brandreth described St Peter's as one of the most beautiful churches I have ever been to.
He told the Gazette he had enjoyed his visit.
We have had a wonderful Tiverton welcome, the sun has shone, he said.
Here in Tiverton, you are certainly spoilt for churches with 14 in the town. The only thing I am wondering with all the filming we have to do is if we will have time to enjoy a Tiverton cream tea?
The former MP and author is currently filming a number of Royal wedding themed segments for inclusion on the show.
Mr Brandreth said he would be in London on the day of the ceremony itself waving my Union Jack and reporting the excitement to the studio.
To make sure you don't miss Tiverton's spell in the spotlight tune into The One Show at 7pm on Friday, April 29.

The Proclamation of the Fayre - June 2015
PUPILS scrambled for pennies in the age old proclamation of the fayre tradition in Tiverton yesterday (Thursday, June 25).
The bi-annual event sees members of the Town Council, led by the mayor, throwing 2p pieces to primary school children.
Pupils from Castle, Wilcombe and Tidcombe all took part in the tradition this time around. The pennies and proclamation was read by beadle Alan Burnett.
Mayor of Tiverton, Councillor Dennis Knowles said: “I think the event has got a bit more popular in the last couple of years, it tailed off a little bit before that.
“When I was mayor last time we always got a good turn out and when I was a schoolboy I use to scramble for pennies myself. If you didn’t go back with grazed knees or stamped on fingers then you hadn’t been to penny throwing.
“I hope it’ll be one of the traditions that will carry on long after I’m not here.”
Former mayor and recently re-elected town councillor Cllr Tom Lindus also had some handy advice for the mayor before the event.
“Don’t swear Mr Mayor, don’t swear,” he said.
Town Clerk John Vanderwoolfe was quick to add: “We had a mayor do that!”
Lew's News Extra - The Cosmos - A Beginner's Guide by Adam Hart-Davis
The Cosmos - A Beginner's Guide by Adam Hart-Davis.
Adam Hart-Davis was at the Tiverton & Mid Devon Astronomy Society on Friday 11 May 2012.
The evnt was hosted by at Blundell's Prep School and all tickets sold out.
In the first half of the talk Adam shared his experience with the audience on making a recent television series and talked about his travels across the globe.
He also asks the question 'are we alone?' and explains his and other people's ideas on exterterrestrial life in our galaxy and beyond!
The second half is a question and answer session with members of the Astronomy Society where all sorts of subjects are brought up.
SCIENTIST and broadcasted Adam Hart-Davis gave a talk to budding stargazers in Tiverton last week.
Adam, 68, who is famous for fronting BBC shows such as What the Romans Did for Us and TV advertisements for HM Revenue & Customs was guest speaker at the Tiverton & Mid Devon Astronomy Society's (TAMDAS) meeting on Friday 11 May.
Hart-Davis gave a talk based on his experiences filming the television documentary series The Cosmos -- A Beginner's Guide.
After a question and answer session with TAMDAS Adam said: I've enjoyed a good cup of tea, and I hope people go away with a sense that life doesn't have to be too serious.
I don't take anything too seriously least of all myself. You'll notice I made jokes most of the time and didn't say anything sensible.
It's been lovely coming to Tiverton. I've never been here before so it's a big treat and a pleasure for me.
TAMDAS chairman Douglas Rice added: I thought it was a most entertaining evening I thought he dealt with the subjects with a great deal of lucidity and humour making the difficult things very accessible.
He gave one a sense of the hugeness of the scientific projects that are needed to find out the answers to the questions that baffle us and altogether it was a very mind stretching experience.
The event is also being held as part of May's Tivvy Fest line up and was open to other members of the public to attend. Programme Co-ordinator Carol Boote said: We sold out and he was very entertaining with good broad scientific content.
The event has shown what Tiverton can do to provide low cost but high quality entertainment.
