Тобо́льск — город в Тюменской области. Административный центр Городского округа город Тобольск. Ранее административный центр Тобольского района, Тобольского округа, Тобольского уезда. После муниципальной реформы на городской территории находится лишь администрация соседнего муниципалитета.
Расположен на юге Тюменской области, в месте впадения реки Тобол в Иртыш.
Основан в 1587 году как центр освоения Сибири. В 1590 году Тобольск первым в Сибири получил статус города. С конца XVI до XVIII века — главный военный, административный, политический и церковный центр Сибири. С 1708 года — город, центр Сибирской губернии, простиравшейся от Урала до Тихого океана. В XIX веке в связи с перемещением торговых путей, а затем строительством железной дороги (в стороне от города) экономическое значение Тобольска упало. В настоящее время Тобольск является важнейшим центром познавательного туризма в Сибири и крупным промышленным центром страны в области газохимии. Население — 98 162[1] чел. (2015).
